u knw by listening bhajan's kirtans or any kind of god songs it realy gives us positive energy and peace of mind n at least for a while we forget all sorts of pain and grief...once again thanks dear.

I feel the same way! I just feel so happy and peaceful when I listen to bhajans, especially those of Shri Krishna. And this song was about his natkhat leelas with a gopi on the banks of the Yamuna.

Ghat doivar, ghat kamarevar
There is a water pot on my head and one on my waist. (so we assume that both her hands are occupied and she is defenseless)
Sodi padara, Nandlala
Let go of my chunari, oh son of Nand
Kunitari yeil, avachit pahil
Someone will come and see us and get the wrong idea
Jataa jataa, aag hi lavil sarva sukhancha sounsarala
And they will go and set fire to my happily settled family life

Halata kalata, ghat khindalata
As I walk unsteadily, the waterpot moves about
Lajje varati pani udata
and water falls on my self respect/shame (metaphor)
Nakos hoin mich mala re
Please just leave me be

Kelis khodi, pure evadhi
You have had your share of bothering me, now this is enough
Jovar hasate, manat godi
I can see you laughing at me
Hasuni tuhi ho bajula
Now move aside and let me pass

And it's basically that. I know it seems like she's insulting him, but its sung in a loving voice. It's more like she's pointing out his mischief, but still adores him.
Are there any good bengali bhajans of Krishna that you can link me too? I know that the Hare Rama Hare Krishna society first started in Mayapur, Bengal. And Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is also from there, isn't he? I've always wanted to go there.

Oh, you're so far ahead
I left in the midst of things to have lunch with my parents
And are you talking about Sayanath? He's not even from the entertainment industry! He's so not in his comfort zone. But yeah, he's not very good. I saw his promos a few days before and wasn't impressed.
The "Woh Ladki Hai Kahaan" song is from that Dil Chahata Hai movie. A classic-love it!

I need to listen to the song.
hare rama Hare krishna society u mean ISKON right? they are a tad umm, well weird.

I suggest you read the vaishnab padabalis. Due to the infleunce of Sri chaitanya, the padabali literature really flourished in bengal during middle ages. And The language is not pure bengali, its brajbuli. a sort of literary language created by mixing mahtili, sanskrit and bengali. You should not have much problem listening to it. The language is not pure bengali. Some of the best literary examples of Bhakti based poetry. They are mostly allegorical. Chandidas and Bidyapati are two most famous. first one has more bhakti, second one is more regal in usage of sanskrit language.
Also you can try bhanusingher padabali by Rabindranath tagore, its a lot modern.
From old , try Geeta Govinda if you haven't before. BY jaidev. Its much before Sri Chaitanya and its written in sanskrit. Its the best example of sanskrit poetry where the rhythm is a sing song dance one. Geet Govinda is extensively used in classical dance recitals to express radha-krishna leela.

Oh, here's the link: http://www.aathavanitli-gani.com/Song/Ghat_Doivar_Ghat
The lyrics are also there in devnagari, the written script used for Hindi and Marathi

And I've once considered joining ISKCON (there was a temple that we used to visit last year which i fell in love with-this was before we moved), but I could never do it. There are too many restrictions. Like, you're not even allowed to drink tea as it is in a way a form of intoxicant. And I read Prabhupada's A Guide to Self Realization. LOVED IT; his thoughts on bhakti, the gopikas, and the varnashrama system are so profound, but I don't agree with everything he says. Maybe it's just my American background, but I am not a proponent for communism.
And I appreciate the fact that Caucasian and former christian members are trying to absorb as much of Indian culture as possible, but they sometimes misinterpret parts of the Bhagavad Gita and mispronounce everything. So, idk. I love ISKCON, but I have some reservations.

And I will definitely look into the literature which you have suggested. There must be english translations online, right? And I've read bits and pieces from the Geeta Govindam but not the whole thing. I can't read Sanskrit, lol. Maybe there might be youtube videos where I might be able to listen to it then.

And yeah love that song, the famous step...love it!

Lol, idk then. I didn't follow IPL, my Dad did! hehe
And omg! I wrote his name wrong. It's Sanath Jayasuriya. He's a Sri Lankan criketeer.
And yup! Saif and Sonali were so cute in it! And I also loved how they showed all the different kinds of old fashioned movie stereotypes. it was the first one to do so! Om Shanti Om, the song, Hum Hai Rahi Pyaar Ke, and stuff like that came afterwards!

UMM, for someone with Indian background, i would prefer to stay with roots. Coz at the end of the day, ISCON and everything else, ultimately bounds us a lot to the restrictions and rules and the idea of one God, the Abhrahamic ideas. They need to go a long way before grasping the idea of religious flexibility and mind over body. Its good for those who find peace with it, anything which can give mental peace and stability is worth applauding, but I would not choose such a way. Your reservations , i doubt its because of your american background. I have them too. I would like to have a faith where i can get to question even my God.
I have read prabhupada's english translation of BG Gita, i personally prefer the one from ramakrishna mission. Its very difficult to understand gita, with his multilayered, highly philosophical thinking. Forget caucasians and christians, you can count in finger how many Indians can actually interpret gita properly. But its such a source of strength.
ISCON has a nice rathayatra in kolkata, its one of the grandest. I have been their. Its a wondeful feeling, pulling the ratha with 1000s of people together.

I am not sure, but people have done a lot of work on padabali, coz its an important aspect of Vaishnava literature that developed during the bhakti movement, so there should be some translation. GeetaGivinda definitely there is english translation online.
