This thread is "illuminating" as a really matured, though-provoking, realistic conversation! I really loved to the core.👍🏼

Thanks to everyone whoever contributed and put forth their real life bitter experiences with subordinate writing skills!

And special thanks to TM, who isn't enjoying the show but still keep illuminating this thread.👏.

@ah99:- Sorry to hear whatever rough patches you gone thru in your life because of "skin" color.. but i guess such a circumstances make us mentally really strong to face the world..

Nice post dear.. all these questions are in every ones mind!!!
Once I wrote that the whole family took Sandy for granted and walking all over her.. and she is allowing them to do so... this so contradict her intelligence..

Bhabo's pride about her values are totally a failure, except Sooraj no one has any values!! All her children are evil except Sooraj. So, what she really taught them???

About Baby swap, or 1st and 2nd MF, wedding video.etc etc etc..I can't even think when they are going to show the real justice!!!!

I have been reading your thread as and when it appears on screen. You have an excellent style of writing which I must compliment you on.

1.I am by nature a realist and despite idealism being good for our soul, it does not work out in the real world. Real world outside is harsh, unforgiving, gender biased, racist and corrupt. That is something we all have to accept whether we like it or not. Another hard reality which we as viewers have to accept is the telly world runs on TRPS figures. Unless a serial is able to maintain the same there is every possibility of the serial getting axed. Within this parameter only the CVs can function or show their creativity. Trying out new ideas is a calculated risk which while topping the charts for weeks together one may not want to take. The risk taking will start when the TRPS drop and they realize they have to try out something new. In the context of DABH that is still to happen.

2. Regarding racism, India is a racist country and white skin is worshipped here. The innumerable fairness creams which flood the market, the matrimonial ads asking for fair brides, the expectant mother being given saffron milk to have a fair baby are all a part of the same mindset. This attitude prevails in most of South Asia and South east Asia. Call it legacy of white colonial past call it what you want to it exists. That is exactly what they are trying to show in the serial as well. They have shown all family members loving Kanha irrespective of his colour. We can view it as their attempt to draw our attention to this malaise as well as its insignificance in the Rathi household rather then having any negative connotation.

3. Regarding Bhabo repressing her golden hearted Beendani and not allowing her to pursue a career of her choice it is apart from ego and possessiveness an ideological clash between the traditional definition of a wife and a modern one. They have to show the problem only then can they solve it.

4.Indefinite delay in closing the loose ends and allowing Mohit, Chavvi and Meena to get away with murder is no doubt an attempt to drag the serial. That is done so that the CVs can buy time for future tracks. If they close all loose ends, there will be nothing left to show, so till they plan future tracks on IPS they drag. No doubt it frustrates us and leaves us fuming but CVs find it difficult to meet deadlines if the serial moves fast as they are working non stop without a break..

5.Regarding corruption and fixing in game shows it happens all the time. They are showing it they will also show the culprits being taught a lesson.

6.At the end of the day patience is a virtue we have to develop as no matter how critically we all view a serial at the end of the day it is not idealism and creativity but commercial interests which play a key role in the serial's making and continuance.

7.This serial shows us the innumerable social evils which exists in our society and how they can be fought against. If they had shown a pliant Bhabo and super sweet family members Meena, Mohit and Chavvi what is there in the story to develop it. It will be over in 2 weeks.

8.We however have one tool in hand that is to critically evaluate the serial and say what we want to, whether they hear us or not is a debatable issue.

In the end, it is all about trps. Overall though, dabh has been successful in delivering its main theme of a husband supporting his wife's dream. That and treating one's wife with respect are much needed social messages for chauvinistic India. I have also liked their focus on keeping your environment clean, fake baba, anti corruption, patrotism, cheating on reality shows and in college etc. Even though execution has not always been stellar, the good has prevailed over evil each time.
I agree that 2013 has seen some real lows in terms of dragging the evil family quotient with the matka drama. The leads being mute has not gelled with me. Baby swap track has dragged way too long. If they don't punish Meena it would be a total disaster. Only in this case, commercial interest may win against social messaging. Meena is one of the main reasons for the show's success. She might escape punishment for that reason alone.

I have attempted watching other shows. To me, dabh has always had more substance. It makes a sincere attempt to illuminate even though it stumbles thru darkness while getting there sometimes.

Well first and foremost a big thanks to ah99 for sharing a personal slice of life, which is not an easy thing to do.

The problem is that this serial is being headed by an engine that clumsily and sluggishly takes in every twist and turn guided by the TRP lights, not taking into into consideration the red or the green ones.

I am appalled at the way our television has turned in the 21 century. Non chalantly and in a fairly brazen way first the wistful methods of obtaining a male child and then to turn the tables round a fare and loively female child. What sort of a mentality does this depict.

A normal person just switches into the idiot box to forget the quotidien hum drims of life, agreed and then to whet the appetite these people keep on dragging plots and adding sillieer sub plots where nothing makes sense or finally where in the audience is either fooled into a pseudo sense of security that "all ends well".

Forgetting that in the process of "all ends well" a whole lot of harm has been done which cannot be undone.

Thanks again ah99.

I like the part of everyone taking the main protagonists for granted and treating them like filth (not exactly the term you used, but the one that I added).
Thanks Neelmon

Thaks Umdu for your comments which have been put down in a very logical and chronological order.

I agree with you that the whole bloody point out here is garnering TRP's.
So to make things intriguing all sorts of spices are whipped up in a dish, not to forget that too many of which can lead to an ulcer (on a light note).

Thanks again.

Thanks Deebz for your message too.

So maybe the question that one ought to pose is the following one :
Have soaps become soppy?
This is the problem that they faced in the West too. But unlike dragging their serials to no end, they have them according to seasons. So maybe this could be a solution.

Or else wind uo a serial in maximum 24 parts as they still do in our neighbouring countries and limit the telecast to maybe a single day in a week (as in the good olden days )

Understand the point about TRPs; thank you for that clarification. I still maintain that there are other shows that manage to sustain relatively high TRPs whilst limiting the number of negative characters, and also whilst resolving issues before they seem like they are dragging.

Although I don't know for sure, I could bet that they had high TRPs during the Singapore stint. I also wonder how many viewers are fed up and being alienated. I, for one! This is not the first time I've stopped watching. I will admit though that when the story changes and moves along, I do return to it - as I'm sure do many of you.
