Hello!
Here's chapter 12... I hope u all like it...
Chapter 12: Decisions, Settlements, and Intuitions
(earlier that day)
Kalpi was doing her work. Raghav started calling her to his cabin on some pretext or the other. Every time he kept asking if she was ok. She would reply in a yes every time, but Raghav would not be satisfied. Perhaps he could see she was not entirely truthful.
Finally Kalpi asked him.
"Sir, you've already asked a hundred times if I'm ok, why are you asking like this?"
Raghav got up and went towards her. "Because I know you're not... I'mjust waiting for you to tell me the reason... will you bother to tell me what's happening, or am I not worthy of that knowledge?"
"Raghav, it's nothing like that... it's just that... I can't tell you..." Kalpi said.
Raghav turned her towards himself, "You can tell me anything" Kalpi looked at him, wondering what to say. They just looked at each other for some time. Suddenly a knock disturbed them. They turned towards the door, startled.
It was Pakhi.
She got surprised to see Kalpi standing there.
"Yes Miss Kapoor" Raghav asked, trying hard to conceal his irritation for the interruption.
"Um, yes, actually I wanted to discuss about this presentation..." She eyed Kalpi uncomfortably, making her feel awkward.
"We'll discuss it later..." He said dismissively.
"Ok..." Pakhi made her way for the door. Kalpi tried to follow, but Raghav held her by the hand.
"Not you Kal - Mi-Miss Jadav..." He said. Pakhi looked at their intertwined hands. Sensing her discomfort, Kalpi immediately freed her hand. Raghav understood, and said, "Miss Jadav, I-I need to discuss something with you... Miss Kapoor, you may continue with your work..."
"Yes sir." Pakhi said and went out, clearly displeased.
After Pakhi went out, Kalpi tried to go. "Sir I need to do some work... we'll talk about it later..."
Raghav pondered on what had happened. "Is it just me, or did she become more uncomfortable after Pakhi came? I need to find out what's bothering her..."
...
Kalpi had come at the cafeteria to get a cup of coffee. She was about to go when someone caught hold of her hand. She turned around and was shocked.
"Raghav! What are you doing? Leave my hand!" She said urgently.
"No, I won't... not until you tell me what it is that is bothering you!" Raghav replied adamantly.
"Sir, please - " Kalpi tried to make him understand, glancing around, worried about what the people would think, but Raghav cut in between.
"Firstly, no sir... call me Raghav all the time, just like you did just now. And don't worry about anyone else, right now I'm talking to you, concentrate on that, and please answer me..."
Kalpi fidgeted. "Please sir-Raghav- please leave my hand, try to understand..."
"No Kalpi you try to understand - I need to know what's bothering you, and you have to tell me... I can't stand not knowing... I can't stand seeing you like this, sad all the time, and not do anything to make you happy!"
"Raghav please, I can't tell you..."
"Why can't you? Don't you trust me?" Raghav asked.
"No, it's not like that, Raghav! I do trust you..."
"Then why can't you tell me? Why are you doing this to me?" Raghav said pleadingly, "Please don't do this to me... don't keep me in the dark... please tell me, Kalpi, please... or I'll take it that you don't trust me enough to tell me your problem..."
Kalpi didn't say anything for a while. "Raghav... please understand... I can't tell anyone, not even you... at least not right now... I can't tell you about it right now..." She said slowly, trying to explain to him.
Raghav pondered for a while. "Okay... I won't ask you right now... but you'll have to tell me later, okay?"
"Hmm... Okay." Kalpi said. Maybe someday it wouldn't matter anymore.' She thought.
"And promise that you wouldn't stress yourself over whatever it is."
"But - "
"Just promise."
"Okay... Promise."
They both smiled and went back to work.
...
(evening)
Prem went up to Pakhi's room, then hesitated before knocking. "I can't believe I'm doing this..." he said to himself while knocking. It was Pakhi who opened the door. She looked puzzled to see Prem there.
"You want something?" She asked.
"No... I mean, not from you... I need to talk to Suman."
Pakhi looked at him dumbfounded. "You - want to talk to Suman?"
"Yes!" Prem said, annoyed.
"Yeah... okay... I'll tell her..." Pakhi said.
"Wait! Tell her to come to the sitting room, we'll discuss there..." He added hurriedly before leaving.
"Okay" Pakhi said.
After sometime of waiting, Suman came to the living room.
"So, Choco-Pie, what do you want to say?"
Prem somehow controlled himself. "Please Suman, no jokes right now... It's something serious..."
Suman sat down on the sofa. "Okay, go ahead..."
"Um, actually, I was wondering if..." Prem started, trying to phrase it properly, but Suman cut in.
"Get to the point..."
"Okay... well, we need your help." He said. Suman raised her eyebrow.
"In what?"
Prem was having a hard time staying patient. "Business, of course!"
"Hmm... but why would you need my help?"
"Because not so long ago realization struck me that you're not as stupid as you seem" He muttered almost inaudibly.
"What?" Suman asked
"No, nothing... I was just saying that I just discovered that you're quite talented... and... one would be extremely foolish to leave such a talent unutilised... so... will you join us?"
Suman thought for a bit. "Maybe..."
"Really?" Prem asked incredulously, "You're turning down a job offer in Kapoor Constructions?"
"Well... I don't know..." Suman said, unsure. "Okay I'll think about it and tell you later... but yes, till then I can give ideas sometimes..."
Prem had to settle with that. "Okay..."
Suman went back to her room.
"This girl and her tantrums!Really!" He said to himself, "She is some girl, really... who turns down such a good offer, really?"
...
"Hi Pakya, Sumi here..."
Pakya looked at his phone unbelievingly. "H-Hi!" He managed to stammer.
"Umm... sorry to bother you at this time... but I needed someone to talk to, and you are the only person I know here..." She said.
"Of course you can call me anytime... tell me about anything you're worried about..." Pakya said.
"Actually... I have this feeling, that something is going to happen, I don't know good or bad, but something big... I have this feeling that maybe something from my past will come in front of me again..." Sumi said.
"Past? What about it?" Pakya asked, curious.
Sumi hesitated. Pakya understood that she didn't want to share her past yet.
"It's ok, no need to say anything if you don't want to... but if ever you feel like telling anyone, remember I'm always here to listen..." He said smiling.
"Thanks for understanding..." Sumi said, relieved. "Oh, it's getting late, I think we both should go to sleep now... We should meet again tomorrow, 6 pm is okay, right?"
"Yes, at the park?"
"Yes, park's good... seeing you tomorrow then, goodnight."
"Goodnight."
After disconnecting, Pakya and Sumita both looked at the crescent moon from their windows, smiling. Kalpi was at the balcony, also looking at the moon. She didn't know that Raghav was also nearby, he had come there to have a glimpse of her. He stood partially hidden near the chawl's entrance, looking first at her and then at the moon, thinking, Even if it had been a full moon night, then also you would have looked prettier than the moon..."
