Chapter 14: Anger management

Ragav walks into the office building quietly seething in anger, ignores everybody around him and heads straight for the boardroom. He storms into the boardroom, banging the door in the process and lashes out, "What was so important that it could not wait a day or two?" Sammy looks at Ragav, sensing the anger emanating from him; he understands that Ragav would prefer to be home with his mum, while she recovers. Sammy takes a step to his right and sees Ragav's expression give way from anger to surprise.

Ragav mutely stares at Pakhi and thinks to himself, "Pakhi! Huh... like I give a damn." He looks to Sammy quizzically, he tries to calm himself as he walks in, takes a seat and in a hard voice says, "Sammy, care to explain" as he gestures towards Pakhi. Before Sammy can answer, Pakhi sniffles; Ragav turns towards her irritated with the interruption, about to lash out again, he notices that Pakhi is crying. He sighs and prays to God for patience, politely asks, "Pakhi, why are you crying?" as he looks towards Sammy for answers.

Ragav, Sammy and Pakhi head towards Ragav's home, each lost in their own thoughts...

Ragav: What a hellish day... can't wait to get home to Kalpi.

Sammy: Phew, the day is nearly over... hope tomorrow is a better day.

Pakhi: How could my parents do this to Ragav? Ragav will not want to marry me now.

Kalpi hears the jingle of keys at the door and rushes out of the kitchen towards the entrance. With one hand on her hip and the other holding a wooden spatula, she waits for Ragav to enter the house. Kalpi angrily says, "Don't even think of taking another step Mr Ragav Singhania." Ragav looks up surprised, in front of him is his wife, looking like a warrior with her eyes spitting daggers at him and thinks, "What have I done?" He turns to Sammy confused, who is standing behind him in the corridor, Sammy shrugs and thinks, "Mate, she is your wife... you are alone here."

He looks back at Kalpi, confusion clearly etched on his face, but not daring to move, he looks at his aai who is calmly sitting on the sofa watching the fiasco with a grin. Kalpi angrily continues, "Do you know what time it is... you did not answer my calls nor call back... "He looks at Kalpi, and thinks, "Is she planning to hit me with the spatula, her body language says yes. Well she willhave to catch me first..." and proceeds to imagine such a scenario, lost in thought, he breaks into a grin.

Kalpi is so angry; she cannot believe that Ragav is grinning while she is giving him an earful, Ragav sees the hurt in her eyes and walks towards her, giving her an apologetic smile. He grabs hold of her hand, the hand with the spatula, as he does not want to take the risk in case she does decide to whack him with it. He turns towards his aai and Sammy and politely says, "Please excuse us" and heads towards their bedroom with Kalpi in tow.

Sammy and Gauri maa look at one another and burst out laughing. Before them can say anything, that would disclose Ragav and Kalpi's relationship, Pakhi walks in, shocked to the core, and says, "Has Kalpi's senses taken a leave of absence? How can she yell at Ragav sir?" She looks worriedly to Sammy and Gauri maa for answers. For deep down, she thinks that Kalpi is going to be in a lot of trouble, having just yelled at her boss. Sammy and Gauri maa exchange a conspiring look, Sammy turns to Pakhi and thinks, "How did I forget she was there", and in a serious voice states, "You are right, Pakhi. What is Kalpi thinking shouting at Ragav?"

Sammy and Pakhi join Gauri maa, Sammy and Gauri maa talk loudly amongst themselves, trying to drown out Kalpi's voice, which they could hear through the bedroom door, occasionally including Pakhi into the conversation.

Ragav sits on the bed silently as Kalpi rages on in her rant spree. Through her ranting, Ragav is able to understand that Kalpi is reacting in this manner, motivated by the worry she felt for him throughout the day when she was not able to get in touch with either him or Sammy. He knows that all this is new for her too and patiently sits and lets her work the emotions out of her system. Moments later, Ragav thinks to himself, "Kalpi is showing no sign of stopping her ranting session anytime soon, I need to do something." Ragav pulls her towards him and kisses her, thus effectively shutting her up. Kalpi hugs Ragav tightly and says brokenly, "Don't ever do this to me again Ragav... I was so worried... with everything that has happened these last few days...I was worried... I am sorry I over reacted." Ragav kisses her on her forehead and says reassuringly, "I am so sorry too, Kalpi. This is all new for me too. It has been a very long time since I have been answerable to someone. I promise to always answer, when you call."

As Kalpi heads out of the room, she turns towards Ragav and with mischief in her eyes, cheekily says, "Don't you forget Mr Singhania, at home I am the boss!" Ragav grins and grabs the wooden spatula saying, "why you", both have laughter in their eyes. Kalpi squeak and runs out of the bedroom as Raghav closely chases after her. Both freeze as they see three pairs of eyes watching them from the sitting room, two in humour and one in shock.

Ragav turns away and heads back to the bedroom muttering, "What does a man have to do around here to get some privacy with his wife!"
