She watched him sleep. Who was this man that seemed to play a double role in her life? Sometimes the villain and sometimes the saviour. He confused the hell out of him, but still there was something about him that grabbed at her, that made her wonder if there was more to him than met the eye. Why was it that she felt he pretended to be something he was not? Or was that the meek woman in her trying to find justification in her husband's behaviour? If that were to be the case, then she would be no different than the hundreds of women that were beaten every day.
She saw Baba rushing up to her, she had phoned them as soon as the doctors had informed her that MJ had gone into a coma, hoswever, there was no reason for him to go in the coma. According to them, and what she had understood, he had because of the hit to the head fainted, however, he should have come back, but he had gotten locked up somewhere and was refusing to come back. When a person became like this they refused to come back until the body and mind was ready to do so. This had left Tara frazzled. What could have made him become like this? She explained everything to Baba.
Jairaj, sank to the floor, his son had already seen enough in life, why did he have to have all the problems falling his way? How much had he tried to save his son from all the problems that seemed to be hell bent on falling on him? How would he get his son back now?
Tara sank down next to Baba. "Baba, please don't be sad, we will bring him back together".
"Tara Bahu, why? Why always him? What has he ever done to anyone? All he wanted to ever be was happy and to be loved. How was I to know that saving him from one hell would throw him in another one?" he said brokenly.
Tara wiped her Baba's cheeks and placed her head against his shoulder. "don't worry Baba, me and you together will bring him back. I promise you, we won't allow him to be left like this".
Baba placed a hand on her head blessing her. He got up and went to the doctors and demanded he be allowed to take his son home as soon as possible.
A few days later MJ was home, he was taken home via ambulance and placed in his room. "Tauji watched from a distance and smiled a evil smile, at last things were falling into place, he deserved exactly what he got, Tauji thought to himself, what had he thought, that he could get the information on him and destroy him? His threw his head back to laugh and glimpsed Tara behind him.
Tara watched Tauji and was surprised by the look in Tauji's face, she had seen that look somewhere before but where? And why had Tauji been grinning when he was looking at MJ? How could he have been so cruel as to behave like this? Admittedly he was not his real nephew, but still a person should have some morality.
Tauji fixed his features and walked quickly past Tara ignoring her.
Tara went into the room and looked at MJ.
"What secrets do you hold? This whole house is full of secrets. But you...there is something about you that pulls me towards you, but I cannot understand it. I have seen what you are, but my heart, it cannot accept what I see? Why?" but she knew he would not answer, he lay motionless and her eyes filled with tears. How do I get answers?
"Run Tara run, it's not safe for you here"
Tara had been turning away and looked back shocked. "your awake?" but MJ stay motionless. Had she just thought she heard him say to run? What the hell had just happened? She moved closer to him, but he lay, ever so still. She had heard him say those words had she not? He had said for her to run, that it was not safe. Or was she wrong? How could he speak if he was in coma?
Worried she ran to the laptop and typed in, can people in coma speak? But nothing came up, all that was written was that this was not possible. So then who had she heard?
Shaking she got up. She would have sworn it was him speaking. But he was there, motionless. Maybe it was her overactive imagination playing games with her once again, or maybe it was her heart trying to tell her that nothing was as it seemed in this house.
There was a knock at the door, looking over she saw the nurse had come to administer the injections. She moved away and went to get into her night clothes. As she went towards the bathroom she saw MJ's door shut. But that was strange. Who would go to his darkroom? It could not be Baba as he had gone out with the doctor, and no one else entered his darkroom.
She started to slowly walk towards the dark room, she felt her heart race, but still she wanted to get to the bottom of it. She went to the door and turned the handle and yelped. Tauji was coming out of the dark room, he also jumped backwards, and he looked scared. Why the hell was he looking scareed?
"Tauji what are you doing in MJ's dark room?" asked Tara suspiciously.
Tauji stammered "I was looking for one of my files, but I cannot find it. Remember that file that you wanted to give me? But MJ said he has some work to do on it, but God knows where that useless boy put it". Saying so he rushed off.
But Tara's alarm bells had gone off. Why had he not asked for that file from her? She would have given it. She looked into the dark room, thre had been a hurried search in the room, something was wrong. It did not make sense for Tauji to suddenly start searching for a file as soon as MJ was ill. What the hell was going on in the house?
But she knew where the file papers were, she had kept them safe. She was not stupid enough to have given them to Tauji, she had only wanted to punish MJ. She now had to see those papers. But it took her nearly four hours before she could return back to the room, by that time it was midnight and she for a second wondered if she could be bothered to find out what was going on. But then tired, she just wanted to fall into bed.
She lay down on the sofa, but once again heard that voice, "run, run it is not safe for you here"she jumped up, grabbing her throat, this was earily weird, why was she hearing things? What was going on. Gulping she got up and looked around. Finally she decided that maybe it would be a smart idea just to have a look at the damn file.
She went through a pile of folders and picked up the one that said bills. From between the bills she found the file and sat down to read. But what she read left her astounded, and what she saw had her blood run cold.
