Chapter_05:

It was 11 at night. Manvi was again sitting at her window when Tanu came n found her immersed in thought. She called her hesitantly-

Tanu : Di', may I come in?

Manvi : Hmm.Tu soi nehi ab tak? kaafi raat ho gayi hai !!

T : nehi di,m not feeling sleepy. N aap se kuch baat bhi karni thi.pakka,apko disturb to nehi kiya na?

M : Nahi tanu,its ok.aur mera kya hai,main to aise hi baithi thi.

Tanu noticed d sad tone in Manvi's voice. She sat in front of her. She placed her hand on manvi's and said "Di.."But manvi was quick to hide her feelings. She doesn't want to share her turmoil with any1.

Manvi: tu bata,kya baat karni thi?( she said, trying to keep d tone normal )

T: woh di,u know na,I give tuition to some kids . Do din baad Mothers day hai na,toh main mumma k liye koi gift lena chahti thi.So can we plz go shopping 2morrow?

M:plz tanu, u can go alone ,r8?

Manvi was in no mood to go anywhere but she had to give up to Tanu's continuous nagging. So finally Tanu left after giving her a hug. Manvi gave a sigh n said in mind "God ji, at least iske sapne kabhi mat todna. Keep her happy always"

On d other hand Tanu stopped at d corridor after coming out from manvi's room. She could go alone for shopping but she really wanted to take manvi with her hoping to change Manvi's mood a bit. She remembered when uncle was alive she used to come n visit Manvi's house during vacations with her parents. They had a gr8 tym together. manvi was d most charming n bubbly girl she ever knew. But after Uncle died everything changed. Her manvi di has lost d meaning of being alive. She closed her eyes n prayed" God ji,mere di ko pehle jaisa bana do.u can do anything. unke lyf mein koi miracle la do."

May b God was smiling at their prayers, n this tym positively.

Next morning on vadera house

Its Shlok's bday.Virat came to d Hall n saw every1 busy in d party planning "aare mar gaya!! I promised to give Shlok a PSP on his bday.kaise bhul gaya!!koi baat nehi virat,its still not late.i'll get 1 now" He thought & left quickly to get Shlok's bday gift.

Here after breakfast, manvi accompanied Tanu for shopping half-heartedly.but she was surprised wen they reached d place.

M:Tanu,hum iss Mall mein kyun aye hai?u know na, everything is so costly here !!

T:Di,do u think m stupid? ye dekho,( n she shows manvi a banner) yahan pe 70% off ka sale laga hai.n on some shops 1 pe 1 item free bhi hai.aisa mowka phir nehi milega.so Chalooo (n she drags Manvi inside d mall)

Tanu buys a pair of wrist watches (on by 1 get 1 free offer).1 for her mom n another for Sheetal aunti who was lyk her 2^nd mom.

T:Di aap bhi kuch lo na aunti k liye.

Manvi wanted to, n she knew mumma will b happy, but she wanted to give mumma sth to make her happy permanently, not momentarily.

M:aaj nehi tanu''woh'abhi 2 din hai na.i'll take sth later.

T: achcha di,I have to pick some book from d library n also parcel this watch to mumma.u wanna come?

M:no u go,I'll see u at home.

T:ok di.(& she takes a leave)

Manvi was abt to come out of d Mall wen her phone rang. She picked up d it up.

The person:Miss manvi Choudhry?

M:Yes!!
The person:I m Rahul,Rahul Mehta,we met yesterday,remember? U left yesterday without saying anything!!(Manvi cursed herself for receiving d call.She should have left it unanswered!!!)She was abt to cut d call wen d person spoke

The person: hey wait,b4 u cut my call, Iisten. I just wanted to tell u d offer I gave u is still open, if u'''.

That was it. Manvi couldn't take it anymore. She disconnected d line. She stood there clenching her fists. that man was such a bas***d, how dare he called her!!tears came n fogged her vision due to anger. She didn't realize when she came out of d Mall n was walking on d busy road.She was abt to come in front of a car when some1 pulled her at d r8 tym. It was only then,when Manvi realized what was abt to happen.

"Manvi,tum thik ho?".She looked at d person n found someone she least expected to be present there at that moment.

M: Vi.. Virat!!

