Today's episode Ishaan's attempts didn't annoy me, rather melted my heart. I am not ignoring his previous mistakes and how he himself is partly responsible for this mess. But I am looking at it in the current situation.
I don't blame Samrat for a lot of things. (In fact i don't hate his character. I enjoy him as a character, and there are times I love him for his lines on practicality, his reactions to certain things, etc.) I don't blame Samrat for not believing in Rasams, I don't blame him for his emotional unavailability because I feel he's never hid it and Ishaan covered for him. But here, today, I do blame him for not even bothering to pick up Urmi. That being said, I am glad he didn't as he's true to his character, and is one of the many things Urmi, her family and his own family will witness in this marriage.
Ishaan today did the best he could to make the family and Urmi not feel hurt. Did he lie? Yes. Did he go overboard? Yes. Is it really any different from his previous lies which I blame him for? No. But still, in this situation--leaving aside that he himself is partly responsible for the situation--he relieved her family from hurt, and later made Urmi smile and laugh.
Which brings me to Urmi.. I am not going to go into a long post on Urmi or how I feel she too has been blind and had many signs. I've been meaning to write about how Urmi's not being a total naive victim--but one who's made her own mistakes, i.e basically herself proving to Samrat that she would put him over Trisha; choosing to ignore the signs staring her right in the face--makes this show more easier to watch.
See, i don't know whether or not I would be able to watch the show as I am able to now if Urmi were totally and completely an unwitting victim. Instead, the fact that she too has can be blamed somewhat makes it easier to watch this show.
Does this mean she deserves all that's happening? No, but it also makes the characters and the story more real, with more depth and layers.
And that's why this is the one show I am really invested in right now. The one show I somehow caught after I had sworn off Hindi serials for their regressive messages; for their unreal characterizations; for their ridiculous and insane plot twists. But yet this show pulled me back in. I don't know how long this journey with DAK will last. I don't have much faith int his industry--I see progressive stories scrapped, or ridiculous plot twists for the sake of ratings, channel interference, creative see-saw, etc etc. But however long this show continues to impress me, I will be a loyal watcher.

Today for the first time I thought that there really is scope in the story for Ishaan/Urmi. For the first time I found myself seeing the possibilities and even liking them as a pairing. If this were about two decades ago, it would be easier to believe that perhaps the story really will take this turn. But Hindi television has regressed rather than progressed. So the chances of this ending with Urmi/Samrat living out a happy married life are high. Because apparently marriage (and consummation) is IT. Or, if two people are leads, that is IT. They will eventually overcome all and live happily ever after. But hey, maybe I am wrong. And maybe this show will be different.
