A better scene would have been him feeling a pang seeing Sumo being so distant from him but him still not acting so surprised that she would do it.....agar waise type ke parent hain ki bacchon ko nasamajh hi samajhna hai toh then why even expect Sumo to become normal with him so quickly?

This just shows that he's been too used to always having Sumo agree with him and listen to him on everything and he couldn't handle her disagreeing and showing her hurt over that disagreement. That was very short-sighted of him....he really is mostly a rigid man who just wants things his way.

The whole epi was built around stuff that Sumo is supposed to feel guilty over after his death....like her not saying a proper bye to him, like her getting his email after his death....but to me, the fact that Vijay was shown acting so obtuse was what made these things fall flat...I couldn't feel the pathos as much as I would have otherwise.

Oh okay. So a sudden "behavioral" expectation from Suman to give him the smile & hug that he would expect when he's off to his job as if nothing happened. So expecting Suman to behave in a particular manner ki woh Vijay ki haan mein haan milaye.

Sorry😆I was just ranting about how I wished a proper communication scene wouldve sufficed the khamoshi that shown today in their relationship & he had given an opportunity to understand from Suman's POV for once.

Yep this exactly....that is what it came across as today. That he just wanted her to fall in line with whatever he says and not even feel bad about it.

This is probably because she has pretty much blindly done whatever he's asked all her life...that whole "soldier" motto of following orders....but dude, she's not your soldier, she's your DAUGHTER before that. The fact that Vijay didn't get that....I don't know if it was deliberate or they just never fleshed out his character to that point and just wanted to put in a token scene showing him questioning why Sumo isn't being normal with him.

Anyways, I guess it irritated me so I ranted....baaki toh story will move forward to tragedy tomorrow so I guess none of this will matter in the larger scheme of things😆

Hmm, interesting. Never thought of this because probably we might've looked from perspective that Vijay should've given a thought to listen to Suman's POV for once instead of stereotyping ki its not the age that he feels she should be distracted by shravan when she's at the age where she has the right to explore new careers, new perspectives, love/emotional/psychological support followed by ki he questioning to anjali what he did in his view was correct fir b apni marzi thopna. Hence kind of a caricature thing for him to do.

They make them all sound like robots who can't think rationally beyond the Army....aise thodi na hota hai.

Yes I meant her whole lifestyle should not be centred around focusing on the army career. There should be some work(or studies) and life balance. She is still an ideal cadet in the making.

And you are right they are sounding like robots.

I think the creatives just want to show extremes one family wants to send their son to USA temporarily the other want to serve the country and stay in India.
though dadu still seems to think that the only way to serve the country have a disciplined approach is to join the army

Devraj wanted Shravan to go more than Shravan himself wanted to go after Suvan confessed their love. Not Kavita

I'm not going to get into the episode overall today, but there is one specific part of the episode that I'd like to talk about.

When the episode started , I was having this very heavy feeling, about Vijays death and his last conversation with his daughter. But as the episode progressed it really did not impact me the way I thought it would.

I got that this was supposed to be Vijay's long drawn goodbye to Sumo, which is why the scenes were mostly being shown from his perspective....him looking around Sumo's room, him feeling bad about her not being normal with him etc. etc. but in the process, the writing definitely papered over some issues for convenience.

What got revealed to me as I was watching all his scenes today was just how regimental his whole mindset is.....he only seems to view Sumo as a cadet who must become an officer since that is her destiny....not even once did I hear a peep from Vijay about Sumo's emotions, her thoughts even when he's seen her in this kind of turmoil for the first time in her life.

In the beginning he did ask Anjali if Sumo is alright. I also liked the way he talked about his perspective and saying Sumo will not understand him today but after some years i hope she would.

As a father, shouldn't your first thought be about your child's pain? I get his protectiveness as a father...and that's totally fine...but the fact that not even a thought or moment was spared for him to even REFLECT over Sumo's emotions, not even a little wondering over why his child might feel the way she does....that definitely was a let down. He literally shunted the entire incident aside quickly as some minor aberration on Sumo's destined path to the Army. This is a problematic part of Sumo's upbringing....yes, discipline is important but the level to which the whole family seems to have robotically programmed her to view the entire world only as a goal towards Army is flawed....and the flaws are coming to fore in this phase.

