Its quite sad how till date, dark skinned girls people are looked down upon just because of their skin color. People like Sanjay's parents, who asked her parents to look for a divorcee/widower for Prarthna just cause she's dark..really? Does skin color really matter so much in today's world?

Bipasha Basu and many other actresses are dusky, yet they're known for their beauty. I am appalled to see that people are still discriminated on their skin color. This is a notion that needs to be removed from the minds of the general society.

I don't think there's anything wrong in being dark skinned. We're blessed with the skin we have, and we need to be accepted for it, and the world needs to accept us for it. I sincerely hope this discrimination towards dark skinned people dies out soon.

I just started watching this show and i love it so i'm catching up on the first few episodes, i think it's good that they are dealing with this topic, skin colour does not determine the person.
Personally i think the darker skin is really quite beautiful, it has a charm all of its own.

Yaaa you're right... we are blessed with the skin we've got and people should accept it!
This gets me soo angry that still, today in our society we discriminate against people with darker skin. It's just appalling to be honest!

Unfortunately discrimination against dark skinned do exist and mostly in India. Whatever is happening to Prarthana do happen with dark skin girls in reality. It has been proved always inner beauty is more important than outer beauty but still no difference in peoples attitude.

Thank you for all your replies!

Truly, something as atrocious as discrimination on the basis of skin color needs to be stopped like ASAP. In my opinion, it makes no sense. What's with the gora chitta all the time?

Its time we look at the person from the inside and not on the outside.

i totally agree with all of you and this very problem was depicted with Parul Chauhans character ragini. They gave the message beautifully in it. Hopefully the message is put across here just as well. im totally loving this show so far.

I agree as well. Its completely ridiculous to make any sort of judgement based on a person's skin color.. skin color has nothing to do with what the person is from inside.. i hope they convey this message to the society in a beautiful manner 😊

I am appalled by what I have seen on this show RE the discrimination of this girl based on skin colour!! It is truly disturbing to watch! I am a lighter skinned person but personally I think the dark skin is VERY attractive! I have a cousin who is dusky and I love her colour. I also think that actresses like Bipasha, Deepika, PC and Rani are not that fair skinned?

So if BW stars are accepted then the greater society should embrace this look too! It is a joke that even today women are judged on such superficial things like colour!! I guess for girls who have to marry through family connections it is even worse coz guys don't know them personally and just judge them on looks.

Even the character "Nikhat" in the show "Qubool Hain", faced some issues due to her darker skin, but the guy in question is very into her! It is the tacky Mother that has the issues! I think Archana Taide that plays the role is beautiful!!

I hope these shows help to change these archaic attitudes. It is only in Asia that everyone wants to be fair? I live in the West and here everyone wants to be tanned!! Ironic really!

Same goes with me! I'm on the lighter side but I have dusky friends and I think they're some of the most beautiful people I have ever come across! Nikhat in QH, Madhav/Prerna in DKNSK and Prarthna here; the society's view towards them is barbaric to say the least! Why are we being so age-old and ridiculous in our beliefs when it comes to dark skinned people!

Its a horrible desi mentality, esp in India. I've lived abroad all my life (elsewhere in Asia) and no one is frowned upon here, regardless of their ethnicity. Preposterous I tell you.

Thanks for your comment!