Virat: Manvi,dhyan kaha hai tumhara?agar abhi main nehi ata to kitna bada accident ho sakta tha pata hai ?

M:toh?(manvi retorted in a sour tone releasing her hand with a sudden jolt form virat's grip which he was still holding)

V:Manvi?? (virat was shocked at her reaction)

M:virat plz.har baar mujhe bachane aana zarori hai kya?just leave me alone!!

V:manvi?aise kyun bol rahi ho?aur aisi kaunsi soch mein doobi thi k tumhe woh car bhi nehi dikha?

M:Virat plz, is waqt m not in a mood to talk to any1.mujhe bas ghar jana hai.so leave me alone.

V: Achcha? leave u alone?taaki tum phirse cars se takrati phiro?No way manvi,I won't leave u alone even if u ask me to.its ok if u don't want to tell me anything. But let me drop u home.
M:virat plz'

But b4 she could say anything Virat dragged her to his car n made her sit there n sat on d driver's sit.

M: vir'.

V:Manvi'..,enough.Chup chap baitho n apna address batao.(he said in a commanding tone)

Manvi gave up her struggle, there was already enough struggle going inside her.She was trying hard not to cry,not in front of Virat at least.She turned away her face from him n looked out of d window, She swallowed d lump in her throat and tried to act as if nothing was wrong ' as if her ... she fought to keep her voice steady as she said "Panchkula,sector 20".

Virat's car moved fast. But he kept on looking at Manvi from d corner of his eyes."God!!! sth is definitely wrong with her!!"But he decided to give her some space. Manvi was still looking outside. So many things going on inside her- anger, frustration, helplessness-and everything was blurring her vision. She clenched her dupatta n tried to control herself but this time she was unsuccessful in stopping the tears from welling up in her eyes. Virat couldn't take it anymore wen he saw Manvi crying silently.He pushed d break n d car stopped with a jolt.

V: bas manvi! That's enough!! U have to tell me wats wrong!

Manvi shouted at him "u stop it Virat! It's u who forced me to come with u. I never wanted to. N now u r asking me wats wrong? i don't wanna share anything with any1.tum hote kaun ho mujhse yeh sab poochne wale? (n she tried to open d door to get off from d car)

"Manvi wait" Virat said holding her hand to stop her but left it next moment as Manvi looked at his hand. "Sorry... Yes, u r r8.may b m no one to u. but to me u r my friend." He said n manvi looked at him surprised with his choice of words.

V: manvi u have to stop torturing urself.plz tell me kya baat hai??plz share with me ,may b u'll feel better!

There was an assurance in his tone n Manvi didn't know y but she felt she could confide him with d truth. N may b she was tired of fighting with herself. She tried to regain her voice and make a reply.

M:woh..Vi.. virat

V:haan,bolo'

M:woh, yesterday I had a job interview at Vadera Associates.

*Wait did she just say Vadera Associates.it's dadaji's company* virat was a bit shocked.
V: that famous law farm,r8?

manvi nodded

V: so what went wrong there?

M:d interviewer, that manager, he said I can have d job,if '..(she hesitates)

V: if'if what Manvi?
M:agar main uski shart maan lu?

V:kaisi shart?

M:he said If I want this job I have to Compro'.(she couldn't finish d sentence n closed her eyes)

virat's blood boiled in anger. How can any1 stoop so low n give such a dirty offer to a girl? He held manvi by both her shoulder n asked "kya naam hai uska?'
M:vir'(Manvi was scared n shocked to see Virat like this.)

V:maine poocha kya naam hai uska?(he said emphasizing on each word)

M:Ra'Rahul Mehta

& that was it.Virat back geared his car n drove angrily. manvi didn't know how to react. She kept on saying "Virat'.stop d car'..where r we going''..virat just'''gadi rook virat'..mujhe dar lag raha hai'.." till virat finally pushed his car-break hard n took her out of d car. Manvi noticed they were entering d office of Vadera Associates.She tried to stop him but virat almost drag her inside.he entered d manager's cabin furiously .Rahul stood up seeing Virat n tried to speak "Virat sir'" but stopped as his gaze followed manvi who was standing behind Virat.Virat dragged him by his collar b4 he could react.He started punching him hard.He dragged him out of his cabin while beating him badly n said "teri himmat kaise huyi ek ladki se aise baat karne ki?"

