Destiny's Game

"Kastur, you have a call."

Kastur woke up and looked at her roommate Alina. "Who is it?", she asked in a sleepy voice. "Your grandma." her mate replied normally.

Opening her eyes in jerk, Kastur jumped up in a sitting position. Her face lit up on hearing it and her eyes were filled with delight and tears of joy. Without wasting a moment, she got up from the bed and ran outside.

"Baa, how are you? How's your health now? Do you take your medicines on time? Baa, tell me something. Hello.", Kastur said, on a spree, in tension.

Baa laughed. "Beta, give me a chance to speak.", she said sarcastically.

Kastur stopped. "Baa, how are you now? You know that I was waiting for your call since three days.", she said softly.

"Sorry beta. I got discharge from the hospital today. Got the chance to call you now. I'm absolutely fine. I follow doctor's instructions correctly and take my medicine on time. Happy now?", Baa said in a motherly tone.

"Yes, and please take care of yourself. Don't get your BP low again. Please.", Kastur pleaded.

Baa smiled. "Yes I'll take care but I have a condition.", she said.

"What?", Kastur asked curiously.

"You have to come in India to take care of me.", Baa said authoritatively.

Kastur's face turned serious. "Baa, you know that--"

"Yes, I know but they are on a business trip for a month. Now can you come?", Baa asked very sweetly.

"Baa--"

"Please?"

"Okay fine. As you say. I have my exams going on now. Will try to be there in a few days. Happy?", Kastur asked plainly.

Baa grinned. "Yes, very happy.", she said.

"Class, read section two in ten minutes." The professor ordered his students.

Engrossed in texting someone, Mohan came inside the classroom in a carefree attitude, and soon the professor stopped him.

"Mohan, you are late again."

Mohan raised his eyes and rolled them in frustration. "Sir, I was just texting my girlfriend and you disturbed me. Not fair.", he said peculiarly. Rest of the class broke in a huge giggle.

"Quiet everyone." Professor ordered them. He, then, turned his face to Mohan, who was trying hard in suppressing his laugh, and said strictly, "Don't try to act over-smart and take your seat."

Mohan smirked. "Thank you sir. You are very sweet. You understand me a lot, sir.", he said sarcastically. Professor ignored him and went near the whiteboard. Mohan took his seat. The class was going on. He was seriously taking all the notes.

"Students, I have your exams back, and the result is same as every time.", Professor smilingly said and walked to Mohan. "Congratulations Mohan.", he said and forwarded his hand. Mohan stood up, gave an obvious smile as if he already knew it and shook hands with his professor.

"Mohan. What are you made of, yaar? I mean, seriously, how do you manage studies and girls together? How, yaar?", Azaan asked him impatiently.

Mohan laughed. "Work hard and I'm sure you'll do well next time.", he said friendlily.

Azaan sighed and frowned. "Hopefully, yaar.", he said and left.

Mohan shook his head and gave his killer smile. Just then his phone buzzed. He took it out of his pocket and saw a message flashing on screen - "1 new message from Best Friend"

He slightly smiled. He opened it and his small smile went a big grin as he read the message. "Your wish is my command, best friend.", he said to himself.

Mohan's phone rang.

"Hello.", he said in his manly voice.

"Darling, we are meeting tomorrow night, aren't we?", Nikita asked to be sure.

Mohan scratched his forehead. "Umm.. Nikita, lets meet tonight. Tomorrow I've an important work to do.", he said.

"What other important work rather than me?", Nikita asked really curiously and worriedly.

Mohan smiled. "I can smell you burning, sweetie.", he said mischievously, and soon he turned normal and said, "Bestie has asked me to do something. How can I refuse her? You know naa what she means to me?"

"Oh yes, I can understand. Anyways we will meet tonight. Love you darling. Take care.", Nikita lovingly said.

"Love you too sweetheart. Muaah. Bye and you too take care.", Mohan said and hung up the call.

Kastur was packing her bag.

Alina arrived there. "Going to India?", she asked plainly.

"Yeah. Exams are over. Baa has called me. So time to meet her.", Kastur said plainly and remained busy in packing up her stuff.

Alina became serious. "You want to face them?", she asked.

Kastur looked at her. "They are out for a business trip and will be back after a month. Anyways I don't want to talk about them.", she said coldly and went to do her work again.

After a pause, Alina finally gathered courage and asked her, "Kastur, can't you forgive them? They are your--"

"They are my parents, I know that. But neither could I forgive them in the past nor could I do it now, never. I can't smile. I can't enjoy like others. Thanks to them, Alina. They were just busy in business, arguing and never caring about me. Why should I care, then? Why should I forgive them?", Kastur said intensely with anger, pain and agony reflecting in her eyes.

Alina walked to her. Hugging her, she said sweetly, "Calm down yaar." She said. They had a friendly hug for a while. After they broke their hug,

"Take care, Alina. Thanks for being there for me, always. Thanks for being such an amazing friend.", Kastur gratefully said.

"Huh you are thanking to your friend? Did your screw get loose? Tell me, I can make it tight.", Alina said laughingly.

Kastur forced an unusually slight smile. "I need to go to the library.", she said and left quickly.

"Kastur, I wish that you get someone special in India who'd bring back happiness in your life and make you smile from the heart.", Alina truly wished, folding her hands.
