It was 2:00 am, and here she was downing another shot of tequila, she looked around the club, people all round her were busy partying, dancing hard in the loud music, her head felt a bit fuzzy, not to mention everything looked a little blurred to her, yeah she has drunk too much as usual…but she doesn't care of the reactions that her family will have when they will see her in this state…..doesn't care if DS will scold her again for being so drunk, doesn't care if her mother gives her disapproving glances, and hell she doesn't care at all if her newly-found-elder-sister –Manyata mocks at her seeing her like this….she doesn't give a damn to anyone, for no one has ever given a damn about her.
Here she was all alone in this club, getting drunk, and no one gives a damn, Vijay bhai was supposed to accompany her tonight, but even he ditched her, said he had to go out of town for some important business, it was an order from his mother and he cannot ignore it. K and L had also bailed out on her, giving some excuses like they will have to go to their cousin's wedding tomorrow, and so they can't stay out late tonight. Too many marriages are happening these days…. Sweet isn't it? Couples oh so much in love tying knots? She absolutely hates it. Guess, this is what happens when someone is unhappy with their own life, others happiness seems to be like poison for them.
She is Rajkumari Jaynandini, whom everyone thinks is probably one of the most luckiest girl in the world, for isn't she a princess, who has everything she wants, every comfort she desires is given to her even before she thinks about it, everything she wants is kept in front of her on a silver platter? She never had to struggle in her entire life to get something she wanted; as she always got what she wanted, but still she is unhappy…isn't it surprising? A princess who supposedly has everything she wants is unhappy….yes, she is unhappy but did that matter? Has anyone ever bothered to find out if she is happy or not? No never, let alone her friends, her family is also not bothered about her happiness.
As Jay asked for another drink, the events of the entire day flashed in front of her, today was perhaps one of her worst days, in her life, lately she has been having a lot of worst days, well today was another one added to the list. When Uday had asked her whether he can accompany Manyata and her to their shopping, she had agreed happily, for she wanted to spend some time with Uday, and to spend time with him she was even ready to tolerate her Manyata jiji. But that Uday, he…he has changed, his eyes only looks for Manyata nowadays, previously he at least acknowledged Jay, but now he ignores her in such a way as if she is some dust in the Royal Palace and if he ever opens his mouth to talk to her its only for reprimanding…..Why Uday? She questioned for the thousandth time in her mind…"why are you behaving like that with me? I had always been there with you whenever you needed me and now when you have found Manyata you treat me like dirt?"…..Jay sometimes wonders whether he is still after Devgarh's throne or he has genuinely fallen in love with her wild Manyata jiji…..even though she hates to admit it, Jay knows it's the latter, Uday has indeed fallen in love with Manyata . Uday's love for Manyata is like poison for Jay, it takes every ounce of her strength to control her rage when she sees Uday caring for Manyata, supporting Manyata….sometimes she can't believe that Uday can be such a fool, going after a girl who cares only for that good-for-nothing Mall worker Akash ,oops now jobless Akash….here she, Jay can give anything to see that concern and care in the eyes of Uday for her , and there he was wasting all his love on a girl who gives a damn about her. I suppose love does make people go weird, and Uday is just another victim of this disease.
She hates, Manyata jiji , loathes her from the deepest corner of her heart, it was because of Manyata that her engagement with Uday was broken, it was because of her that her family has forgotten that she exists, it was because of her that she has lost Uday.
Entire life she had spent under the looming shadow of a lost elder sister, who was also the heir to the throne, her family seemed to have been more concerned about her lost elder sister than her…while they did not even have any clue whether Manyata was alive or not, they still loved her more, while she, Jay ,stood in flesh and blood in front of them but was ignored, they made her the spare, she was like a filler, Manyata is not there? So Jay was there as a replacement, Manyata has been found ? Jay move over, your role has ended, you may go to hell. When hers and Uday's roka was called off just because Manyata has been found, she was humiliated and shattered, but no one, not even her dad , with whom she was so close, had come and comforted her , or even asked if she was alright.
Today when they returned home from shopping, Jay had noticed that when Manyata had entered the house, she was wearing a beautiful diamond and sapphire bracelet, she was pretty sure that Uday had gifted her with that, if it had been a few days ago she would have said confidently that her jiji will throw that gift out of the window, but now it's different she has seen a silly smile etched on the face of her jiji's, which had confirmed her worst fears,Manyata also likes Uday….may be even loves him?...no, it's not possible, Manyata still loves her chawl wala boyfriend Akash…but whatever it is there is a bond between Uday and Manyata, which she absolutely hates. She will have to break this bond, for she cannot let Uday go to Manyata. Why is it that everyone wants Manyata? What's there in her that she does not have? She is pretty, intelligent, knows everything about politics, she is the perfect princess…but still she was not good enough? Still that wild ill-mannered Manyata was better than her according to everyone? Why? Just because she is the elder one? That's it ?...maybe that's the only reason…Jay sighed and turned her thoughts towards Udayveer, did she really loved him? Does she want him because she loves him? May be yes may be no, but yes she desires him, for he is like a forbidden fruit, he is something out of bounds, and Jay likes to own things thats forbidden, there was also another reason for her wanting Uday…. she does not take rejection kindly, yes Uday had rejected her the day her engagement with him was broken, and from then on she was hell bent on making Uday hers in every possible manner….but each time she tries to get close to him, he goes further away from her.
