Part Seven Waking up to Udayveer
Doctor Saab and Dadisa accompanied Udayveer as he carried Manyata up to her room.
" Aaram se," Doctor Saab said.
He did not need to say anything as Udayveer gently laid her on the bed. He hesitantly stood back as Doctor Saab started his work. He told a servant to call the lab and to get his kit.
Dadisa and Udayveer looked on for a few minutes before Komal arrived. She was concerned since she had not seen Manyata in awhile.
"Kya hua meri bacchi ko?," she exclaimed.
"Woh behosh hogi thi," Udayveer stated softly.
Doctor Saab took Udayveer aside.
"Tum inke saath the. Kuch tension wali baat huyi thi kya?( You were with her, did anything stressful come up?)
" Rajkumari has heard the truth from Murari,"Udayveer admitted.
Doctor Saab sighed.
"This girl has been through a lot. She is dehydrated and it doesn't seem like she has been taking good care of herself. We'll have to monitor her for a few days. RajMata will not want her to go to the hospital. The lab is here now. I will get some samples sent out in case. However we know the main cause of all this is stress. Aap ko unka khayal rakna hai,"
Udayveer nodded firmly.
Everyone awaited for Doctor Saab to finish his check up. The blood was drawn and sent to the lab. Downstairs the guests gradually dispersed.
" Rajkumari Manyata ko dehydration aur stress hai. We need to monitor her for a few days. She needs to eat and drink better. Her blood pressure is low, we need to encourage fluids to keep her system stabilized.
Komal and Dadisa went in first to help Manyata more comfortable. They took off her heavy jewelry and helped her change into a nightgown. She was barely awake during this.
Komal stroked her head and kissed her forehead. Dadisa caressed her cheek and hair. They tucked her in like they would a small child. She snuggled in the bedding like a small child would. They decided they would take turns that night to watch over her. Udayveer volunteered the morning. The waiting throughout the night would be tough for him. However he wanted to be the first to see her awaken. He hoped his wish would be granted.
A few hours later he entered the room to relieve Dadisa. He had gone home to shower and change. He had dozed off a few hours but he kept thinking of her. He did not know why.
Dadisa gave him a considerate look. She was proud of him.
She glanced over at Manyata.
"I have full faith that you are the one that will take care of Manyata even when I am no longer here," she stated firmly.
He shook his head.
"Dadisa don't talk like this. Even you have to live much longer to see all of your dreams for Manyata come true," Udayveer declared.
She gave him a bright smile before she exited the room. He turned towards Manyata. She was still asleep.
He sat down on the armchair beside her bed and simply gazed at her.
It was coming close to 8am when she opened her eyes she gazed around. The sun came into her eyes. She nearly gasped to upon seeing Udayveer sitting in her room so early in the day.
"Tum kab aaye?," she exclaimed.
He smiled.
"When did I leave?," he quipped.
She glanced at what she was wearing and then looked at him horrified.
"Don't tell me you stayed the whole night!"
" I never said I was here the whole night," he quipped.
She wanted to scream but felt like she had no energy.
He got concerned for her and put his hands on her shoulders. She tried to push him away but did not have enough strength.
"Manyata dekho you need to relax. Doctor Saab said you need to take it easy for a few days," Udayveer said softly.
She started to cry. He felt his heart starting to tear for the first time since he had scarred her all those years ago.
" Pehle batao, kya hua kal raat ko!," she wailed.
He grabbed her gently and put a hand on her cheek.
"Kuch aisa vasa nahin hua tha. Komal Auntie and Dadisa got you ready for bed. I didn't see anything," he assured her.
" Saachi?"
He nodded in affirmation.
She leaned against his chest. He caressed her hair. For a moment it was pure bliss as if time had stopped for them. Then they both realized their position and pulled away.
" Hatto pare. I need to freshen up," she hissed getting up.
She almost tripped but he steadied her, then she went into the washroom.
He shook his head after her.
An hour later she was dressed in a green kurti and jeans, she emerged from her room intending to head to the kitchen to grab something as everyone else must have already eaten.
A servant came with a trolley loaded with food.
"Is someone having a breakfast meeting? This is so much food," Manyata exclaimed.
" Nahin rajkumari, yeh sab aap ke liye hai. It is the order of RajMata,"
" I can't eat all this. I will eat a bit then you can take it back," she stated.
" We have to make sure you eat well so you get better," the servant insisted.
"Who will make me eat all this?," Manyata asked.
" Hum hain na," Udayveer declared stepping into her view.
She glowered at him and turned to go back in the room. Udayveer indicated for the servant to bring it in the room.
