And truly, what a week that was...
In one word
OUTSTANDING!
👏👏👏
Just caught the episodes back to back, and am completely SPELLBOUND!
Especially the crescendo on which the week culminated...
Team EDKV, you can take a bow!
So many special moments...such lovely nuances...the complexity of human emotions...brought out with such seamless verity!
The directorial efforts were just top notch this week...the story progressed with definite intent and purpose...the dynamics of human relationships was on complete display...and finally, the most complex relationship of them all...
ShraMan and their journey!
So here goes...my take...on what stood out for me...
In the week that was...
- LOVED the note on which the week started...no melodramatic aftermath...some superb writing with Sumo's deep "Tum aaj kahan ho aur main kahan hu?" 👏 Heartfelt Cudos to the CVs for the innovative MU plot...completely justified the scarred Shravan, and his inability to "move on"! A true mirror that, of the callousness of one's teenage years, and most importantly, the power of words and their impact on the human psyche...truly intriguing, to say the least!⭐️ ⭐️⭐️
- A good insight into Ramnath's character...could turn out to be grey in the future...did not quite like his demeaning "Tumhari ma toh thi hi aisi"...impressionable teenage minds can be dealt with better!
- LOVED, LOVED, absolutely LOVED Pushkar's confrontation with Shravan!👏👏👏
Superb writing, Brilliant direction, and some very good acting by Namik and Ranjit👍🏼 Full marks to the CVs for not doing the cliched "Sumo" bone of contention between the 2 brothers...instead, the fragility of their equation came out beautifully to the fore!👏 Really liked how "Sumo toh dus saal" was simply left as a trail...
- Sumo's character sketch has EVOLVED beautifully this week, and Nikita was completely on top of her game! From start to finish this week, Nikita was spot on!👏 Loved her nuanced moments...as Sumo desperately tries to get a grip on herself when Shravan's true intent at the party becomes clear...to once again pitching the diffident Sumo just right, in the morning after the party...as myriad thoughts cross her mind, as it is business as usual for Suman in the kitchen, but with her world, having toppled upside down...Nikita got it just right!⭐️
A SPECIAL MENTION here CVs, for not going the hackneyed revenge drama way, with respect to Suman, post the reunion party fiasco...what ADMIRABLE maturity by Sumo on display to just consider her equation with Shravan a "closed chapter"! REFRESHING, indeed!⭐️
Sumo has truly come a long way, and how! 👏👏👏
- Simply LOVE the layers to Shravan's character, and Namik's ability to convey so much simply through his EXPRESSIONS! Namik is bloody good at them! 👏 This is Namik's strength area, and he should keep honing this skillset...will help set him apart, what with his other droolworthy attributes in tow!😉😳😃 Full marks to the CVs for depicting those subtle moments as to how much Sumo affects Shravan...be it at the breakfast table...or, during the thandai making sojourn...LOVED even more how Pushkar picked up those moments...and the 'exchanges' between the brothers therein! What a FANTASTIC way for the brother to play "Cupid"!👏
- Have some thoughts on Shravan's "non-heroic" behavior at the bus stand during Sumo's confrontation with the goons...prima fascie, Shravan's nonchalance seemed completely unacceptable...but, a deeper insight into Shravan's character and the complexity of the ShraMan dynamic gives it a welcome flavor...Liked how Shravan simply pulled up the car...stepped out...as if to just 'be there'...no heroic shenanigans...just a simple 'presence' as one of the goons himself pointed out!😆 Liked that miss and you blink it moment when Shravan leaned forward, took a step ahead, and yet, stopped...'cos he knew Pritha and gang were on their way!😃 Liked how the scene ended...when Pritha gave it to Shravan with the "chhaila jaise pose" piece😆 That's what I really, really like about EDKV...there's no right or wrong here...every character is justified...depending on the lens through which he/she views life...
