I agree with you that Rishi should have and could have done things differently. He is a 'common' man who has no self identity and that explains his tailing on to Shaurya and his cowardice/ silence.

Even the weakest of people can be jolted out of inaction when their conscience is awakened from it's deep slumber. It may not sound logical, but people do make changes to attitudes and behaviour when something significant in their lives pushes them to. The loophole in the story is that this transformation is not shown convincingly - all because of a rushed end.

Reason he didn't oppose Shaurya strongly or disassociate from him - he's a Goenka. He'll be killed and his family will be tortured.
Reason why he had the guts to face jail and not the Goenka wrath - Shaurya is a Goenka. He'll somehow escape jail, even if punished, and he hoped he'll be saved too.
Reason why he helped Payal - he's a human, unlike Shaurya. He was never into the crimes, he had a conscience. He was good, jusf trapped in bad, nay, horribly dangerous company.
Reason why he didn't want anyone to know he had helped Payal - he's a human, scared for his own life. Yes, he was brave enough to help a girl escape with her dear life, but he was also human enough to be scared for his own life. He is tiny, in front of the mighty ruthless Goenka.

I always knew Rishi wasn't bad, just a commoner trapped in nets he could never escape from, unwillingly.

I'm not shipping Payal-Rishi for the record, and I do want him to be punished for covering up the crime. But a reduced sentence, and a positive word from Payal, he deserves. Strangely reminded of Snape here, hope I'm not aline.
"That I hide the best of you, Severus?"

S :NOBODY equals Snape, just saying. :)

@Anu disagree that because woman forgive easily they are treated badly. It is the choice a woman makes on whom to forgive and protect. A woman might be intelligent enough on whom to protect. But many woman make wrong choices for their own selfish needs that doesn't mean forgiving and protecting the right guy is not correct.
Sakshi was having a pretty decent family like. True Rajnath played along with her feelings and ditched her. She had the option of getting back at him by exposing the truth and making him bite the dust. But for her own selfish need she decided to kill her good husband and protected Rajnath's crime. That was a wrong way of protection.
Coming to Payal in a very traumatized situation a guy showed a drop of kindness to her and she gave a promise to him. If you place yourself in her position yes he may not be bold enough to come and admit things openly as he feared for his life, but he was humane enough to let her go. If he hadn't done that who knows how much more Shaurya and remaining 3 would have tortured her. So she will forgive him for helping her get out so that she didn't had to face that much torture. And again he had come back to protect her from kidnapping and torture from his 3 friends. If she is able to forgive a guy like Rishi she transforms him. Rishi is branded coward from both ends. Shaurya and co for not committing crimes and Durga and co for not being bold enough to admit the crime on time. The only person who does not call him a coward is Payal. Because all said and done she was the one who faced the trauma and it is to her his timely help mattered the most. And being thankful to him she did manage to finally bring a change in him as he finally agrees to take a stand for her in front of the court.

The reason why Rishi got the courage to help Payal now is because the Goenkas have lost a lot of their power and wealth.
Dev has more shares and position in the company, Basu is gone, so Goenkas political clout is gone, and as far as Rishi knows, Shaurya is still in a wheelchair.

If Rishi knew Shaurya is no longer disabled and can walk now, would he have the courage to go against his plan?
Hes damn scared of Shaurya and he shd be, as that one is a homicidal maniac!

@Pallavi Rishi is still afraid that is why he kidnapped Payal as he knew only that way. Even in wheel chair he is afraid of Shaurya.
It is after Payal tells him call Durga, he call Durga. Then slowly he gets the courage because then Aakash comes, Dev comes and Durga comes. He sees a clout coming in support of Payal so someway he too feel secured that if he speaks the truth after punishment he can have a better life.
But to atleast bring her to that place he mustered some courage. If not Shaurya his other 2 friends can walk. Also he knows about the Russian shooter. If Shaurya knows of betrayal he knows Shaurya will somehow manipulate someone to kill him.
We cant blame Rishi just like that. He is a human being and that's why I said he need both financial and psychological support for rehabilitation post punishment( I am strictly against the idea of pairing him with Payal, if anyone thinks this post of mine is indicative of that. It is not)

