Part 4
Tejal wore a knee-length, sleeveless royal blue gown which had a halter-neck design. The back of the gown was string-tied. She straightened her hair and wore chain-like earrings. She didn't put on any necklace but wore a shiny crystal wristlet on her left hand. After dressing up, she sat in front of the mirror and applied make-up on her face. She got ready and admired herself in the mirror. "Have I overdone my look? What will Vaibhavi think of me?", she thought while staring at the mirror. "Let her come and then I'll ask her. Why to get tensed till then!".
She made a glass of juice for herself and sat on the sofa watching TV. She flipped through the channels while sipping the juice. She stopped across an entertainment channel where a fashion show was being covered. The background of the stage was beautifully lighted and the music was enchanting. An idea instantly flashed across her mind. She smiled and thought to suggest this thought to Vaibhavi when she came.
After watching TV for a few more minutes, she looked at the wall-clock. It was 8:45 pm. She went to keep the juice glass in her kitchen when the doorbell rang. She washed her hands and went to open the door. She opened the door and saw Vaibhavi was busy untying her stilettos. "Tejal, are you rea'", her voice died as she looked up from her own feet.
"My God Tejal.. Is this you? You?? You look ..", Vaibhavi suddenly discovered that she was getting short of expressions and rummaged around her vocabulary.
"A bit overdone??, I know", Tejal smiled knowingly and stepped aside the door.
"NOO..", Vaibhavi exclaimed as she made her way inside the door. "You look ravishing my dear sister. "Its just that I'm not getting the exact words to describe your present look".
"Chal chal.. It'll be better if you keep your bad dramas to yourself", Tejal snapped smiling. "And by the way, forget me. You are looking stunning too Vaibahvi. I am getting suspicious if you are really planning for a dinner with me or a date".
Vaibahvi was wearing a low-cut knee length sleeveless black evening gown. Her hair was left open and she was wearing sleek designed jewelries.
"No my dear! I'm planning for a dinner date with you only. But "Starline" is a 5-star hotel Tejal. We cannot go there looking like commoners. And moreover today is the weekend night bash party. Its gonna be so much fun. I'll take you to the underground discotheque too. And I already told you about the live band performance. It's gonna be so much fun. Come on.. Let's go", Vaibhavi's voice trickled excitement.
Tejal: "Hmm.. But tell me I'm not looking like a clown na? With lots of paint on my face?"
Vaibhavi: "No yaar. Ab chal bhi.."
She pulled Tejal out of the room. Tejal grabbed her purse while moving out. They went downstairs and sat in the car. Vaibhavi started the car.
"Tejal, I really wonder how you manage your designing profession. On one hand you design mindblowing stylish clothes and jewelries and on the other hand, you yourself are so simple! Who'll tell you are a fashion designer at the first look? Rather you'll be mistaken as a strict college lecturer", Vaibhavi chirped while driving the car.
Tejal: "I don't believe that one has to lead a high-profile life if he is in a high-profile profession. My job is separate and my family life is separate. Besides, I don't think I need to put on make-up 24*7 and pose like a model at every point. I love staying simple. And I really don't care about people. They are used to judge books by the covers".
Vaibahvi: "Accha okay okay. Don't start your long lectures on feminism again".
They reached "Starline" at about 9:40 pm. The parking lot was almost full and many cars were still arriving. They parked their car and made their way through the entrance. Many young couples were roaming here and there. Most of them were making their way towards the discotheque. "Vaibhavi", Tejal shrieked suddenly. Vaibhavi was walking two steps ahead of Tejal. She stopped and looked behind to find Tejal staring at a banner hung near the entrance door.
She followed Tejal's stare and saw the banner was of the "Melody Starlets" band members. It was advertising today's performance. She came near Tejal. Tejal was gaping at the banner. "What happened Tejal? Why did you screech?", Vaibhavi asked surprisingly.
