Chapter 13: New Revelations

"Kalpi... I really need to know..." Raghav said for the umpteenth time. He was really following her around these days, bugging her with that one question.

"Raghav, I told you earlier, I can't tell you! And you agreed then - " Kalpi tried reasoning with him.

"I agreed on the condition that you will not worry about it..."

"I'm not - "

"I can see that you are..."

Kalpana turned away and busied herself with some files. She tried to change the topic.

"Don't worry about me... I'm okay... let's concentrate on work for now."

Raghav raised his eyebrows. "Really? You think I can concentrate on work at the moment? When I see that you are worried about something, and I don't even know what it is!"

"Raghav I told you, no need to worry about me..." Kalpi said, a bit annoyed, "You should concentrate more on Pakhi, and not me... you are running after me sensing my worry, but what about Pakhi? Have you ever thought that she might feel uneasy because of the time we spend together?"

Raghav looked at her in a state of utter confusion. "What are you talking about?"

"I'm talking about you and Pakhi..." Kalpana said, frustrated and confused at the same time due to his behaviour. "And I'm saying you should give her some time and attention!"

Raghav stared at her with a blank expression, "And why would I do that?"

"Is this some kind of joke?"

"No, I really don't understand... why do I have to give time to Pakhi, or worry about her?"

"Because you two love each other, obviously!"

"What!" Raghav spluttered, "Who told you that?"

"No one... I figured it out..." She said, her back to Raghav, pretending to concentrate on some file.

Not getting any response from Raghav she turned towards him. He was looking in her direction with an incredulous expression. As he understood that she really meant it, he burst out laughing.

"Gosh, Kalpi! Don't tell me you really thought that!" He said between peals of laughter. Kalpi looked at him in confusion. "You mean, you don't love Pakhi?"

"Of course not! Really Kalpi, I've never heard of a more ridiculous idea!" Raghav said.

"But... I thought..." Kalpi said, somewhat relieved but still confused. "But the way Pakhi talks about you, I think she likes you..."

"Yeah, well she does... at least did... she proposed me."

"What!"

"Yeah... but I made it clear I have no interest in her, and she understood." Raghav said casually.

"She must be hurt..." Kalpi said, worried.

"Don't worry, it was just a crush, she'll get over it."

"Yeah..." Another question was going around Kalpi's mind. "But... if it's not Pakhi you love, then who is it?"

"Huh?! Love... whom... what..." He stammered, not understanding what to do. "Who-who? I-I don't love anyone... it's nothing... Um, I've got some work, I-I'll see you later..."

He literally ran out, while Kalpi laughed at his antics.

"Not Pakhi... but he does love someone..." Kalpi said thoughtfully, "Who could it be? Can it be... no, how can it be... but maybe..." She remembered his concern for her, the way he stopped her from leaving, the way he bugged her all day, trying to know the reason for her worry...

She snapped out of her reverie. "What the hell am I thinking? I should get back to work..."

Sumi and Pakya had come closer in the past few days. They spent a lot of time together, and Sumi had even visited their house once or twice. Kalpi and Sumi had also become friends, and the whole family liked Sumi a lot. In very less time, Sumi had become a part of their family, and almost everyone could guess what was following. The only thing left out was Sumi's past and family, about which Sumi had not yet told anything.

Meanwhile, Suman and Prem had also taken a step closer, and were learning to cooperate, to prepare for the possibility of working together. Though unknowingly, they were spending some good time together, on the pretext of "learning to cooperate". Though so dissimilar, they did think similarly in many aspects. "Just that I'm smarter" Suman would say, with a naughty smile and wink, whenever this topic would come up.

"Where the hell are you, Suman? Pick up my phone..." Prem said as he tried calling her, standing outside his car waiting for her to come. He was getting more and more annoyed and worried with each passing minute.

He texted her, "Are you planning to come? Or do you want to sit in front of the dressing room all night?"

After waiting for 5-10 minutes, all through checking his phone every 20 seconds, he finally received a text.

"20 missed calls! Wow! What happened, is choco-pie worried for his little enemy-cum-friend?"

Prem rolled his eyes exasperatedly and texted, "Of course! Why else can I be calling you? It's not at all as if you're wasting my time, or making me wait, is it? Do me a favour, please come soon, or I'll die of worry..."

"Ha ha ha... I'm coming in a while, try to survive till then "

"Sure... just come quickly please, I don't like to wait."

"Well, I am full of things you don't like... so let's add one more to the list..."

"No need... the list is already very very long, no need for another addition. Do one thing, the list of what I like is quite short, add to that one."

"Quite short? I thought it was empty... That means you like something about me."

"Very funny. Now stop chattering and come here."

Prem looked up from his phone. He was already looking around to see her, and shockingly, he did. She standing nearby with a guy, reading something on her phone and laughing. She showed it to the guy with her, and Prem was shocked to recognise him.

"She's making me wait, and hanging around with that Pakya!" Prem felt a surge of anger and jealousy rise up inside him. He again texted her, "Suman, where are you?"

And turned towards her. She was again doing something on her mobile.

He checked his phone. She had replied, "Sitting on your head! I'm on my way, Choco-Pie! Have some patience!"

He turned to the couple. They were enjoying some conversation.

"Let's see how you react when you see me here..." Prem said to himself and walked towards them.

The girl looked surprised and confused on seeing him. "Yes?" Pakya also turned towards him, shocked.

"Prem Kapoor!"

"Yes" Prem said coldly and turned to the girl who was supposedly Suman. "Sorry to disturb your romantic date', but I believe we were supposed to meet and talk."

She looked confused. "Sorry?"

"Don't act, now... you know what I'm talking about..."

"No, I'm sorry, I don't... I've never even seen you before..."

"Oh come on, you think I would believe this pretence... you're not that good... and you surely don't have the brains you flaunt so much, or else you wouldn't have chosen this idiot over me..."

Pakya flared up, "Hey!"

"Wait, wait, boys! There's some confusion, so let's clear it instead of fighting..."

"Sumi, you don't know him - "

"Oh, Sumi... nice nickname, Suman!" Prem said, edging towards her.

"You - " Pakya aimed a punch at him, but Sumi stopped him. "Wait Pakya!" Realization had dawned on her.

At that very moment, Suman's voice came from behind.

"There you are! First you are ever so impatient, and now that I come you vanish! What the hell are..."

She stopped abruptly seeing the person in front of her.

All four people were shocked.

"Suman" The girl beside Pakya said.

"Sumi" The girl who had just entered the scene now acknowledged her sister's presence.