Yes, his punishment shd be reduced because he saved Payal from being kidnapped again, Durga herself will probably recommend that as shes grateful to him for saving Payal.
Of course we dont want him paired with Payal. But who knows if the writer is planning to do that...you never can tell with this writer.
But my point is, NOW Rishi feels secure in telling the truth to Durga and Dev as they are also Goenkas but the good ones.
2 yrs ago, he didnt have the guts to tell the truth to Nitya as she was just a driver's daughter and couldnt have helped him in any way to escape the wrath of the maniac.

Yaa I understand that. People have to be supported to speak truth. That maid Ketki was another example. She didn't come out during original trial fearing the wrath of Goenka's. She has seen what Raima did.
But in her own way she assuaged her conscience when she spoke only truth to protect Dev. Her testimony actually saved Dev that day which she did only after hearing he was trying to reopen Payal rape case.
We cant expect people to go against wealthy and mighty just like that. Everyone is afraid of their life as well as their dear and near ones. Even we might take an easy route when faced with difficult choice in the absence of support.
That's where people like Nitya excel. For going on fighting without any support. Neither financial nor emotional. She was the pillar of support for entire family. Today Durga is much stronger because not only because of financial support but the emotional support she got from Dr Dayal, then currently from both Aakash and Dev. There are people behind her.

@Shruthi,
This serial raises the question, would Durga have succeeded this far in destroying the Goenkas if she didnt have the wealth and social position of Dr. Dayal Thakur and Dev to help her?

Would people like the maid and Rishi have spoken the truth or helped Payal/ Dev if Durga wasnt a Goenka bahu and also a wealthy girl herself?

Does that mean that common people, those without money or power can never win a war against terrible injustice?

@Pallavi I have asked this question myself what if you don't have wealth, power etc..I was feeling bad about thinking cant a common man get justice. And to get answer to my question I did turn to mythology and lo and behold the answer was there.
First let us take Ramayana. Sita is abducted by Ravana. Even for her search Ram had to strike an alliance with Sugreeva killing bali. The search as well as the support for crossing the ocean along with the army for figting the war is given by Sugreeva. So Ram did had to strike an alliance with Sugreeva for the final victory. 2 nomads Ram and Lakshman were no match for Ravan. Even in the end of Ramayana war if you see Lord Indra sends his chariot to Ram to make it a fight of equals. So Gods also help because they also want Ravan to be defeated.
Now let us take MB. If you see post Varanavath Pandavas have no identity till Panchali puts the varmala for Arjun. They come back to claim their throne after getting a ally in Panchal king post marriage. Again they create alliance with Virat king using marriage. Abhimanyu son of Arjun marries uttara daughter of virat king. So to fight the mighty Kauravas Pandavas also create alliance with like minded people. Even Krishna is part of the alliance as in real terms Krishna is Pandavas cousin.
So what I understood is that to fight a war against wealthy and mightly you have to create alliances. You cannot fight a battle of unequals. Nithya could have fought. But instead of taking head on she should have thought about creating alliances. Should have tried to dig out people who had grudge against Goenka's. Should have approached NGOs who are working for the cause etc etc.. than expecting everyone to be truthful.
Even if you look at Dev he was a non entity till he got Durga's varmala. It is by getting a support of Dr Dayal he finally comes to reckon. So in fight of justice or whatever I believe it has to be that of equals and that is clear from mythology. If you feel fighting an unequal battle find ways to make it a equal battle than blindly take head on.

Pallavi and Shruthi, you have raised very valid questions and observations, something that has been nagging me too all along!

Agree with the need for alliances with the right people.
It is naive to believe that one can take on the mighty just on the basis of their heart being in the right place.
One needs alliances, strategy, time, patience and persistence, a large dose of resilience and emotional strength and support to achieve this

That is why not everyone is a Durga . And she is admired .
And there are many Rishis we can recognise in society. And hence many can understand and empathise with his position.