" Why can't Uday love me? He has known me forever, we are so alike but still he prefers Manyata jiji over me?" Jay thought feeling sad "I guess, it's because I am the bad girl"…as she said that aloud, she felt everything becoming black in front of her eyes, she will lose her conscious any moment now and before she does she must get out of the club and get into her car anyhow, she rubbed her eyes, and staggered towards the door of the club, and just when she was about to reach the door and she felt herself falling , she was caught by a strong pair of arms, she found herself saying weakly, "please leave me, I have to go home" and then she remembered nothing.
As Jay woke up, she saw she was lying on a bed which was scattered with clothes and papers, she sat up slowly, her head was throbbing badly, and she was feeling groggy. The first thing that came into her mind was what is the time? She looked at her watch, it was 5:00 am….so she was knocked out for like 2 hours may be, by all the alcohol she had…..now the next question is where is she ?and who brought her here? She looked around herself, it looks like a penthouse…..she got up from the bed and tried to steady herself, her throbbing head was not helping her either, she slowly made out of the room , and there in the living room she found her "saviour" sleeping peacefully on a couch, he was a guy of about 24 may be, quite good looking, in fact, Jay noted ….as she stood in front of him, she debated whether to wake him up, or get out of the room quietly and run home, for in any case she is really late, and if she does not return home right now, she will get into a big trouble….she decided to do the later, as she tip- toed towards the door and was about to open it, she heard a deep voice saying "going somewhere? Didn't even bother to thank…that's what you get for being kind here I suppose"….Jay almost jumped out of her skin hearing the voice, she turned quickly which made her head throb even more badly, and she winced in pain. She frowned and looked at the person who made her jump like that….yeah there standing in front of her was the guy who was sleeping on the couch moments ago, wearing track pants and sweatshirt , now that he was awake and standing, Jay scrutinized him thoroughly, he was really tall, must be 6 ft or something, he had a lean ,well toned body, and had a striking face…a face one cannot possibly forget in a hurry…he had a face which looked like a combination of angel and devil, if there was ever a possible combination of both.… and his eyes ..they were a shade hard to describe, it looked green gray like a stormy sea, whatever that means ……he held a glass in his hand , which he offered Jay, and said "Drink this, it will help you recover from the hangover", Jay took the glass from his hand and said
" who are you? And where am I?"
"Hi, I am Aditya …Aditya Chauhan… and you are in my pent house, it's the same hotel in whose club you got knocked out after drinking too much……now may I know your name? For being your savour I must know something about you"
Jay gulped and thought " God! She is in a terrible mess now, she fainted at the club infront of so many people? What if the press found out? she must talk to the manager now…she needs to do damage control"
"Helloo?? Still waiting for your reply" came a voice breaking her thoughts.
"Hi I am Jaynandini, and thanks for helping me…but I must go now, else I will get into an awful trouble at home…" Saying this Jay put the now empty glass in her hand on the table and quickly opened the door and made her way to the elevator. She entered the elevator and pressed the ground floor button, as the door of the elevator was closing she saw a hand stopping the door , it was Aditya, looked like he was not leaving her so easily. Jay did not say anything, and stood silently as the elevator moved downwards. Aditya decided to break the silence, " don't worry, I told your driver yesterday that you have taken ill and so it was best that you take rest here …. I think he is still waiting with your car outside the hotel"
Jay murmured thanks to him and as the elevator door opened, she hurried out of the hotel, looking around furtively if there was any press or not. She then almost ran to her waiting car. As she was about to enter the car, a thought struck her, this absolute stranger named Aditya Chauhan had helped her when she was in such a bad state and till now she has not even properly talked with him, and has not even thanked him in a civilized manner, she must take his contact number or address so that she can properly thank him by sending a gift or may be invite him to the palace…Jay turned around and saw Aditya still standing behind her, she said " Well may I ask you something?"
"Sure" he replied
"I was wondering if it will be alright if I ask for your contact number or address"
" Hmmm….sorry dear, you see I don't have any permanent address, I am leaving this town today, and I am a vagabond by nature so I don't know where will I go next….as for contact number I don't keep a mobile…I contact people when I want to."
