first @TM! I am really glad you wrote the post you did!
second, i agree with all the comments and discussions that happened thus far ...so i will refrain from becoming a broken record by repeating it.
-i haven't notice much problems with the forum bashing abhishek, but like vish mentioned ...we have the few stray members that really do not post while thinking what the effect their words would have on others or the actors. a part of the fanaticism and generation of these thoughtless posts occurred, i think, when the forum went weeks without a mod. the amount of unbalanced opinions and posts had an effect, and as DEK's popularity rose - it just became a little more unfriendly towards anything aakash. although, there is a semblance of calm and peace now as compared to then ... so hopefully with more aware and respectful members being proactive in the forum (like in this thread), we can appropriately guide conversations and not give attention to those that are ill-conceived. it's the only way to deter unhealthy conversation, i believe.
-as for the the casting, i think the plot is really catching, and so no actor would really turn it down - while a production house would only chose the most talented actors to showcase their work/product. in this case, they thought they hit lotto with such a talented actor, abhishek, but it unfortunately had a reverse reaction. i think abhishek already has too many projects under him (on star, etc) that he is not able to project the character of aakash as well as he could have. the rawness of priyal's acting, it has such youth, also unbalances any chemistry of acting, etc that they can create on screen. like a different response said - UVeer is Ashish's baby & he's doing more than justice to his role. he's literally made UVeer multidimensional and layered. the small nuances he adds just keep us captivated
I will digress from saying more, because i wrote a post of my own "why this kolaveri di" last week where i basically listed the main problem with DEK .. it's production house and creative heads. They did not create any conviction or purpose for a "successful, hardworking guy (articles had described aakash as such)" but instead he seems very easily manipulated and a pushover -so easily depressed. it's really just disappointing -they haven't shaped or fully developed the chawl life, individuals (chiki, soni -her brain gets left in dust at times like during "bhoot aaya", ammaji, and aakash), and those memories. Also, if they try going the same route as many indian serials (good guy & good girl overcome obstacles & persevere together. it's like saas-bahu serial where the royals are the saas). Also, the uniqueness of such a story line would be lost & the possibility for the fantasy fiction genre of indian television would be quieted before it even began 😕