- Would also like to appreciate here, the effort taken by the CVs to have etched out each and every character in blood and flesh...some quick examples that come to mind...
1. Preeti (Suman's cousin) "Main nail paint sukha rahi hoon" when asked to call up Suman before the US trip
2. Dabboo's "Aap chinta mat karna; phone laga rahein hain" to Preeti, in response to the above😆
3. Mami's "Jeete raho! Mujhe pata tha yeh ladki kabhi jhooth nahin bolti" to Suman, when she tells her Mami that she has arranged for the money😡
4. Vandy's "Wahan bahar kuch banana peels pade hain; unhe saaf kar lena"😆
5. Maasi's "Kya yahi batane aaye they" retort to Vandy and Kamini😛
6. Nanaji's "Suman kab se gaadi main baithke tum logon ka intazar kar rahi hai" just before leaving for the Holi party😊
Is truly PRAISEWORTHY!👏👏👏
- So, what else did I like...
LOVED, in fact, how Shravan and Sumo just walked past each other...with no exchange of words, WHATSOEVER, after Shravan comes to the Tiwari household to return Sumo's 45K
LOVED Shravan's perseverance in communicating to Sumo the "zaroori baat"...is a fantastic indicator of the ShraMan times to come!😃
LOVED the humane, sensitive and most importantly, righteous Shravan on display when he holds himself accountable for the 3 lakh to be paid off by Sumo. LOVED even more, how for Sumo, it was an onslaught on the all-important self-respect...once again, coming back to the core theme...the underlying message of EDKV...there's no right or wrong in human relationships...it's all about the "lens"😊
- And, FINALLY...saving the best for last...both literally and figuratively...
The "Hisaab Barabar" ShraMan face-off!
What an IMPRESSIVE creative spin to give to "Ma ke gehne", especially the significance of the FB (the FBs in EDKV are used extremely effectively, and the junior Shravan and Sumo are an absolute marvel!⭐️)
LOVED how Sumo and Shravan's entry in the Holi party was built up...
LOVED how Shravan moved his head aside expecting gulaal...he should have expected the unexpected though...he knew it was coming from Sumo!😆
LOVED, LOVED, LOVED the deeper connotation of the "hisaab barabar...hamesha ke liye" face-off!
For me this was no "hisaab barabar"...this to me, was the MIRROR to the real Sumo and Shravan
What a SPLENDID way to say it all
By saying nothing at all !
Team EDKV, you can indeed take a bow!
👏👏👏
My 2 cents on this MEMORABLE ShraMan "Hisaab Barabar" interlude...
- On the surface, it seemed that Suman had "settled scores" with Shravan in this game of one-upmanship that they both have been drawn into...
- But look a little beneath the surface, friends...have the "scores" really been "settled"?
- Sumo had to part with her Mom's jewellery, and all the memories associated with it. Sumo's Mom's jewellery was her most prized possession...Sumo "experienced" her Mom through it...the jewellery was a part of Sumo's IDENTITY!
- Shravan, took THAT away from her...a little bit of Sumo died, in that very moment...the sadness in her smile and the pain in her eyes, as the STOIC Sumo says "Hamesha Ke Liye"...was heart-wrenching for sure!
- Shravan too knew it all...and, he REALISED it and how! The gulp of his throat, the fixed unwavering gaze, the unsettled expression, and finally, that tear which he wiped away...a little bit of Shravan also died in that same moment...Shravan had completely REALISED it !!
👏👏👏
So what, "Hisaab" friends, what "Barabar"??!!
Definitely, the brittleness of human emotions on display...
As Suman and Shravan pick up the pieces
And continue their journey
Called
"Ek Duje Ke Vaaste"
Effusive words of praise here, for both Namik and Nikita in this piece! They were simply SUPERLATIVE!
Will go down as one of my all-time favourite ShraMan moments, for sure!
👏👏👏
So much for my musings
Of the Week that was...
Indeed, what a Week that was!
😃
Cheers!
