I recall seeing a hit piece on Prince Dipendra from the BBC, but frankly, I've rarely trusted the BBC, since they haven't been above manufacturing their own stories. In it, the prince was portrayed as a playboy and a bully while in England, and they covered the massacre in detail. I won't argue that the prince was a saint, but the BBC does blacken the reputation of those they don't like.
About the Maoists, what you are describing is similar to what the Marxists were reputed to have done in W Bengal - intimidate people into voting for them using violence, so that for 30+ years, they kept getting elected. Last year was the first time that they were removed from power. In India's case, it was fortunate that it was just one state. For Nepal, they had the whole country while they were in power.
I do hope that a future government in Nepal restores the country's Hindu status. In Wiki, I read that Mahadev is the guardian deity of the country (which seems to explain why a majority of people are Shaivyas). Have they abolished that status for him as well? It would seem that if they are declaring a Hindu deity as the guardian deity of the country, they're automatically accepting that they are a Hindu nation.