D whole office gathered there by this tym. Manvi was too shocked with all this. She had already seen him angry b4 & knew she had to stop him to stop things from getting worse. She tried to stop him but couldn't. so she shouted "Virat stop it,just leave him".Suddenly Virat stopped n looked towards her.His eyes were shot red with anger.he glared at Rahul .He dragged him through d corridor n pushed him out towards d main door, shouting "Nikal ja yahan se.aur agar ainda kabhi tu mere saamne aya na'.JAAN SE MAAR DUNGA".He closed his eyes for a second to suppress his anger ,then looked at manvi n walked towards her. he was abt to say "Manvi,tum'" but was cut off by her as she said " Virat, plz lets go from here".It was only then ,when Virat realized that d whole staff was witnessing d incident n it must b really awkward for Manvi. So without saying anything he nodded yes n followed Manvi out of d office.

Outside d office manvi stood by Virat's car.Virat could see a questioned look in her eyes.

V: Manvi, look I know I owe u an explanation for whatever I did.Actually'.woh'. Vadera associates humari company hai.I mean mere dadaji ki.

M:Kya!!!

Manvi was hell shocked. This was sth she least expected. She stood like a statue n listened to virat while he went on saying---

V: haan. N wen I came to know dat humare kisi employee ne aisi ghatiya harkat ki hai toh'..N Vadera Associates ho ya koi aur company, that's not d point. coz, woh insaan kisi bhi company ka hota ,main uske saath aisa hi karta.coz he deserves it. In fact, he deserves a lot more than this.aaj agar tumne nehi roka hota toh'

M:toh tum uski jaan le lete,r8?

Virat looked away trying to control his anger.

M:yehi to main nehi chahti thi virat.dekho virat,mujhe nehi pata tha ke ye tumhari company hai.all I knew was u were beating that guy 4 me. U stood by me as a friend. But I didn't want that u get into any trouble.aur who bhi meri wajah se.ek aisi ladki ki wajah se jo bas 2 din pehle tumhari dost bani hai.

V:shut up manvi !!(he said looking straight into her eyes) that's no logic ok. Pehli baat, even if u were a stranger I had done d same.coz what's wrong, is wrong. We claim to b modern,to b progressing. but shame on that mentality where d women in our society still have to face such situations, n jobs r offered not on d basis of talent but.' Aur rahi friendship ki baat...(he paused a little) dosti dosti hoti hai manvi, chahe woh 2 saal purani ho ya 2 din.

Manvi felt really warm to hear that. After ages sm1 talked to her lyk that. Yes, she knew Virat from only 2 days, they became friends when she knew almost nothing abt him, not even that he was Virat Vadera. But that didn't matter anymore. At that moment she became certain of 1 thing. Yes, Virat was a good friend.coz he was a good human being. A person who respects women can never b a bad guy.

Virat stopped his car as manvi suddenly said "roko roko"

V:kya hua?

M:mera ghar aa gaya.

Virat looked at d small but beautiful Duplex house on d other side of d road.Manvi was abt to get out of d car wen he said "wait".He got out of d car n opened d door for manvi.She came out n said "thanx virat"

V: kyunki maine apke liye car ka door khola?well u'r welcome madam (n he smiled)

M:no,sirf iske liye nehi.uss saab k liye jo tumne kiya.

V:come on manvi,u heard that old saying , "no sorry/thanku in friendship" r8?so don't mention it. apne dushman k liye itna tokar hi sakta hoon,nehi?

M:dushman!!

V:haan,remember,tum musibat ki friend ho aur main tum dono ka dushman ?
M:yeah!!!r8!!(she said smiling a bit)

V:waise let me tell u sth,mujhe tumhara ek secret pata chala hai !!

M: secret!!

V:haan,yehi k tum pichle janam me tax collector thi,aur tumhara motto tha "hasne pe bhi tax lagta hai".

Manvi frowned at him.

V: come on manvi,keep on smiling yaar.isse na, har mushkil asan ho jati hai. N if not,at least use ladne ki takat to zaroor aa jati hai.

