Part IV RAGHU FALLS IN LOVE

Days passed and with that Raghu and Antara's friendship became deeper. It became a daily routine for Raghu to come from office, leave his bag at his house and hang around Antara's house chatting along with her. He loved talking to her and spending time with her. And it also became a routine for Antara to send poha to Raghu's house on Sunday mornings. Of course most of it was eaten by Aaji who loved Antara's cooking but that is not the point. The point was that Raghu and Antara were getting closer. Of course the whole street was shocked by this news. Raghu still remembered the time when he and Antara while talking to each other walked out of her house. The whole street froze at seeing them together without shouting at the top of their voices. But soon the people of the area became familiar with the sight of Antara and Raghu walking around laughing and conversing with each other. Soon the people started speculating on how good Antara and Raghu looked with each other. Many ladies even asked Maami and Aaji when the wedding was. While Maami was baffled at the question, Aaji had just smiled smugly.

Raghu liked spending time with Antara. She had this freshness and innocence in her which was hard to find in Mumbai girls. Her liveliness always made Raghu forget the tiredness of work. Her laughter diminished his fatigue and her smile always cheered him up. He started looking forward to meet her. Sundays were the best for him as the whole day he would spend time with Antara as she used to visit him with her Poha. And while his Aaji ate almost all of the Poha he and Antara would sit and chat till the lunch time came. Antara used to have lunch at Raghu's house after which they would sit on the terrace and talk till the evening. Sometimes he would play his mouth organ and sometimes she would sing. Sometimes they will have Jugal bandi with her singing and his playing while Aaji listened to it with her eyes glued to her favorite Jodi; Raghu and Antara. Raghu had almost forgotten about his promise to Machmach and Machmach wasn't eager to remind him either. Infact, Machmach avoided Raghu so that Raghu did not remember his promise and stop himself from falling for Antara. Machmach also made sure that he met Antara only when Raghu was not around.

Raghu sighed as he stood on the terrace looking around, his mind still stuck on Antara. He did not know what drew him towards Antara. But there was something about Antara which made him want to keeping on spending time with her. But today spending time with her was not possible. He had so eagerly gotten up in the morning as he realized that it was Sunday and today Antara would bring poha and they would spend time together. But unfortunately Bappa did not like his eagerness. Maami decided to take Antara with her to the mandir and they were to come back only in the evening. He sighed again sadly as his eyes stared at his favorite balcony; the balcony where Antara stood most of the nights either singing songs or talking to him. He did not know why Antara was affecting him so much. Why was her absence driving him so crazy? Tum itni kyon important ho Antara? Kya hai jo mujhe teri taraf kheechta hai? Right behind him was Aaji looking at him from her hiding spot. She giggled at his miserable expression. Bilkul Devdas lagta hai mera Chintu! Lagta hai mera teer ek dum nishaane pe laga. She smiled as she remembered how she had phoned to Antara's Maami asking her to take Antara with her as today was an auspicious day. Aaji had wanted to see the progress of her plan. She wanted to see whether Raghu was falling for Antara or not. And now she got the answer. The way Raghu was staring at the balcony and the way his face seemed so sad, it was obvious that Raghu was falling for Antara. Thank you Bappa! Mera kaam karne ke liye!

Soon Antara returned with her Maami and the moment she caught sight of him, she brightened up like a bulb. While she had a huge crush on Raghu, she never had got to know him so close. And these days spending time with him, made her understand him inside out and was making her fall in love with him more. She knew from her childhood that he had a golden heart but she never got to see it. But spending time with her, she got to see his kindness and generosity from up close. While on one side she wished that she would forget Raghu and move on, on the other side she wanted to spend more time with him. The whole situation was confusing her. But she had decided to enjoy the moments coming by and worry about the future later.

