- You have done nothing great, it's disappointing

- You are fat, get controll and work it out

- Oh, nothing great eventhough it's more then we expected.

- makes no sense

Some of the humilating remarks people make, such comments are more discouraging then anything, but some people take it in positive spirit and give back big time. Why? as humilation impacts in positive motivation to prove a point.

This is the approach taken by many to get best of person by humilating him /her. Does it work😕

Can humilation act as an motivation ?

Great Debate 👏 Will edit later😳 but depends on your personality, humiliation works for some and for others it drives them to depression and to retreat back into their comfort zone. 😳

Som will prove that other wrong, others will feel more embarrassedand hide away.😳

Well a teacher/Boss can say that,

Depends on situation and individuals, some will show them you have got it wrong and work harder, others however will give up and get fed uppp....😳

- You are fat, get controll and work it out

Again 2 ways:

-Loose weight and show them who is fatter,

or others sulk more, depressed tht they cant shed weight even though they have tried and become slobs and then retreat to comfort zone and stuff more food.

- Oh, nothing great eventhough it's more then we expected.

Answer back, if i is nothing great and more than expected, why u complaining, shut up...😳 is answer to give back, 😉

Yes its more about own back an showing them they are wrong, not motivation for self as u feel it, it is more about proving someone wrong and getting one over them.

This is the approach taken by many to get best of person by humilating him /her. Does it work😕

Nooops Not at all does it always work. Sometimes you show them in professional world they are wrong, daily life not always and school etc noops u give up...sometimes as if know u do consistently well n u get bad mar u r angry an yes determined to do better, so can work but negatve as well, as u begin to diubt urself, yes i am crap....and so on..n just dnt bother trying after tht.

Works more in professional careers where u show ur boss they r wrong, an can work ...but depends on own personlity.

I'll say it depends on the personality of the person who is being humiliated, what's the relation of the humiliated with the humiliator and the level of humiliation.
If a coach says to one of his player that he looks fat and should work on it, the player will take it as an advice and try to be physically more fit.
If a classmate says to a bully that he is fat then the bully will beat the crap out of him.
If a guy tells his gf that she looks fat, she'll start looking for the new girl that's in her bf's life and will start sulking if she doesn't find any.
If a stranger says to someone that s/he looks fat then he'll get 'Who asked you' or something like that as an answer.
So, it all depends. 😛 Btw, some might say that being fat is a sign of prosperity and there are some who might say fat girls have a long line of guys for them.😉

As teachers one of the first things we are trained in is positive feedback. Gone are the days when a teacher could write in a student's report card - "lazy bugger who needs to pull up his socks or else will fail". 😆

In all my years as a student and as a teacher, I have yet to see long-lasting, positive effects of humiliation. Some people might react to it on impulse and there might be a short-lived favourable reaction, but on the whole humiliation only achieves what is meant to - making matters worse.

Having said that, here are some real comments made by teachers in the NYC public school system. Mind you, the teachers were severely reprimanded for these!

Your son has reached rock bottom and started to dig.

I would not allow this student to breed.

You son consistently sets low personal standards and then fails to achieve them.

When your daughter's IQ reaches 50, she should sell.

Your son is depriving a village somewhere, of an "idiot".

If this student were any more stupid, he'd have to be watered twice a week.

Think and ask yourself - would I have liked / would I like to see this on my / my child's report card???

there is no humiliation here.. its either constructive or non-constructive criticism... unless there is gain involved people dont respond to criticism.. today they dont care...

Really good topic and excellent contributions.

I agree that its the relationship between the one doing the critisizing and the one receiving it that determines how it will be taken on or not as the case may be.

What also is important is the critisizer's intention.

If its good - then the critism should be delivered in a perticular way.

If it is delivered unkindly - assume the critisizer is not really your friend or well wisher.

At the end of the day - even if youre trying to improve someone for their own benefit - have regard to that person's dignity.

If not - then youre just an opinionated bully - no more no less.