"Vaibhavi, see this guy", Tejal pointed towards a boy in the banner. "Aniket", she whispered. "What?", Vaibhavi couldn't hear properly.
"Aniket, Aniket", Tejal told with a low voice. "Aniket? Who Aniket?", Vaibhavi was not getting clear.
Tejal: "I told you about the guy I clashed with today morning, this one", she said with a kind of thrill.
Vaibahvi: "Is he? Whoa Tejal.. Lucky girl !! I'm going green now. He is so good-looking"
Tejal: "When is their performance Vaibhavi? I want to go right now"
Vaibhavi: "Wait wait dear sis.. let's have our food first. Come"
She almost pulled Tejal to the dining arena and sat at the table. They ordered their food and sat looking around them. A stage was set up and someone was performing "Tum ho toh, gaaata hai dil, tum nahi, to geet kahan" (Rock on) in a very slow pace.
Tejal: "Vaibhavi, You know what? I'm feeling good to be here. The environment here is so cool. I'm planning to be here every weekend".
Vaibhavi *(coughs)*: "Is this the magic of the environment around here or the environment at the entrance door??"
Tejal was busy observing a couple at their side table. Hearing Vaibhavi's comment, her head sprang back. She gave a cross look to Vaibhavi arching her brows. Vaibhavi was throwing back a mocking look to her. Their food arrived. Tejal ate quickly almost gobbling down everything.
Vaibahvi (eating slowly): "Tejal I can see your urge to go to the discotheque down there. But why are u eating like a bhookkad? Patience my dear. Your Aniket isn't running away. Infact he may be on his way here.."
Tejal: "I'm not dying to go to the discotheque. I was hungry".
Vaibhavi: "Hmm.. can see that", she mocked and continued eating.
After paying the bills the two made their way down towards the discotheque.
Reaching down, they were astounded by the atmosphere. It was an almost dark large ballroom with multicolored fluorescent lights hanging down here and there. A big stage was put up at one side. It was illuminated with alternately placed vertical lights. So many instruments were there on the stage. The bar counter was a long one. Nobody was single there in the dance floor. All the couples were shaking their legs with the DJ music and some were also drinking at the bar. Tejal was looking around her with twinkle in her eyes. Vaibhavi proposed to have a drink. They went near the bar and ordered a drink. As they were drinking, they heard a loud commotion. They looked back and the saw the people gathered in two rows in the middle of the dance floor. The "Melody Starlets" were entering the hall. All the people started cheering and whooping.
Tejal walked hastily towards the crowd. But before she could have a peek through the pack, the boys almost reached the stage. Everybody gathered near the stage. Tejal pushed the people, twisted and almost reached at the front-row near the stage. In all the hustle-bustle, Vaibhavi lost track of Tejal.
A beautiful lady dressed in party gown came to the stage. She was the anchor. She came and introduced the band first. Then she called upon the boys one by one. The public shouted and welcomed each of the band members. But it turned to a roar when Raghu and Aniket mounted the stage together at the end. Raghu took the mike from the anchor and addressed everyone. All shouted and cheered.
Raghu started the introductory performance with a popular bollywood number. Then there was a musical item composed of only guitars, pianos and drums. Now it was the turn of Aniket. He came and sang an exclusive composition of their band. The people were mesmerized with the song. After he finished, all hooted and clapped for him. Then again Raghu came. After him Aniket again. They gave duet performances too. The show went on for almost 2 hours. It was time for the last song.
The anchor lady came and announced that this was going to be a very special night for some lucky lady. Aniket will choose a random girl from the mass and she can dance with him during the last song. The ladies cheered. "Aniket me", "No mee", "me me", were the only words which filled up the arena. On stage, Aniket took the mike, "Thank you ladies. I'm really thankful to you for all your attention. So, who wanna share the stage with me?"
"Meee...", the ladies shouted.
Aniket: "Okay.. Now I'll call upon someone.. Ummm'"
He tried to look through the audience. They were not visible enough for him to identify for that part was not enough lighted. But he spotted a royal blue dress somehow. "Mam, would you plzz join me?"
