The ancient text Shakti Sangam Tantra in its Kali Khand chapter has mentioned the origin of Lord Batuk Bhairav. According to the text, once a demon named Aapat had gained powers through Sadhanas and he used it to harass everyone including the gods. The gods then got together and started to think of ways to find a solution to this problem. As they started concentrating, their powers appeared as a flash of light and took the form of a five year old child, Batuk. The child, then, killed the demon and saved the gods which is why he is known as Aapat Uddharak Batuk Bhairav.

In tantra and other Hindu puja, this is the most worshiped form of Lord Bhairav among the various forms of Bhairav. All other forms of Bhairav are terrifying apart from this as this is in the form of a child. He is also known as the child form of Lord Shiva. The image of Batuk Bhairav is displayed with a dog accompanying him, which is symbolized as dharma

It is believed that Shiv appeared in the form of Batuk Bhairav on the 10th day during the waxing phase (Krishn Paksh) of Moon in Jyeshth Month.
Bhairav Devta was created out of the third eye of Lord Shiva as the Poorn Avataar.
Bhairav the fierce manifestation of Shiva stands for Kaal or time. Time also stands for fear; none can escape it. While worshipping Bhairav one is worshipping fear itself
Bhairav is also worshipped in the form of Batuk Bhairav or the child form. This symbolizes the very root of fear.

I heard a similar story from My grand mother. In south, if you go to Kashi ( Varanasi ) and come back to your village , you give a feast to the villagers. But before the feast begins one who returned from Kashi, has to gather the stray dogs and feed them till they don't eat any more. Then only the villagers can eat. It is called Bhairava Samaradhana/ Kala Bhairava Samaradhana.

batuk=Vatuvu ( telugu) . A young male child who just had his upanayam, a brahmachari.
Minaxi, is this how I read it. Is that correct?

@Varaali, Batuk means a 5 to 9 year old boy.
This is the pic of Batuk Bhairav. He is also called Gora Bhairav, where as other form of Bhairav like Kaal Bhairav are dark in complection.
You'll see his pic in some of Durgama's pics along with Hanumanji.
During Navratri when 9 young girls are called for for puja, some even call one 5 to 9 year old boy along with them for lunch.
Very little info about Batuk Bhairav is awailable online.
@ Anjani, Black Dogs are fed for Kaal Bhairav. Even those who are troubled due to Rahu in their birth chart are adviced to do so, specially on Saturday.
This Sunday being Amavasya & in current transit Rahu & Saturn are in conjuction, considering that showing Ma Kali & Batuk Bhairav on that day is quite good, considering the significant days & tracks they follow in DKDM.
