It Matters
Tears rolled down her cheeks as she tried to suppress her sobs. With her wails taking cover in the vessel's whistle and the tears sheltered in the onion cutting, Drishti was evidently miserable.
With a lot of effort, care and love, she had prepared a good meal for the family but Mahima had rejected all her dishes citing them unhealthy and not fit for everyone's taste. But she being herself, took up the challenge and was here, preparing a new set of delicacies. What had hurted her the most was Rakshit's indifference and everyone watching her like that, making her feel so unwanted and foolish.
She felt someone approaching and looked up to see him coming in. It was him.
She looked away and continued working.
He quickly moved towards her, startling her.
"Aap kya...?", she said, turning around to face him leaning over her. He extended his hand, only to switch off the burner.
"Doodh ubalkar jal jaayega", he said.
She turned around and straightened her dress and thoughts.
"Aapka ho gaya ho toh jaa sakte hain", she said plainly.
"Main yahan tumhaari help karne aaya hoon", he said frankly.
"Kya? Kya mere kaan baj rahe hain? Matlab The Rakshit Shergill ab meri help karenge woh bhi kitchen mein?", she said sarcastically.
"Haan. Kyunki kisine mujhe kaha tha ki koi bhi problem choti nahi hoti"
"Mujhe pata hai ki I'm no one to interfere in your family matters but dekhiye use! Behen hai woh aapki!", Drishti pleaded to Rakshit.
"Ek baar try toh kariye use samjhne ki, she's in love!"
"Sahi kaha tumne, you're no one to interfere so don't mess with me", he threw away his coat on the bed.
"Mujhe lagta hai you're overreacting. Thode din mein sab normal ho jaayega, woh bhool jaayegi usko", he said unaffected.
"Sach mein Mr. Shergill? Kya koi pyaar ko bass bhool jaata hai?", she said, tears welling up.
"Pata nahi. Par tumse milkar aisa hi lagta hai ab. I don't matter to you ab iske aage main kya kahoon?"
Drishti felt guilty. But she had to do it, to save Rakshit from being constantly monitored by Pishachini. She even had to push him that day.
"Bohot choti si problem hai, tum stress mat lo", he said after she quitened down suddenly.
"Koi bhi problem choti nahi hoti", she said before leaving the room.
"Cooker mein se aloo nikalkar uske peels nikaliye", she said.
"Waise iss sabki koi zaroorat nahi hai", she said.
"Zaroorat toh tumhaari yeh challenge accept karne ki bhi nahi thi. Par tumne kiya, kyunki tum Maa ko prove karna chahti ho ki tum kisise kam nahi"
"Am I right or am I right?", he said.
"Uparse tel nikaaliye aur kadhai mein daaliye", she said choosing to ignore the question.
"Ouch!", he said, as he accidentally touched the hot vessel.
"Isiliye kehte hai kitchen mein aate rehna chahiye", she giggled and dragged him away to dip it in cold water.
"Chalo ek baat toh acchi ho gayi, tumhe fark toh padta hai"
"Haan padta hai, bohot padta hai", she said, looking right into his eyes.
The seriousness in her statement caught him off guard.
She continued cutting the vegetables.
"Itna gussa jaise abhi teesri aankh nikal aayegi", he remarked. Startled, she slicked a bit of skin off her finger.
"Kitchen mein roz aane ka koi khaas faayda nahi", he laughed back.
Slowly, he walked upto her. His soft touched grazed her wound and she closed her eyes. Her heart raced up.
He took it close to him and then thrust it in her mouth.
"Choos lo, khoon nikal raha hai. Phir bahar aana main patti kar doonga", he said, smiling smirkingly. "Tumne kya socha by the way?", he winked and left.