M:virat plz,these clich lines only sounds good, but asli zindegi mein aisa kuch nehi hota .( n she looked away)

V:come on manvi!! Y r u always so negative yaar! Who doesn't have problems in lyf?but u should never stop following ur dreams .( virat was himself surprised!! He was saying all this!! It sounded to him like he was saying this more to himself, than to Manvi )

M:yeah!!dreams!! (virat noticed a sarcastic tone in her voice)

V:manvi'

M:virat plz, lets not talk abt this.(she paused a little).anyways, thanx a lot for dropping me home.

V:badi kanjoos ho yaar,sirf thanx?ghar k bahar se hi bhaganeka irada hai?i thought at least u'll ask me for a coffee!!

M:no,no ,aisi baat nehi hai.u r most welcome.

V:aare nehi main to bass mazak kar raha tha.may b some other day.waise bhi, I have to rush home now,ghar mein function hai, n mujhe wahan hona chahiye.

M:ok

Virat went a few steps but then stopped n called "Manvi"

Manvi turned around n saw him coming back

V:woh,I just wanna say,u can still join Vadera associates.if u want I can talk to dadaji'

M:no virat.its true that I need a job.But, on my own abilities, kisi ki sifarish mein nehi.coz,even if I take this job,mujhe hamesha yehi lagega,k mujhe ye job isliye mili hai kyunki main virat vadera ki friend hoon,is liye nehi k m qualified for it.

V:Hey,its ok'.fine we won't talk abt it anymore.i won't do anything to make u uncomfortable. but ,kabhi bhi tumhe meri zaroorat ho'.as a friend..just remember, m there.

M:I know (she said, smiling)

V:Bye (he said n took leave & manvi stood there smiling unconsciously n watching him go.)

On her way back home,Tanu saw Manvi di talking to a guy in front of their house. She couldn't hear their covno as she was standing a bit far. She saw manvi sanding there wearing a smile on her face till his car went out of vision. Her di was smiling'that too after ages!!!!

After reaching home Virat was trying to help his mom in birthday preparations when Tarun came with d message that dadaji called him at d study. As he entered d study he saw Dadaji sitting with a serious face on the sofa. Viren was standing by his side. "dadaji,apne mujhe bulaya? "he asked.

"andar aa jao" Dadaji said in a somber voice. He slowly got up ,looked straight into Virat's eyes n asked "Virat,aaj office mein kya hua??"

Virat could suddenly understand why he was called,but b4 he could say anything dadaji came forward n placed his 1 hand on virat's shoulder,saying "Virat beta,I know tum aisa koi kaam nehi karoge jo galat ho.is liye main puri baat janna chata hoon.akhir aisa kya hua jo tumne uss manager ko office se nikal dia?"

So,Virat explained how that cheap fellow gave a dirty offer to his friend. dadaji n viren both were shocked to hear that.dadaji's face became more stern, n finally he said "bade hi sharm ki baat hai. Virat,tumne bilkul thik kia beta"

Viren came forward n said "haan Virat,agar aaj main teri jagah hota na,to mai bhi shayad yehi karta"

Dadaji : Virat, apne dost se humari taraf se maafi mang lena beta,use kehna k hum bohot sharminda hai k humari office mein kisi ladki k sath aisa bartav hua

Viren: in fact dadaji,we should call her at d interview again.

Virat:nehi bhai, I don't think she'll come.In fact,maine bhi use aisa kaha tha. But she said,agar who koi job karegi to apne kabiliyat pe,kisi k pehchan ya sifarish pe nehi

Dadji:Viren,Dekha jaye to Virat ki baat sahi hai. & humein kisi ki self respect ko chot nehi pohchana chahiye.(then he thought for a while) Virat,tum ek kaam karo,u give me her detail,I mean CV wagerah.n I'll talk to some other companies. Agar uss bachchi mein kabiliyat hai to use koi job zaroor mil jayegi.N don't worry, I'll make sure she doesn't come to know that I referred her.

V:really dadaji !!!

D:why not?if she is uncomfortable to work here, itna to hum kar hi sakte hai!