The cheering stopped. The people went dead silent. A bright round spotlight fell upon the girl. The girl was surprised and the listened to the ladies around her, "Aww", "Why she?", "No, he could have taken me", "Lucky girl", "Oof, I was just beside you" etc etc.
On stage, Aniket was telling, "Mam, plzz come on stage, I am waiting".
The girl went towards the stage. The spotlight was following her. She went by the side of the stage and ascended the stairs. Aniket was standing in the centre of the stage-floor. As the girl climbed the stairs and walked towards him, his breath stopped for a second. He gaped at the girl with awestruck eyes. As she came near him, he wanted to speak but suddenly couldn't find words.
The girl smiled nervously "Hi Aniket".
"TEJAL?? You?", finally he sighed a breath of relief being able to find words.
Tejal: "Hmm.. Did u see me in the crowd?"
Aniket: "No, but I think today it was my day with you. We met in the morning and now the night is ending with us. And, u look, u look beautiful, I mean, stunning, no I mean, gorgeous, actually, I mean..."
Raghu approached them. "Aniket, mere bhai, chapar chapar baad me karna. Take this hands-free mike". He placed the mike in Aniket's ears and said hello to Tejal. Tejal nodded.
"Aniket, start the song, we are on", he said and moved away.
"Tu hai aasman me, teri ye zameen hai, tu jo hai to sabkuch hai, na koi kami hai, tu hi dil hai, tu hi jaan bhi hai, tu khushi hai, aasra bhi hai, teri chahat, zindagi hai, tu mohabbat, tu aashiqui hai, tu aashiqui hai", Aniket's lips moved. The tender music went with him.
He held Tejal's right hand with his left hand and twirled her near him. Her back crushed against his chest. He again twirled her and made her face him. She was nervously looking at him with sparkle in her eyes. Her lips were curled with a secret smile.
He entwined his fingers with hers, held her waist and pulled her more closer. He looked intently in her eyes. She was staring back at him too with equal fascination. He was singing more deeply now and felt that the song was coming out on its own. Tejal held him by his waist and was looking in his eyes. They swayed with the light music beats. They were so engrossed in each other that none of them realized that the music was over.
Aniket stopped singing but could not move his eyes away from her. She was already lost in him. Suddenly the loud cheers and claps burst in. They jerked out of their trance and left each other's hands. Both of them faced the audience. Raghu came and chirped in, "Whoa Aniket, that was absolutely magical. Even I didn't anticipate this last number to be so delightful. What's your name madam?", he turned towards Tejal.
"Tejal.. Tejal Wakharia", Aniket answered. Tejal opened her mouth but stopped when Aniket answered for her.
Raghu: "Arrey waah!! I asked whom and who is answering.. Un uhh!!"
"Ladies and Gentleman, here we come to the end of our today's party bash. Hope you all had a great time here. We thank the '", the anchor lady was back on stage.
Raghu called Aniket to join him for a small talk. Tejal descended down the stairs.
"Tejaaal, meri pyari behna", Vaibhavi ran like a small tornado and bumped into her. She hugged her with full force. "Vaibhavi, leave me.. I'm running out of breath", Tejal gasped.
"Tejal Tejal Tejal, tell me.. Which God you offered your prayers before coming to Ahmedabad? I am going to offer my prayers to the same God", Vaibhavi teased.
Tejal: "Shut up Vaibahvi, it all happened by chance".
Vaibhavi: "By chance? Tejal!! I can understand one by chance. But two two "by chances"? That too within the same day?? I am saying, there is some connection between this Aniket guy and you. Match my words afterwards".
Tejal: "Shall we go and have another drink Vaibhavi?"
Vaibhavi: "Whatever u order madam.. Today is your day. Come", she smiled.
They went near the bar and ordered another round of drinks.
So, how was it?? A like or comment would be appreciated... 😳
