Hahahaha! I am finally updating! I actually wanted to update it on Thursday but the interned gave me such a dhoka 😭 Then on Friday I got distracted 😆 Then on Saturday I was out of town 😛 and then on Sunday, the chapter wasn't ending the way I wanted it to 😕 But at least I wrote an OS!!! Acha enough rambles! Here goes Chapter 2! Once again, like this post to be PMed about the next update!
Chapter 2
"And so, what's in it for me?"
Uday sat on the chair with a serious expression on his face. He was completely ignoring the white paper that he was asked to read for 'details'. Instead, his attention was completely on the man who was sitting opposite of him.
"Like I said, your job details are on the paper. Read them and if there is anything you are not comfortable with, we might discuss it." The man with the glasses was smiling but the sense of authority was so apparent only a fool would've been unable to notice it.
And Uday was no fool.
"Yeah, I heard that but what's in it for me? Right now I am enjoying a very good job, my house is small but comfortable, and I can do anything I like because I don't have a family or relatives to keep track of my every action. Why would I want to give them up?" Uday smiled a little at the elder man. 'Well if I am going down, I'd rather go down with a fight.'
"Because Mr. Uday Thakkar, you have no choice. The job you are so fondly talking about is temporary and you could be terminated at any second. Your 'house' isn't exactly yours. You are just acting as a care-taker and regarding your free as bird actions, well you and I both know that in the money you are currently earning, there aren't many things that you can do." The man replied gently and leaned back in his chair. His smile got a little deeper.
"Oh well, it's not like I didn't expect you to know these things." Uday rolled his eyes and picked up the paper. Just one look at the contents was enough to tell him that he was being offered more than his required duties.
"Just one question, why me?" Uday put down the paper and asked in a genuinely confused tone. The man chuckled.
"Well, that's one valid question that I wasn't expecting." Uday didn't smile.
"The too many zeroes in my salary don't appeal to me until I know the reason why I am being given them."
"You are one hell of a person Mr. Uday." The man gave him a deep, inspecting look.
"Yeah I've been told that multiple times."
"And you'd be a fool to think that we are offering you such a delicate job without doing proper research of your background." The man's smile vanished.
"Papers can often lie Dr.Shiv." Uday replied coolly.
"We like to take our chances."
"Not something I'd expect Royals to do." Uday smiled sarcastically.
"And that's exactly why,not everyone is a Royal." Dr. Shiv replied calmly before getting up and leaving the room.
Uday gave out a large sigh. His mind was going through a furious debate and his expressions were giving that away.
"What the hell man?! Ye seedhi saadhi zindagi mein U-turns bagair warnings kyun ajate hain?" He got up and started pacing in the large room.
"Bodyguard for the princesses?" He stopped and considered the position. He had no idea that 3 weeks after the 'incident' he was being called in this large royal office to be offered such a job. It's not like he had done something extra heroic, he had just done something any normal responsible citizen would've done.
"Ye rajwade bhi na, kisi bhi cheez se impress hojate hain." He rolled his eyes. He picked up the paper with the details of the job. No doubt that the package as a whole was impressive. The salary was four times more than his current job was offering, there wasn't much he had to to except accompany the princesses whenever they went out, he got his own apartment and car and he didn't have to wear a typical uniform.
"Koi pagal bhi bata de ke they are trying desperately for me to say yes." He shook his head but gave the paper a thoughtful look.
"Itna bura bhi package nahin hai...the only problem is the word 'princesses'. Wo larki, Jainandini, she wasn't bad. Shakal se tou nahin lagta that she'd be a problem for me but her sister? Wo bhi us jaisi hui tou? Aur usse choti hui toh?! I'm not a baby sitter!" He mumbled to himself and ran a hand through his dark hair.
"So, what's the verdict?" Dr. Shiv had entered the room. Uday was too lost in his thoughts to acknowledge his entrance. He looked at him and gave a somewhat satisfied nod.
"Well, it's not bad but I just have one question, how many princesses are there?"
"Oh just two. But you'd be working for only one. The other princess is, well, she'd be none of your concern." Dr. Shiv clearly avoided the topic. It struck Uday as strange because he was being asked to be a bodyguard for both princesses and yet he had to offer his services to one? 'Ye rajwade...' He mentally rolled his eyes.
"If so then fine, I'll take this job. It doesn't seem that bad." Uday nodded in approval. Dr. Shiv smiled at his acceptance.
"Well that's all good. The paperwork is all ready; you just have to sign them. All the minor details will be taken care of by us. Nothing scary or wrong, I assure you." Dr. Shiv added when he saw Uday raise his eyebrows.
"Oh no, I was just wondering that's it? No instructions, no classes or anything of that sort." Uday shook his head a little and explained. Dr. Shiv chuckled.
"Well Mr. Uday, I think you are educated enough to know how to act in front of royals, this much I am sure of. And regarding 'anything else', well I'll just say don't do anything irrational in front of the young princess. She occasionally gets a little carried away but I'm sure you can deal with it." His smile was mysterious when he said. Not that it scared Uday, it just increased his interest in the 'job'.
'Interesting...I see mysteries in this job. Maza aega.'
"Ah, I'll take good care of that. So, shall we start the paperwork?"
