In English there are 2 words - step (brother or sister) and half (brother or sister). "Step" means both children don't share a common biological parent, while "half" means one parent is biologically common to both. Rishabh and Ritvik are step brothers as they both have different parents. Reeva and Ritvik however, have the same father. Technically Ritvik is more her brother than he is Rishabh's. So it's kinda senseless that she should say he's not her real brother.
This word "sautela" is confusing because it's used to refer to both kinds of siblings - though to me it sound more like "step".
Does anyone know if there's a different word?

Yes - they are half-siblings. And hardly sautela, since they have the same father. Although technically sautela means "saut ka beta/ beti", which means kids from multiple wives ... so they can be half and step too.

In this case, I guess Indian TV has used the term to sensationalize the hero's hurt

I think Reeva is Mamta's kid from her previous marriage. So they in actual are step.
Also in Hindi for both half and step only sautela is used :p

Right

Historically , concept of divorce never existed for hindu marriages. and women never remarried after being widowed. On the contrary Men could have had multiple wives .

When a man had multiple wives , they were called sauts and Sautela means belonging to saut