"Then how am I supposed to meet you again?" Jay blurted out before she could stop herself, she didn't know why she said that, she just did it without thinking anything… the moment she said those words, she felt like slapping herself, she felt so embarrassed that she wanted to disappear from there as soon as possible.
Aditya did not look shocked at all, he just grinned and said "It was fate that brought us face to face, and if we are destined to meet, we will definitely meet again, may be very soon." With that Aditya walked towards the hotel, but suddenly he stopped in his tracks, turned around and said loudly
" You know, you are not a bad girl….never ever think like that"
Jay was shocked and surprised hearing those words, she had never mentioned to anyone about her" bad girl " thought, then how come he knew, Jay wondered…but before she could collect herself and ask Aditya, he had disappeared. Jay sat in her car and as the car sped to the palace, she decided to call the hotel manager and tell him to suppress the news of her terrible behaviour at the club last night, so that the press and media does not make a spectacle of her.
"Hello, Mr Sharma, this is Rajkumari Jaynandini speaking"
"Yes Rajkumariji, tell me how can I help you" replied a very polite voice
"Whatever yesterday happened at your club, make sure the press does not get a whiff about it, do whatever it takes, but make sure it does not leak"
"Don't worry Rajkumariji, it has already been taken care of…someone already called me last night and told me to suppress the matter….so nothing happened in our club yesterday"
"May I know who called you?"
"It was an anonymous call, so I am sorry I cant help you Rajkumariji"
Manyata kept her phone down looking surprised, "an anonymous caller who made sure her reputation won't be affected? But who is that person? Guess she will never know."
As her car reached the Mahal, she warned her driver not to mention anyone about yesterday's mishap, and then went inside the Mahal.
The atmosphere inside the Mahal was calm and quiet….so no one knows about her club fiasco yet…Jay heaved a sigh of relief and tried to tip toe to her room, but as she passed the dining hall she saw everyone already sitting for breakfast….DS had caught sight of her and was telling her to sit for breakfast….Jay looked around helplessly and went to join her family at the table.
"Where have you been Jay, you look as if you have been out all night…Is it true?" DS asked her sternly.
Jay hesitated… and said, "DS…actually, I went to a club last night and then I became ill there, so a friend took me to her place, and I spent the night there"
"Are you alright now? Should I call Doctor saab? And you need to stop your late outings" DS said looking concerned
"I am fine DS, just need to sleep a bit…and I am sorry, this won't happen again"..DS merely nodded and got busy talking to Menka, her aunt.
Jay saw everyone eating silently, she was expecting that Manyata would laugh and make some silly comment on her, but she was just looking at her, a bit too much intently, as if she knows that Jay was hiding something…Jay felt uncomfortable with her glance…she quietly got up , made her way to her room, telling everyone that she needed some sleep.
"Why is Manyata jiji behaving so weirdly with me? What's with those glances? Has she found out her club fiasco by any chance? If she has I hope she keeps quiet…I must find out the truth, but tactfully" Jay thought….the other odd thing about today besides Manyata's behaviour towards Jay was the absence of Uday at the breakfast table…"Now why is he absent? He just loves to hang around the palace all day round, ever since Manyata has come, so why absent today? Has he gone to Jaigarh for some business or was it because he was upset with Manyata about something ? I hope it's the latter" Jay thought sourly.
Jay was sitting on her bed still lost in her thoughts, when she heard someone opening her bedroom door and entering, she looked up and saw Manyata was standing in front of her…Jay frowned and looked away, her head was still throbbing but not as badly as before and she was in no mood to fight with anyone…she wished Manyata would go away ….but it looked like Manayata was in mood of leaving her alone.
"Jay, what has happened? Is everything alright? " Manyata asked sitting beside her
"Why? What will happen to me? I am fine as always, nothing ever happens to me…and please stop showing your fake concern for me" Jay replied rudely.
"I am not showing any concern for you, fake or otherwise….I know you lied to everyone at the breakfast table….and I also saw your troubled face that's why I asked"
"Jiji, I really don't know what you are talking about…just go away, go to your dear friend Udayveer, he must have come here by now….go to him and then together you can have fun…may be he will buy you another expensive gift like the bracelet you are wearing."
