Yeah, if you recall, that was my main beef w/ her tirade that day as well. She said almost nothing about Viraj, but just went on her tirade against society for expecting her to stay in such a marriage. Hello, come again? Who (except Viraj) ever asked her to stay within that marriage? Gayatri, when she learnt about her, promised her full support, and so did Raghav, Tashu, Komal... Who else was left? Her parents had no clue as to what was on, but once they did, they too urged her to divorce him. In the past, she was supported by Mrs Awasthi and then the ashram ladies. Even the cops - who have been depicted in this serial as either incompetent, corrupt or now downright thugs - supported her for that time. Who exactly was she ranting against?
I don't mind feminist characters in shows, but I do expect some consistency in character. If a girl has the opinions that Sia expressed in that tirade, the last thing I expect of them is of them to cherish their sindoor & maang. That's something one associates w/ more conservative women, who don't give much of a value on this. It would have made sense for Jhanvi during the early part of their marriage, but after that, if she indeed lost her faith in it, which is understandable, it does not make sense that she'll cherish it or its symbolisms, like maang & sindoor.
Gah, word. Though hands down that Sriti said every dialogue with complete conviction. If I've rewatched that scene a million times, it's because of her performance alone.
Everyone supported Sia. No one was against helping her. If they wanted to make society an issue, then maybe they should've focused on Awasti auntie blaming Sia, coming with indirect remarks or something. They shouldn't have introduced an ashram that supports abused women, or shown ashram Didi talk about society poisoning minds of women and demanding they return to their husbands. They should've shown the part of society that would blame her and stigmatize her and be an obstacle that she'd have to overcome in order to move on.
Don't even get me started on the cops. I don't think I've ever cursed the writers as much for anything than for how they made the police force look on this show.
The only place that I actually got the "put sindoor in my maang" thing was when she was afraid that she'd die and end up with V in her next janam, and so she needed Raghav to put the sindoor in her maang and secure her next janam. Actually, what would have been of stronger significance to Sia than sindoor would've been the seven phere because the pheres were the thing that V used against her, the way that he possessed her, e.g. when he took the seven pheres whilst burning down her childhood home.
But yeah, I see your point with the character inconsistency in relation to Sia. I think that the actual issue is how they didn't show her thought process from despising sindoor and seeing it as a curse to acknowledging it as a blessing. They just jumped from one to the other. Now she hates it as a curse of society. Now she loves it because it's Raghav. The process in between was neglected completely, and it just made no sense at all.
