Mahananda was a devotee. A soul, who is eager to unite with her Aaradhya. Here please don't misunderstand it as a physical union. He is devoted to Parvati only.
This is a story of how a Jeeva unites with Shiva. An Aatma's union with Paramatma. Here soul is neither male nor female. Paramatma is form of pure energy. That's why when the Shivling is thrown in fire it indicated her to purify herself. She did so by jumping in the fire & our param kripalu Shivji granted her freedom.
Shivji gave her an opportunity, wanted to test her how far she can go to protect symbol of her Aaradhya & Mahananda passed that test.

Ya,true...Mahananda always did Shiva's worship with proper attention n due love...N SHiva is for Parvati only as it is said-Shakti k bina Shiva bhi shav h...
Parmatma sees everything n he has eyes on every work did by everyone...n God takes test of those who r true bhakta fully devoted...So,he took Mahananda's test n as we noe,hw mahananda passed the test...😊

Ya,well said...Parmatma makes any impure thing pure...When a person walks on his path,he/she always reaches to the God directly...
And so it is said,Dont say anything before knowing the whole fact...😉

Reshma, many things are added later in Puranas. What we are reading is translated version, where someone must have interpreted their Spiritual union as physical consumation. But Shivji has proved again & again he is loyal to Parvati only.

He is Lord Shiva not Indra, who can commit crime to achieve his motive.

Puranas are nt proof of anything...Only Vedas r the true, permanent n glorious source of every things of Gods...Vedas only contain truth...And Puranas r the altered version of the vedas...they contain sm fictional stories too...
Shiva is only meant for Parvati, well said...

Not Sayantani Ghosh, but Shilpa Shinde in Mahadev

Not Sayantani Ghosh, but Shilpa Shinde in Mahadev
Shilpa Shinde More Pics
It seems luck is in favour for actress Shilpa Shinde who was replaced by Pragati Mehra in Do Dil Ek Jaan recently.

The actress who had reportedly complained about not being happy with her role and had also met with an accident, will now play a cameo in the popular show Devon Ke Dev Mahadev. She will play the character of Mahananda who is a devotee of Mahadev. She said, "I am happy that even after having a plaster on my hand, the makers of the show have offered me a good opportunity. when I was offered the role of Daya Mai it sounded very interesting. But the role never turned out the way it was narrated to me so it was a disappointing journey with Do Dil Ek Jaan. Now that I have a popular show like Devon...Mahadev, I will give it my best and work on the show without the plaster."

This happened after the production house had auditioned another actress Sayantani Ghosh for the role. According to a reliable source, the actress could not confirm with the production house due to monetary reasons. Sayantani who was looking forward to the role, said, "

After playing Satyavati I was looking forward to this but it didn't work out." Sayantani was earlier keen to participate in Nach Baliye but could not do the show as she did not want to go public with her personal life.

Regarding 'Consummate':

Not knowing the actual story from the Vedas or Purunas of Mahananda, I don't know where the idea of consummating with Lord Shiva came from. In that context, Lord Shiva didn't even consummate with Parvati. They merged the energies of the hearts and lifestreams to procreate. This was depicted in the show.

When a chela is initiated at a certain degree by the Guru, there is an energy transfer from the Guru; and an essence of the Guru can be given to the initiate. Perhaps someone in their human consciousness used the word 'consummate' in the wrong way. What was the word used in Sanskrit?

I was once told by a Hindu Guru that "the greatest relationship is the relationship between Guru and Chela." In the context of the Teaching, this relationship was being compared to a Twin Flame relationship such as Shiva/Parvati or Vishnu/Lakshmi. The reason this was being given as the example of the greatest relationship is because it is one of deepest dedication, devotion, obedience and love - by free will choice. I believe somewhere in this Forum there is a discussion about the relationship of Mahadev and Nandi and the topic in question was "Who does Mahadev love more, Sati or Nandi?" There were some who answered he loves them the same...

The story of Mahananda and Lord Shiva is probably very profound. She passed the initiation to the nth degree and was probably given some essence of the God - although most probably not by physical consummation as we understand that. And in truth, it is the goal of every devotee to merge with the God of his/her devotion - however this is not physical consummation.

@Debra, I am glad you've understood it well. That's the essence of Purana's stories. They actually show how some wisdom, important lessons, Spiritual states were achieved or can be achieved. Misinterpreting them always leads to a series of doubts.

Well said👏...Shiv can never be intimate with anothr woman...he is parvati only..time and time agian he proved his love to parvati..so why in the world would he be psychial/intimate with another woman... I dont think the merchant was physcial with mahananda..but it was a pure/clean relation between atmaa and paramaatma..
