PART 2

St Stephens Hospital

Outside operation theatre

2 pm

" The operation was a success. Her vitals are stable. She is under the effect of anaesthesia. She will be kept in the post op ICU for observation for next few hours."

"Thank you doctor."

"Mr Vadhera. She will be fine. Dr Elen will take good care of her"

He wished he could walk right past the glass door , to her. To hold her hand. Tell her ...tell her that he was here . But he knew he couldn't . Atleast not now.

He was happy though. 'She was fine'.

But that very faith was shaken this morning.

Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi

2 am

Four years back he was standing at the same place, but then he was boarding the flight out. Having lost his mother to the cancer and having lost the one girl , who meant his life, he saw no choice but to go away.

But today he was back. Back home , with a refound courage to win the battle that he had once given up, to win her back.

Brimming with joy, smiling at himself, walking towards the exit, he looked at the crowd at the airport. People, ...some moving in a haste, some seated casually, some staring at the Plasma screen , watching some breaking news ' TRAIN ACCIDENT. Delhi bound rajdhani express meets with an accident between rathlam and kota junction , 4 coaches derailed, 5 casuality till now, officials and medical help rush to the accident site....'

'Train accident,' Delhi bound rajdhani express '. he couldn't register anything beyond that.

He was unsure, so decided to check his inbox, to check her last message.

Text 1 "No Viren. I know you will come to Mumbai later. But I want to meet you when you land."

Next text 2 hours later

Text 2 " I missed my train. But am catching the rajdhani express. My back up plans always turn out useful, don't they?

I will be late, but will head straight to the hotel once I reach"

His world froze now. He stood staring at the news for few minutes, ...

She was on that train. But may be not. She might have missed it .

What if she boarded it? She could not have been in those coaches? But what if ...

He rang up the helpline. Line engaged... cursing ... kept redailing, until a voice replied to the call.

" Hello, this is railway helpline. What..."

" I need to know if a passenger was on the rajdhani, the...(checking the tv screen), the 12951, if she was in the coach".

"Sir, may I have the name"

"Its Jeevika, Jeevika choudary"

"Please be on line"... " yes sir, Ms Jeevika choudary was in the coach A1" the voice became grave " Sir all the injured have been admitted in one of 'AIIMS institute, Max or St Stephens hospital, Delhi. You will have to get in touch with the hospitals for further enquiries."

It's different which is really nice. I really liked the first bit, the whole hospital setting felt so real and true. Something which I love to see. The next part two was really believable so it was quite easy to connect with Viren.

Exactly what I love too, a bit of angst and despair. The seeds have been sown for the past: dead mother and lost love. Wonder where Jeevika fits in in all this.
