DISCLAIMER: This post is not related to any particular actor, you can believe that Mohit Malik portrays his negative role perfectly fine, without justifying his acts as a character, so please do not take this personally as an attack against your fav actors.

After watching today's episode, I can safely say I have decided to never watch this show again. The amount of male misogyny and patriarchy is literally disgusting, within the context of this show. I don't care how or what people will say to justify the character of Samrat.

If we believe in fighting for the rights of women and other marginalized groups, we have to realize that it's not about just keeping your attitude in check but verbalizing the misogynistic images, symbols that are circulated by various political and social institutions, one is which the media.

First off, people are gushing and gooing over how hot the actor is, i don't understand, does being hot justify being emotionally abusive to one's wife, and threatening physical abuse like he did today. He literally said to Urmi, "today I've told you nicely, but next time I have other methods," what does that imply? Next time you will punch her. He literally said that only I have the right to speak in this house and how dare you speak back to me at all, and told his friend Ishaan this is what "real men are like."

UUMMM EXCUSE ME?! What does this support, not only does this support the patriarchal culture all around the world that justifies abuse, rape, murder, torture of women because that is how "REAL MEN ACT." This is disgusting, and I cringe thinking of the women who justify this by being like Urmi shouldn't have done that/Trisha deserved it or whatever, I AM SORRY but nothing justifies being a misogynistic pig and emotionally abusing someone.

YES he may have gone through hard times, but let's just center men's experience of hardships at the forefront and therefore justify their actions? So because they went through hard times it's okay to give someone else a hard time? And how long will we keep doing this, justifying violence for violence?! Like there are many people who go through hard times, will we excuse all their actions by stating that they went through horrible times.

This man, today, Samrat, literally justified his behaviour by saying words that abusers have said to those they have abused. And as a former victim of abuse I refuse to watch this, not only does it trigger memories, it's insensitive to those of us who know these people usually don't change, who have suffered abuse, and let me guess, in the end he will become good and we will totally forget all of this happened.

And i suppose women supporting this character would be okay having a husband such as him? I am sick of this show, and the female lead is weak, as usual, but THIS STILL DOES NOT MEAN it is OK, yes we need more strong female leads but this doesn't mean because she is weak WE PUT THE ONUS ON HER TO STAND UP. WHY ARE WOMEN CONSTANTLY BEING TOLD TO CHANGE THEIR BEHAVIOUR. That's the same as rape culture, you should cover up and go out, not that men should control their lust.

Just down with this patriarchy!

@ CanadianAddict ... You have echoed my thoughts 👏 👏!!!! There's absolutely no justification for that type of behaviour ... don't care how "hot" he is, he is nothing more than abuser!!! That's the way insecure and weak men try to prove that they are strong... ! No woman should have to take that sort of treatment ... !!!!

Thank you Indi! Yea and I agree, he feels the need to establish himself by bringing others down. And yes, people are like Urmi needs to stand up without realizing a lot of women are taught and have internalized to treat their husbands with utmost respect.

@CanadianAddict, I agree with your points, but I for one think this is a great show and it's showing the reality and and portraying it very much in a realistic manner.
The question is whether they are telling a love story, or a story of a girl who finally takes a stand and moves on from this.

For me, she needs to move on, because anything other than her leaving him and moving on would be validating all the regressive lines spouted both on the show by many of the characters, as well as some of the thinking on how Urmi should change Samrat.

How can one make a show concerning a topic, if they don't show the ugliness of the topic? The question is whether they validate all this ugliness and regressive thinking, or they have an ending telling us such views should not be validated and women shouldn't be expected to stick to such marriages.

As for Urmi, her actions are realistic. See what her grandmother did. Girls go through this every day with their family telling them to adjust and stick it out, and make the marriage work. So again, I say, it's not a problem that they show Urmi still defending Samrat and acting a blind fool. The question is where this all leads. That is what will deem whether or not this show is regressive and misogynist.

P.S. I too am down with the show. But my usage of the term differs to yours.😆 I commend this show and think the makers are doing a great job so far, and look forward to watching it every day.

According to me.. a man's softness and manners and how he actually treats women are the first thing that attract and not his hotness. Hotness is just for eyes .. for few moments .. I guess it i same as it goes for girls ..

Such a lovely post. 👏. You have told every thing. But this show is show casing those type of men, which are in this society and women are living with them from time immemorial.
But this show is showing what a women dreams and what is the reality. If you see a show where show is completely domestic violence and abusive husband, who treats women as shit, and director names it as pyaar.

How rediculous just imagine, forum members think it's hot pair and support all nonsense shown their just because it's hot pair. This is the level of minds , what more can you expect.

I agree that this show has to show the ugliness, I just see it turning in to a love story and that sits uncomfortably with me as someone who was abused, that yea they all turn good so just stick it out, and many people do thinking they will change.

For a lot of people this is a lived reality where getting out literally means not being killed. I just forsee her being like its okay, I love you too, it's my duty as a wife to forgive you 🤢 but def. see what you are saying!

SO AGREE! Like if this turns in to a love story, it shows people that this is realistic, and people root for it. When often the scars of abuse are left of abused bodies forever, emotionally speaking as well and literal scars.

Absolutely right, Samrat is a shame on Manhood. In fact, he is so insecure in his manliness that to prove his powers, he is abusing everyone. And since the others stand up against him - they are enabling him. BTw, shame on his mother who is playing with him and the rest, esp. with Urmi - for her own personal gains...

I agree with you. This show is a mirror to millions of Men who are just like Samrat. Samrat makes my blood boil, but there are Men just like him. Yes, Urmi should move away from him - but breaking a marriage is not that easy either. They can show that Urmi finally masters the courage to get out - for breakings the norm in a society takes courage - esp. in a society when everyone tells to compromise and accept. Lets hope Cvs show a positive power of womenhood and how they can stand on their own feet...