"Jaynandini, do you think I have made friendship with Uday so that he can buy me expensive gifts? You should have known by now that I don't care about how much a gift costs, I care about the feelings that come with the gifts when someone gives them to you…just like I kept Akash's gift because although to everyone it was an ordinary cheap watch, but to me it was a watch worth million for it was given to me out of love…and you were talking about this bracelet right? I kept it because for the first time I felt that Uday has genuinely reached out to me as a friend, and I appreciate it with my whole heart, and will never hurt him by rejecting his gift"
"As much as I would like to say that your sentimental words brings tears to my eyes, but I cant, for they really suck …please give me a break from these stupid emotional craps ….just to remind you , you had thrown away that Valentine's day gift that UV brought to you….now why did you do that? UV forgot to put his love in that did he?" Jay knew she had hit the vulnerable spot in Manyata with her last line, Manyata faltered for a moment…but quickly composed herself…"hmm she is becoming good at it…controlling emotions that is…..so Jiji is becoming a princess finally" Jay observed quietly
"Jay, you have no idea how sorry I am that I threw his gift away….but the time was not right….I was angry at him….he had made Akash lose his job, his house….Uday can spite Akash, he can be annoyed with him, even hate him, but he has absolutely no right to snatch someone's livelihood away….I don't think I can ever forgive Uday for what he did to Akash...and keeping that gift would have meant forgiving him for his heinous act."
"Wow jiji, you cannot forgive UV for what he did to Akash…yet you accept his friendship…what games are you playing Jiji?"
"This is the problem with you Jay, you think everything is a game….let me tell you something….come out of this thought….there is more in life than just plotting, planning and playing dirty politics….UV doing wrong to Akash and my friendship with UV is not related…and I plan to keep it that way…everyone makes mistakes in their lives Jay, but they deserve a second chance…and I have given UV a second chance."
"May be Jiji, I love to plot, plan, etc.etc….but I hate to break this news to you, your dear friend UV is also doing the same…may be you are not playing any game but can't you see the game he is playing with you? Are you blind Jiji? He is slowly growing on you…he is making sure that through friendship he will slowly win your heart and then you will forget Akash completely."
"If he is playing the "game" as you are saying, then I will let him play….Akash will never go out of my heart…but that does not mean nobody else can create their own special place in my heart…as for playing games is concerned, I want to see how long Uday can play it, if necessary I am ready to join his game, but I will not make any move, I will let him make all the moves…and when the right time comes it will me who will say 'game over'"
Jay was taken aback with Manyata's reply, but she was not a person to give up, she replied.."So my dear Jiji is also ready to play games, not so innocent as you look are you?"
"Who said I am innocent? I don't even plan to be one…yes I will join a game certainly when required but will never initiate one…here lies the difference between you and me….oh by the way , I know you thought changing the subject by discussing UV will make me forget why I came here, so my dear little sister let me tell you, you are wrong, I still remember my real reason for coming here."
"Jiji, I told you nothing happened , and I did not lie, everything I said was true" Jay said and suddenly winced her headache is coming back…she must sleep now…if only Manyata would go.
"hmmm, got drunk yesterday again didn't you? That's why your head is paining? Did you by any chance spent the night in club you went?"
"How did you know ? ", Jay asked suspiciously
"Guessed it…so I was right"
"Yeah you are right…I passed out in the club and then someone helped me there, I stayed at the hotel till I was alright and then came home" Jay said sulkily but was careful enough to omit Aditya out of her account..she did not want to create another mess.
"Ok..at last you have told the truth, but only part of it , I think…anyway I will make myself do with that only….the part which you want to keep secret, I won't pry in that…I respect your privacy"
"Jiji, why did you want to know all this? I mean why did you come and talk to me in the first place?"
"You know Jay when I saw you today, I felt you needed to release some of your thoughts that were burdening you…may be I am not your friend….but even if you share your thoughts or anger with a stranger you will feel much lighter…I think you know what I am saying."
Jay could not say anything else to Manyata, but nodded her head, coming to think of it, she did feel lighter, as if by bickering and arguing with Manyata a truckload of burden has come off her shoulder…may be this is what being sisters meant…Manyata knew she was in pain and needed support without being told…and Jay felt at peace sharing her secret with Manyata…it was not like she had never shared her thoughts with anyone before…Vijay bhai always lends his ear to whatever she wanted to say and even supports her…but the peace she felt after today's conversation with Manyata was something different…for the first time Jay realised the value of a sister…"it will be pretty hard for me to hate Manyata jiji too much now" Jay thought.
She saw Manyata getting up and preparing to leave Jay's room…before she could go …Jay reached out and held Manyata's hand stopping her , and said " Jiji please don't tell anyone about last night"
Manyata smiled and replied " I wont Jay, I told you everyone deserves a second chance…consider this to be your another chance to do what is right…I know you are not a bad girl….now get some sleep or your headache will increase."
As Manyata went away, Jay placed her head on the pillow, the words " you are not a bad girl" buzzed in her head…two people said these same words to her, and both these people were like strangers to her at first but now have become her saviours, one literally saved her yesterday and another emotionally saved her today…with this thought Jay closed her eyes ….somewhere in her dreams she saw Manyata helping her getting up as she fell down a rocky road and then suddenly as she stood up and looked up she saw she was looking at Aditya Chauhan….Jay smiled in her sleep and turned over.
PS: There is going to be ManVeer next part...I can promise that 😉
