Ek Duje Ke Vaaste, has, just in fifty episodes, managed to gather such a ahuge fan following and charm over so many hearts.
The concept of the show is very simple- Bachpan Ke Dost- Koi ruthe se, thode rukhe se aur kissi ka intezzar.
Yet this simple concept is portrayed so beautifully and so realistically, it blew my mind away.
The writing, the direction, the actors, even the costume designers and crew members, a huge applause for you guys. Thank you for bringing Shravan and Suman to life.
Ek Duje Ke Vaaste is, in its lifetime, going to set standards for other shows.
And I hope for it to be a catalyst for much needed change in the storylines of Indian Shows.
Keep blowing expectations, EDKV.
Keep setting the bar higher for yourself.
Happy 50 Episodes!
MY BABY HAS COMPLETED 50 EPISODES.
I need a moment.
*pulls self back together* Alright, here we go. Namik & Nikita, if you ever get to read this, just two words for you guys--thank you. (5 words if you add in what I hope you already know--we love you).
"Respect is earned. Honesty is appreciated. Trust is gained. Loyalty is returned."
I cannot say enough about why I love EDKV so much--from the way it's written, performed, shot, everything! And mind you this show manages to do so, despite working under the constraints of an 5x a week Hindi-TV drama mind you, which is just unreal! It's 3:46 am where I live, but in light of the 50th episode of this beautiful show dawning upon us within a few hours, there was no way I wasn't going to pour my feelings out and let the deserving people who give us the show we all love & cherish know how amazing they are! And all of this is because of the wholehearted & genuine RESPECT this show has earned from me (on a level that no other show has managed to do).
It's for the way I feel respected as an audience by its writers. Like finally an Hindi show that defies ALL the infamous tags associated with Indian-television, one that CONSISTENTLY exceeds our expectations. For giving me a male lead that has a brain and uses it, for all the right reasons. He can STAND UP to his family, but still manage to be respectful. He's still you're sexy angry-young-man but he ain't a grade A asshole. He's secure yet vulnerable at the same time. He has his complexities, his flaws, yet the realistic way he approaches life despite all of that makes the character so genuine, so relatable, and so honest! It makes us feel like we can know these people, which makes me feel for him & the rest of the characters in this show far more than any larger-than-life (film/TV show) ever could! Shravan is just my favorite male lead ever, and I can't remember how that happened because it happened so fast-I think I realized that this happened after it already did. And I'm so glad it did. And RAMNATH AND SHRAVAN--I love them as much, in the same way I love Nanu & Suman. Just everything about this show, I feel like EVERY GODDAMN EPISODE this show gives me more reasons to love it, and affirms my old ones.
I'm not used to this much respect as an audience from a Hindi show!
I just love this show's unabashed use of logic, it's skilled storytelling complete with foreshadowing and MacGuffins (The Crossword Dictionary, the letter, the Rubix cube) and character arcs and the conscious lack of OTT antagonists and just everything an audience deserves but almost never always gets. I love the way things in this show make sense, how everything in the end just..fits. But in a way you never could've imagined, but then after you watch it, you could've never imagined things happening any other way (the Urvashi-engagement track, the "fees," the Karela & Salon predicament).
The conflicts in this show, each character's individual reactions, and just overall the basic emotions the show highlights are all so convincingly grounded in reality.
Getting back to one (of the many) personal favorite duos of this show: Shravan & Ramnath, I just want to say a few quick words:
"Jab se hosh sambhala hai, aapko aaj pehli baar aankhein jhuka kar baat karte hue dekha hai." (Someone give these writers a GINORMOUS hug by the way).
I just love such father-child bonds like these where they're both secure enough to be vulnerable to each other and to call each other out on their bullshit. Because for the most part due to the way South-Asian culture is depicted (in our very own TV shows) such a bond is so rare, and for the writers & our two actors to display this important figure & relationship in Shravan's life without any OTT melodrama/excessive sappiness (yet still make it so real & poignant)--I think they deserve special recognition & applause. Namik, Satyajit Sir--🤗 & 👏.
Now coming to the soul of our show--ShraMan. Aside from the obvious, I love how the show's exploring the more understated dimensions of relationships through our beloved ShraMan, the way two people who love each other can fight with each other, but also for each other--even if it means going against the other (Suman asking Shravan to not show up for the hearing, for the sake of his family; Shravan still showing up regardless; "Kya zaroorat thi mujhe hero bana ne ki;" "Humari dosti se toh saste nahi the na tickets?")
The questions they pose for each other, the expectations they have of one another, the way they affect each other, the way they hold the power to hurt each other, it all just makes Shravan & Suman just that much more real for me.
And finally a few words about our beloved NiMik, who breathe life into our ShraMan.
Namik: Like I've said before, Shravan is not an easy character to get across and that is because Shravan is not completely "angelic" nor is he "menacingly evil." He is human, and like the rest of us he has multiple facets to his personality, all of which compliment each other. A character who at the end of the day is just trying to do the right thing amidst the ongoing battle between his brain & his heart, like the rest of us. And Namik brings out that very relatable "uljhan" of Shravan's so beautifully on screen, I swear Shravan would not be the character love so much today without Namik's skillful depiction of him. And I say that with confidence, not just because I'm his fan, but because I've genuinely feel I've seen this beautiful human being and determined actor grow from going back & watching his first shot in Qubool Hai to now. I love how he never takes his work for granted, and how he really loves what he does. I love how he has that hunger to always get better, even after the heaps of appreciation we all (very deservingly) send his way. And apart from that, as Sumo would say, it'd be an insult to seal the way he reaches out to all of us fans with a simple & meager "thank you." But I still hope he knows that we all love & appreciate him to the moon and back ❤️.
Nikita: This girl has consistently proved that she has such a wide range and manages to portray the each facet of Suman so convincingly! There's never a single false note in her performances, not a single moment where I feel like she was "acting." Suman is not your typical too-goody-goody-to-exist female lead, she's real, she's someone the audience can identify with. She screwed up really badly, but she also grew from that experience. She way she coped with the death of her parents. The fact that her love for Shravan is often understated yet still so deep. A relationship whose core & basis is NOT superficial (as I personally often end up finding to be the case between many other couples on TV & film). Everything about Suman makes you root for her, despite her flaws, and I'm glad we have our Niki (and Namik) to give us Suman (and Shravan) ❤️.
I'm just so proud to be a fan of this show, it deserves all the love & respect it can get. Congratulations on the completion of 50 episodes, wish you all & this show all the success!
