Another reason was that he had kept the devas' weapons in his body. DKDM has shown both this as well as Shiva giving him a boon earlier.

In some versions, Vishnu said that only the bones of a rishi could be used to kill Vritra (because he could not be killed by anything made of metal, wood, stone or anything dry or wet) ; he then directed Indra to Dadhichi who willingly offered himself for the cause.

Rishi Dadhichi was a Jeevan-mukta soul, so he was not attached to his body, he happily gave up his life. But Seriously Indra doesn't deserve it. I'll miss rishi Dadhichi. 😭

Oh that's why..they showed in the pre cap..Indra saying it is time to get Devtas astras back from Rishi Dadichi..!! And they also showed abt Vritra.'s boon..!!

I wish to see Vritasur causing havoc for indra in the precap looks like Indra was traumatized they way he came running to Shiv. The best part was Shiv saying itna abhinay kyon ROTFL.
But cannot bear the loss of Dadhichi for a fool like Indra.

what is sad is that the journey for the betterment of the world goes en route Indra, and a great man Dadhichi has to give up his ghost for a selfish king of gods who cares only for his throne..

But nevertheless, he stands out to be Mahadev's true disciple and true embodiment of Shiva's philosophy. He'll become one the 'ONE'

After this Kaliyug current Lord Indra will be replaced with Maha BaliRaja as the new Indra