Raghu waved at her and signaled at her to come up with a big smile on his face. Antara spoke with her Maami, handed the bags to Maami and ran off towards Raghu's house. She climbed up the stairs eagerly as she had missed Raghu the whole day too. As she reached the top of the stairs, she ran towards him without noticing the cloth lying on the floor. She slipped on it and was about to fall backwards when Raghu caught her hand and pulled her towards him. She landed right on his chest and stood still. Her heart was beating fast due to the fall and her proximity towards her crush. Her hands were on his chest and her head was closer to his head. Her right cheek was pressed to his right one. Raghu felt his heart beat build up as he held Antara in his arms. He did not know why Antara's proximity was making his heart go wild. But soon all thoughts were wiped out of his head when Antara looked at him and their eyes locked.

Suddenly Aaji cleared her throat and Raghu and Antara jumped apart. Antara looked at the ground as she tried to calm her beating heart while Raghu scratched his head unsure of what exactly had happened. Aaji smiled at them, "Aagayi tu Antara! Achcha hogaya! Yeh Chintu tere ko bahut miss kar raha tha!" Antara looked at Aaji in shock and then at Raghu. Raghu looked away wanting to protest but unable to. Aaji continued, "Aaja. Tere liye garma garam chai aur Puranpoli banaai hai. Chintu tu bhi aa!" Aaji walked away and Raghu and Antara looked at each other awkwardly. After a while they too joined Aaji.

It was late at night when Antara walked onto her balcony talking on phone with someone. Raghu frowned; itni raat gaye kisse baat kar rahi hai? Shaayad Mummy Pappa honge. Raghu nodded. He felt his heart beat speed up when Antara laughed into the phone. Suddenly, Maami came in and asked whom she was talking to. Antara smiled and replied that it was her college friend Aakash who was missing her and so had called her. Maami walked away with a smile while Raghu gripped the balcony parapet in shock. Yeh Aakash kaun hai? Aur itni raat gaye kyun call kiya? Us yede ko pata nahi kya ki itni raat ko ladkiyon ko call nahi karte. Aur yeh Maami ne bhi Antara ko toka nahi? Aur yeh Antara? He looked at Antara who was smiling and laughing on the phone. Yeh Miss Call toh has has ke baat karreli hai! He gritted his teeth in anger. Aisa kya joke bol raha hai woh jo yeh yedi aise has rahi hai? Kabhi joke suna nahi kya isne? He glared at Antara who while talking went inside the house. He leaned forward with his hand raised towards her as if to stop her. Suddenly, Raghu came out of his thoughts. He stepped back from the parapet in confusion and frowned. Par mere ko itna ghussa kyun aa raha hai jab woh kisise baat kare toh? Yeh Miss Call kisise bhi baat kare mere ko kya? Aur use dekhke mera dil kyun aisa baj raha jaise koi drum ho? Yeh mereko ho kya raha hai? He scratched his head in confusion and walked towards his room. He could not sleep the whole night. He tossed and turned but sleep refused to come and meet him. Why was he feeling this way towards Antara? When he turned this possessive that her talking to a guy was affecting him so badly? And why his heart started beating so fast when she was close to him in the evening? Why was he missing her when she was not around? Yeh mere ko kya ho raha hai? Yeh kya confusion hai yaar! It took him whole night to realize that he was in love with Antara but when he woke up in the morning, he was in denial. Pyaar? Aur woh bhi mereko? Nai nai! Mereko nai lagta! He went to his office but could not concentrate on his work. Finally at the end of the day he realized that he was indeed in love. He had no other option than to accept that he was in love.

It was evening when Raghu entered his house happily. He had a small smile on his face. He was in love! It was such a relief to know that he was not ill. He grinned eagerly. Mereko pyaar hogayela hai! He stared at Antara's house and smiled sheepishly. Main aa raha hoon! Mere dil ki baat tereko bataane ko! Bas ab main Miss Call ko jaake mere dil ki baat baateyega. He smiled eagerly at that thought. Phir tu meri Miss Call aur main tera Mr. Nike.
