An episode of super significance juxtaposed in a restaurant setting...What did it dish out? Food that was hard to digest...nay some raconteur's tale...If a story can unsettle what if it were indeed true? Are some truths hitting home too close for comfort? Some unpalatable truths that are hidden in the depths of the years gone by...
"You never stop loving someone
You either never did or you always will"
That is the truth of true love...
"Those have the most power to hurt us, that we love".
A contemplative Shravan sits at the restaurant having witnessed a facet of Sumo, hitherto unknown. Has Sumo really changed so much? Her maturity in dealing with his last brush with pain, is perhaps just fresh in his mind. The child woman issues a challenge, telling him he still does not know her as he claims. Could she be right? She asked him to reveal something that she does not know about him. A pensive Shravan hesitates for just a moment before accepting the deal. Then SUMO EXPRESS hits him full force!! It came unannounced, perhaps like always...u know it will come but you can't ever be prepared for it!!
His first expression when she hides...confusion then exasperation...Sumo's antics which is he is so used to!! Then when she sushes him pointing to some man, his anxiety had begun to make its first appearance even though he was keeping it in check by asking her to come out with it. He listens with growing concern as Sumo talks about her fascination for a man...this was not the madcap Sumo, describing some nondescript Jeevan. This was a Sumo looking like never before. His full-blown anxiety causing him to be curt with her while she fumbled with the chopsticks. Then the expression of absolute devastation that Sumo was professing love for a man in his presence. Gathering courage, since he is a glutton for punishment, asks her softly, are you not over him yet? The look of pure misery when she, the woman who life's passion is food, tells him she can forget a recipe but not Jairaj. How much more worse could it get? Then Sumo spins a tale, something she is so well known for...tells him this was a taste of her story telling skills. That knowledge gives him no relief, on the contrary it gives him more cause for anger. Suffice to say, he had lost his appetite. He is no mood for any pleasantries, the date has come to an end as far as he is concerned, the joke if she thought it was one had already gone too far and he is not ready for any more humour. With his curt tone, he tells her, he was done for the day and that he was not indulging her sweet tooth.
Having sufficiently recovered at the parking lot, he was able to throw a cultivated air of indifference when she told him "I know why was your mood off!"as if to say nothing significant had happened. Sumo then makes that telling remark " I know you did not like the story i just related" Ah the penny dropped. Shravan is struck by the blandness of that statement. ..how dare she know things even his own heart refuses to tell him? Is it true that he did not like the story she related or did he not like it that she knows that he did not like the story she told? Why did she stand there with her towering presence while he stood razed to the ground? What is this power this woman has that makes him transfixed as she looks at him pleased with the knowledge she has?
His homeward journey I would have liked to see but then we get a glimpse of Shravan replaying the miserable parts of the evening in his overwrought mind. Shrugging off, he walks into the sofa...How can it be placed here, he asks? Of course, how indeed? The writer makes a very interesting point through this scene. Shravan's loss of bearings when his loved ones are in conflict with him.
Then comes from a tete-a-tete with his brother. His brother sets off expressing his feelings of hurt after a date gone awry. Did u say a date gone awry? Well, Shravan was not even on a date...but the eve had gone awry for him too...How so? His brother holds forth he had a meal with a friend so how could it have gone wrong? Anyways, what was wrong for his bro...Shravan empathises but Pushkar is in no mood to be placated, Shravan has yet not seen any similarities in their day yet Pushkar mentions the one thing that gets his complete undivided attention. When you love someone, their being with other friends can also cause hurt... a verbalisation of Shravan's feelings through Pushkar's mouth but are they on the same page yet? Not yet...I leave this convo a bit open-ended...several meanings...
To my mind, it was not jealousy that is the byword in the episode. Jealousy is a very poor emotion to describe what he felt today. It was the POWER TO HURT...a realisation that this woman can spin a tale and move his world off its axis; she still has the power to hurt him with mere words...action has not even been considered. He did not have time to put the famous mask when she told him of her supposed love tale, when she told him it was a tale...it brought no relief...becos it was not the relief that he wished for...her tale had pierced the part he had buried the most. Did ever stop loving the person he claimed to have moved on from?
For Shravan, today Sumo was the girl who told him a flippant tale when Shravan asked him about the note in the library. However, there are some noteworthy differences and similarities in the situation. The years had been pushed back but newer nuances had been added to those rolled back memories...Would Shravan have noted the newer nuances?
Super episode...was wondering at the precap y'day if this will be a "jealousy" moment, wondering how it will fit into the scheme of things for Shravan was a man who has his mask on at all times. Have to thank Red for her wonderful explanation of emotional distance, obliteration, mask to help me understand how in a rare and sudden moment, the mask came off...for just that little while...writers have to be applauded for making that emotion so real. To make me realise the depths of Shravan's feeling as he stood forlorn...taking in the power of hurt as his friend beamed her 1000 watt smile...Years rolled back...back where he was..NAMIK U WERE SUPER BRILLIANT IN EVERY FRAME...👏👏👏
Friends, hope to get some perspectives..there is always a diff way of looking a scene...several interpretations...love to hear them too...
