Nice post shruti.

As shalli pointed ,the story of sati is unknown to many ,even i my self came to know about her name after studying in our school text books about a practice called sati ..That amused me lot ,that how a wife of shivji can do such attempts ...then i read the full story how Sati was helpless and furious about to protect her husbands honor ,,which eventually leads to her immolation ..But our people deteriorated her name in a unwanted way later .

Sati 's story is very short ,the curiosity about how she ratificated the most charismatic and equally mysterious god in our culture is constantly questioned by all the followers ,readers ,devotees of Shiv.

ITs a not easy task to conceal that curiosity from every admirer .So the masalas that our cv's done is accepted by people to certain level.

Parvati track is something different ,People are so connected to this form of devi in their day to day life .There is no day for them with out spelling her name ,darshan,bhajan,pooja's .\etc .Indeed she is one among the part of their life .All the stories related to her are recited and heard by them for millions of times .though there are 52 sakthi peethas in our country ,people worshiping her as Incognito of Parvathi herself...they can't get over that fact that sati is prior avatar when compared to parvati .So the specialty of Ramayan or Mahabharath or Story of Shiv- Parvati ,People will watch it with more happiness when what is written and heard is shown ,rather than unknown creativities .Because they trust the author of that epics as superhumans vize verse but not our cv's .

Interesting post Shruti!

As I joined the forum around the time of Sati's exit, I don't know what peoples' reactions were from the beginning and it's interesting to hear that, in your opinion, people were less critical. I think that because I watched the first few month's worth of episodes back-to-back, it was easier for me to be critical of the Sati track. In my opinion, the story has been OTT from the very beginning.

As to your question, I am in complete agreement with Tanni that the honeymoon phase is now well over and people are probably fatigued with the excessive liberties being taken, esp. since the Parvati story is so much more familiar.

While I have always cringed at the somewhat bizarre over-dramatization, I have become totally chill about it all thanks to your advice to think of this as a soap! 😆 You were right. The makers have always been clear that this is their interpretation. Even if some of the tracks are cringe-worthy to me, they are showing things they think people will like and that people have indeed liked. I have always believed in different interpretations for different times and that's what I will classify this TV show as. An interpretation.

Having said that, I reserve the right to be critical of it / make fun of it - as I would any creative endeavor. But once I let go of my own personal biases toward textual versions, it doesn't really bother me as much any more!!!

For me this is a television show meant for entertainment. And I am enjoying every last OTT moment of it!

i still find the sudden reactions pretty weird!!!whatever the reason

specially when it comes from those sections of the audiences that willingly accepted all the stuff given to them on Sati,but have a problem with Parvati

in sense of Potrayal Sati and Parvati's stories have been treated in the EXACT same way...

and i think people are glorifying Satis track for all the wrong reasons...

i liked that track too-but you have to admit it too had its flaws...

and just to glorify Satis track you are demeaning Parvatis track in the show is something-sorry i fail to understand!

everyone's vision has become "colored",this was bound to happen!people are looking at the show with a biased vision-not everyone-some of them!

irrespective of whatever they show grumbling is still happening people are still finding flaws and putting down the show-its pre-decided in thier head that they wont like it!The Parvati phase has churned out some spectacular episodes as well...how come people are forgetting that?

for eg:-yesterdays episode was a good one-infact the last few minutes of the episode were spectacular(the haldi ceremony)...but i still find people grumbling!-

what to say about that???

no meaning to offend anyone,but i find such behaviour weird!

agree with u shruthi there are some faults durng the phase of sati too, so I never mind even if they showed these faults now. but the aspect was most of us doesn't properly know the story of sati so we don't know well abt it, and we can expect what they showed was to be true but its not case with devi parvathi as her story was well known to many . so people may have tough time in accepting the faults. So I don't think any one is at fault

I dont understand one thing why are they not changing Parvati's costume?

I mean Sati had so many pretty costumes. The whole thing looked so posh and at the same time so divine.
I am not comparing sati and parvati. I am only comparing the aesthetics and the clothes and the jewllary. Parvati has been wearing the same saari since ages

Sati her mother and her sister were given better jewellary and costumes

Agreed yaar.Some people criticise because they forgot that it's a mythological show and thought it's a typical love story.When reality struck to them,they couldn't accept it.

Others feel they are experts in serial making,they know better than the serial makers themselves, so they keep judging the show,the characters,actors,etc. and criticise them.😆

every show has its share of good,okey and horrid episodes...its something that happens in each and every TV soap!and we can do nothing but accept it-its happened with each and every TV soap-its impossible to churn out a good episode every day!

had DKDM been a normal mytho maybe the whole presentation would have been different..

DKDM is a diffrent mytho,with a mytho story based script but in a daily soap format-if that very thing worked for the show,the same thing works against it...the diffrent narative works for it,at the same time the excess Drama works against it...

The reason why majority of us are watching the show is beacuse it has a diffrent narrative-the same story in a new form,thats what works for the show...

Parvatis and Satis tracks have both been treated in the same way...you can see to believe it..Daksh in Satis phase has been made Maina in Parvatis phase-the stories have been running in certain parameters almost parralel to each other-then why the sudden grumbling on for Parvatis track???Satis track was at the same level...and i honestly think that the show has been consistent with both its postives and its flaws as well

How much ever we criticize the creatives we have to admit they have a hard job-we only sit and watch the final result of a work that may have taken hours-there are various parameters that go into deciding a track thats taken behind closed doors-we should be critical of them yes,but also admire thier efforts as well

"the customer is king concept" doesnt work here-if they dont make the show,we dont get an outcome...

and admist all the fun i make of them at times,i have immense respect for them as well...Making a soap as grand as DKDM is no easy task

@Nandini regarding the costumes even Sati has approx the same number of costumes as Parvati,its only for some reason they just LOVE giving sona pink and yellow to wear,i guess cos they suit her!...but im hoping post marriage they goive Parvati diffrent clothes!