V:thanx dadaji (he said smiling n left)

In d evening every1 gathered at d hall for Shlok's party.they celebrated by cutting d cake n Shlok had fun with his family n friend.Virat gave d PSP to Shlok n he was really happy to see it

Shlok:wow virat bhaiya!!! u r d best (n hugged him)

V: Anything for u chotu

S: achcha!!! to phir aj mujhe apse 1 aur gift chahiye.u have to sing sth for me.plz bhaiya,its my bday.

Every1 turned towards him n was shocked to hear it coz they knew virat vowed never to sing again.D color of Virat's face changed. kadambari chichi came forward n scolded Shlok n made him shut up.Virat ran his fingers through Shlok's hair n left d hall sadly. All family members n especially Vanshika stood silently n saw virat leaving.

In his room virat was sitting idle on his bean bag. Many past memories were disturbing him again. Finally he focused on d papers in his hand. His fav articles. he started reading''.

…….. "look at ur lyf from a different perspective if u want to make a difference. We have to make decisions in lyf,at every step. any one of you, who's confused abt _what to do—I would say follow ur dreams. sounds clich r8? Yes it is.but trust me its not clich at all. Coz every1 has a different dream, n so every dream in this world is unique in its own way. We give up coz there r many obstacles. Each of us who want to do something on our own; we fear rejection, rejection from our dear ones. But, if you do so you will end up not to dream anything for yourself.All your wishes will be fulfilled by your elders.Trust me ur family wants d same as u do,they want u to b happy.its just that, their way is a little different.But trust me,wen u'll achieve wat u dreamt of they'll b d Happiest ones. As u grow up, d number of ppl who share same POV as urs will decrease. We fear of being lonely,but 4get dat we r never alone as long our dreams r with us. Don't b afraid of struggles, failures or don't give up to emotional turmoils………coz trust me, at d end , standing on ur own feet by following ur dream n being self made – is d best thing in this world. ………"

Virat remembered how his family wanted him to b a lawyer n join d family business.But his heart was not in it.But he didin't have d courage to say this to dadaji.Moreover,he was himself confused what he really wanted !! Then 1 day he came across this article,it felt lyk every word was written for him. He felt a connection with d author. From then on he never failed to read n collect them,not even after going US to study music. Yes, it was those words which made him think seriously wat he actually wanted from lyf n 1 day he got courage to say this to Dadaji.dadaji didn't lyk it at all but finally agreed bcoz of Vanshika Mom's n Viren's request.

Virat sighed n picked another one ..." sapne,taron ki tarah hotein hai . Tarein insaanse se bohot dur hai,par insaanuse hamesha unko dekh sakta hai,aur us tak pohochna chahta hai.aur zinke dil mein junoon hota hai,woh taron tak pohonch bhi jatein hai.Thik usi tarah, jinki ankhey taron ki tarah sapno se bhari hoti hai,wohi log un sapno ko hakikat bana sakte hai.manzil chahein jitna dur ho,usko paa sakte hai.jab tara tootta hai to hum khush hotein ,dua mangte hai.Toh sapne tootne pe haar kyun man jatein hai?kyuna hum un tootein huye sapno ko apni taqat bana leh!!apni dua mein shamil karein! Aur zindegi ko phirse ek mauka de?...

He looked at d star filled sky from his window "Bhagwan ji, I want to believe in these words again.I want to give a 2^nd chance to my lyf.Plz is baar mera sath dijiye ga.

Here, in her room,Manvi was staring at d sky too. "huh, dreams!!" she thought " who could have believed in it more than her?Her Papa taught her to dream n make lyf beautiful. But, now all she believed was'Dreams r d worlds biggest lies"

So that's how Virat n manvi r. Poles apart form each other,in beliefs,in attitudes in almost every aspect. Will their friendship b able to stand d test of time, or will it bring problems for them????

Precap : '.. after taking a shower Manvi stood in front of d mirror.But as soon as she picked up her hair brush she heard sm1 calling her name "Manvi !!!"

d hair brush fell from her hand hearing d voice n she froze as she saw d reflection of d person in her mirror.She couldn't believe her eyes. tears welled up in her eyes & she hardly managed to utter " Di !!!" .Jeevika was standing at d door with teary eyes.It took manvi a few seconds to gather strength n then she turned n ran towards Jeevika & embraced her in a tight hug. manvi felt if she loosened her grip, she'll loose Jevika again''.
