I'll pull out a rather contrarian, if not controversial lesson, from the current track - particularly Monday April 30 episode. Namely, that I agree w/ Indra's unscrupulous strategy for winning.
Putting aside for a moment what's the authentic story and what ain't, Indra (of DkDM) is right. He's not at a WWF bout where he has to show his strength, nor is he even an IPL (or LPL) cricketer who's trying to win the FairPlay awards. He's the ruler of the devas, and one of his prime responsibilities is to keep the devas safe, even if it means being at the receiving end of opprobrium from others. Note that I'm not discussing Matsyakanya or Trisiras here, I'm discussing Indra's strategy against Jalandhar.
Indra could see that Jalandhar had a huge advantage over him, and that head to head, he'd lose. So what does he do? He has some of his best archers rain missiles over the asuras long range, and use another division to intercept the asura medical supplies. Devious, yes, unscrupulous, certainly, but absolutely brilliant. Indra is executing his responsibilities towards the devas perfectly.
To those puzzled over my views here, it is the duty of leaders to protect their subjects, even if it means getting pilloried by everyone. Take the example of Yudhisthir lying to Drona. By itself, it was petty, but given that he could either do that, or watch his entire army get massacred, Yudhisthir did what he had to, even if it meant spending some time in hell at the end of it all. Similarly, here, Indra could either preside over the destruction of the devas, or pull off any tricks he could to prevent such a situation.
Yeah, Indra would have done well not to have murdered Trisiras & Matsyakanya in the first place. But aside from that, I don't fault him for what he's doing in battle (as per this track).
