Taking my cue from Amri's comment, let me start by saying: I'm Team ShraMan all the way...
Not Team Sumo, not Team Shravan. There are days when I strongly want to pick a side, but in the end, I don't. Because these two are meant to be together, so if there has to be a team, it has to be Team ShraMan! J
So if the question is: "Ladki kya kya kare?" I'd say, "Baat Karein!" Give voice to her feelings and her troubles. She can't just wish the problems away, can she? She cannot expect that if she chooses to turn a blind eye or a deaf ear to Kamini's complaints or Mami's expectations, she can go on with her life as usual - No she can't. And that's part of growing up and taking responsibilities. There are multiple POVs that you have to consider, and then place them in the context of real concerns - in this case, money - and then DISCUSS it like a grown-up with other grown-ups! Problems-Potential Solutions...
What is she doing instead? Sumo is listening to people's demands, and ASSURING them that everything will be done their way. And then, the girl turns around and nixes everything. If she doesn't share the money issue with her family, they will be forever under the impression that all's well. She's finding it difficult to arrange money for everything, but she's just one person! If the entire family gathers around the problem, there will be that many sticks to beat it down with.
I agree all of Kamini's demands are ridiculous and should be shot down at the first opportunity. But Sumo is not doing that, is she? Not in front of Kamini, and not even at home. She's only trashing them in her own thoughts. But she does not operate in vacuum - there are other people around whose lives are being/will be impacted by her decisions. So she needs to speak to them about it, right?
About the self-respect angle, I have no problems with her perspective there. Of course, she can't take help from Ramnath (in all his evil glory) or even Shravan (god bless him J)...
If Sumo is wrong, it's only in her handling of the shaadi scenario. The poor, poor girl has been pushed into a very tight corner, has hardly any choices. And she's being awfully brave about it; if Shravan knew the whole story, he'd be so proud of his girl... BUT she can't tell him... However, she can tell her family about the money troubles, and she should. Because she needs their help in tackling this bear...