The car scene is where I lost connect. How on earth did he expect Sumo to smile at him and give him a hug? His thought process should be, my daughter is so hurt that for the first time ever she has not bid me a proper goodbye! As you said from here on he is just getting sad that his cadet did not bid him goodbye and it stretches a lot. As far as Sumo goes she was not rude, she was just letting him know that she is not happy with his decision. You get most hurt by the people you love the most and they don’t try understanding you or give you a chance.

Now Vijay is about to die so obviously that leaves his character on a tragic note....but I still could not find myself in alignment with his viewpoint today...to me, it was problematic to see a father only view his daughter as a cadet who must fall in line with what he dreams for her. They only seem to be able to communicate with each other in Army metaphors....but there is life beyond that and sadly Vijay didn't seem capable of viewing his daughter through that lens. That is part of the tragedy he will leave with.

I just found it odd that Vijay actually expected that the daughter he saw crying so badly yesterday should suddenly be normal with him the next day as he's sending her away to Pune? For real? lol....that this is the level of expectation from Sumo that she never feel the human emotions of hurt and disappointment and always fall in line with whatever daddy says to "normalize" in an instant. Ajeeb hai.

Word to the entire bit! It is lol worthy

This is a tale of two fathers in a sense....one (Vijay) who was excessively proud of his child to the point of being blind to everything but the ambition he chose for her....and the other (Devraj) who was excessively harsh on his child many times, unable to see his potential. They both lacked a level of communication with their children despite attempting to be their friends.

Wow the way you put this, just puts everything in a nut shell.

Anyways, the stage had to be set, so it has been....and it will still be very sad to see Vijay's character passing....but I still think it's worth noting the flaws in his character that led to the issues at hand.

Oh I loved the actor, will miss him immensely:) Also Vijay the mentor and also Sumos dad will be missed.(

Precap: It was painful to watch ..... 💔 For Sumo, this will be soul crushing:(

Lol , I felt the exact same thing. I was so dreading to watch this episode, and watching first scene I was tearing up and in my mind I anticipated the whole episode. I guess the problem is always expectations 😆

So instead of being able to dwell on him being an emotional father feeling sad that his daughter is being distant with him, I was mostly left feeling disconnected from his character and in some ways it just felt like he was going through the motions. This is not reflective on the actor obviously....Anurag Arora has been great in this role but today, Vijay just seemed disconnected from the story of the last two epis and I wish it hadn't been that way....I wish the build up had continued on the emotions of the last two epis in sync.

I wish they would have continued with him knowing that he has taken a harsh decision and felt sorry for it. But he did what he thinks is the best as a dad. But the whole thing changed into why she did not hug me and smile at me like usual.. lol and meri beti papa ka naam roshan karegi, usko proud karegi thing🤔

Just adding even one brief scene of Vijay reflecting about all that Sumo had said to him would have added so much more pathos to this upcoming tragedy more than this scene of him walking around her room and once again repeating the same lines of "meri favorite cadet, tumhein officer banna hai" etc. etc.

This is the problem they seem to have a complex ke bas army hi sab kuch hai and everybody and everything else is kharab and not worthy pehle sirf daddu hi yeh behavior display kar rahe thay but the way vijay has brushed every desire of suman under the carpet is really.uss bechari se bache hone ka haw hi cheen lia. Yeah suman has always been an obedient child and their every word has been patthar pe Lapeer for her but that doesn't mean ke woh bechari ek robot hi hai. This is literally the first time she dared to go out of the army discipline and she got this treatment no leeways .also plz army ka matlab yeh nahi hota ka aap baaki sabse uppar honand baaki sab na desh ke liye kich karte hain na apne liye. That thought process is so exaggerated now ke aur toh insaan hai hi nahin na
