Said the great poet Mirza Ghalib - LANGDA with its touch of tanginess, is like a beautiful woman with a hint of "spice" - namkeen as they would say in Hindi. (Multi-faceted would be a poor translation in English).

how can you recognize from just looking at the mango that its hapus, sudar langda or alphonso? that picture of mango is so mango, i mean you cannot tell the variety
Raunaq, I wish I could take you on a tour of India during the mango season. You would learn to differentiate, too. 😛 Of course, you have already shown extremely good taste in opting for the langda 😉

Mangoe is Botanically known as Mangifera Indica, it is rich in vitamins A, B1, B2 and C, and is believed to have originated in India over 4,000 years ago. The fruit finds mention in the Ramayana and the Mahabharata.
India is the largest exporter of mangoes in the world. It is followed by Mexico and Pakistan. Andhra Pradesh is the second largest producer of mangoes in India next only to Uttar Pradesh.
India is home to several varieties of mangoes. Each variety has a unique taste and flavour. The commercial varieties of mangoes include: Banginapalli, Totapuri (known locally as 'Collector'), Suvarnarekha(Lalpari), Kothapalli Kobbari, Chinna Rasam, Cheruku Rasam, Pedda Rasam, Mallika (all these varieties are available locally), Neelam. Alphonso, Kesar, Langra, Dashehari, Fazili, Chousa, Ratole, Kaju, Mulgoa, Jahangir, Rumani, Himayat, Khatta Meetha, Panchadara Kalasa, Manjeera, Amrapali, Arkapuneet and Sindhu.

So my questions are:
1.Where is your so called Langda in this list???To me Chinna rasam is the best then Banginapalli then Alphanso... 😳
2.If India is the largest exporter, where are all the mangoes going??? 😡 ...I always see Mexican stuff here, which is anything but mangoe..I would rather spend that kind of money on a box of Indian sweets... 😕 😭
Last year around this time I was in India and enjoyed mangoes like anything..I literally lived on them and only them..Don't know when I can again enjoy like that... 😭
Cheers,
Raksha
