Yesterday one case was closed here in Toronto , where , as a result of drunk driving a young person died . Responsible driver got 18 months prison.

Do you think this punishment is OK?

Car is a kind of weapon when handled under influence of drugs or alcohol.

In other cases , when a person is killed. case is taken as murder. Do you think by this logic any killing in drunk driving situation should be taken as murder or any injury as an attempted murder?

drunk driving should be treated like any other crime.. doesnt have to be to hard on this..i would say have strict driving for anyone older than 65 as well. there was a case in boston where a 65 year old mistakenly stepped on the gas instead of brakes and ran over 13 kids... every crime has to be taken in its correct form.. and extent... teenagers are another cateogeries of idiots... so all this needs to be taken care of .. nothing to single out drunk driving....

I absolutely think it should be treated as murder or attempted murder. It's the only way to get people to think long and hard before drinking and driving. I think too many people (not to mention celebrities) get away too easy with DUI offenses, and it's about time DUI offenses were treated with the level of seriousness they deserve. I mean, in a sense, when someone drinks and drives, they are essentially "attempting to murder" because there is that risk that they will run over someone and kill them. Making the deliberate decision to drive after having downed too many, in my mind, is equal to making a deliberate decision to put someone else's life in jeopardy. So yes, they deserve the same level of punishment as murderers. A little harsh, I know...but hey, they're asking for it.

A car with a drunkard behind the wheel is like loaded gun. 15 years ago I was hit by one and was lucky enough to walk out of the car with only a fractured arm. This drunk driver came out of his car asked if I was ok and drove away ..!!! Most states in the U.S have strict DUI laws and if someone dies as a result of DWI, it may be considered 2nd degree murder.

Drivers using cell phones, eating, reading maps or directions or putting on make up while driving are dangerous too.

I am MADD and agree with all others about this issue. Nothing more to add.

Lock them up, take away their license for good.

yes, it shd be. everyone knows what cld happen if they drink and drive. if the punishment is made more sternous, i feel the rate of drunk driving will decline. In america it is considered a felony. i remember once a drunk teen killed a pregnant woman. he was tried and sentenced for killing two people.

merely 18 months for nipping out a life is not okay. it's grossly unfair.

i go with all others, its a murder, and law should be strict on teens, so as other fools dont drive their way to prison.
