I know! We are indeed manifestations of that supreme soul, but the difference is that we are like tiny particles of him. We're like water droplets and he's the infinite ocean. We might be made of the same substance, but it wouldn't make sense to compare the two. And I love how Krishna bhakti is so personal. People can worship him as a father, brother, best friend, or even husband! What other religion has that?
Lol, I grew up in Mumbai! well, the first six years of my life anyway. I can make it through any type of "bheedh" in India. I'll definitely add Nadia to my list! Won't be able to go to India this summer, so maybe next year. Next weekend we're heading West! Pura Las Vegas aur Grand Canyon dekh ke aayenge.

I agree with you that the concept of Brahman and the concept of the Abrahamic God are two entirely different things! And anyway, the concept of Brahman and Atman was developed over time in the Upanishads. Not *all* streams of Hindu thought have uniform ideas about this. For me, I love the fact that one can be atheist and still be Hindu (the Charavakas for example)...there was space and room for dissent...which we sadly seem to be losing these days.

yup yup yup.I am glad you got what i meant.I am not very knowledgable about vedas or upanishads, but i know more or less, ancient sages had the self realisation of the uniqueness of infinity and self and took to worship symbols as a way to concentrate and look deeper inside.Exactly. I also love the fact that i can be a bhakt of Ram or Krishna and yet question some of their more human actions. I have never seen any of my m friends ever putting any q on The Prophet( PBUH).Its a way of self preservation. remember the middle ages? I wish if we regress, we regress back to upanishad era in term of freedom of religious thought.

@BOLD: Exactly! However, we seem to be getting more and more narrow minded.Have you read Amartya Sen's Argumentative Indian? LOVE that book! It describes how questioning, dissent and difference of opinion was very much a part of Hindu philosophical thinking.
