Lakshmi was already married to Vishnu before Kurma avaatar, but she left Vaikunta for some reason and returned after marrying Vishnu again. Does anyone know the story behind it? I couldn't find it on wiki.

The curse associated with Lakshmi leaving and re-emerging from the ocean was Durvasa's not Bhrigu's.

Couldn't it be that the Bali who led the asuras in the Samudra Manthan, and the Bali who was the grandson of Prahlad and was humbled by Vamana, were two separate asuras having nothing to do w/ each other? If one accepts that, then the Kurma avatar still precedes Narasimha avatar, and nothing is disturbed as far as the sequences & storyline goes.

The Mahabharata version of the Samudra Manthan - wouldn't it be likely going by Shrimad Bhagvatam's 22 avatar list, rather than the 10? Under which Kurma avatar preceded even Matsya?
