@Neetu - That is no excuse for the authorities. Most cuckkoos deny counselling 😆. It is the sounsellar and authorities' responsibility to enforce it. We had an Indian girl from grad school sent back home to India when she was doodling very disturbing thoughts. She was my apratment-mate actually.

@ QWERTY, I am not getting into this debate with you. If you like to defend a man who killed 32 people, I really have nothing to debate here. Nobody - no media, no officials, no peers needs to paint his picture dark! IT IS DARK, the DARKEST shooting in the history, and not the work of a healthy mind. If you think he was sane, and his writings are made-up stories, I have no debate. I will respect you opinion. In fact, by talking openly about his cuckkoo writings, the authoritie are trying to really INVESTIGATE, unlike Nithari & such 😉..

@ Eggo's write up - good write up!
I am really mad at the phramaceuticals pushing anti-depressants and sleep medications to THIS extent in this country 🤢🤢🤢.
What normal counselling and having FRIENDS & FAMILY can do, is unnecessarily undermined and PILLS are prescribed. It always bothers me. I am not commenting negatively at anyone who could be taking such medication, but I hope they're all aware of the consequences of DISCONTINUING it / taking it irregularly and also of RELYING only on the pills instead of working on building a good help and support group in the society. No one is as happy as they pretend to be and nobody needs to be sad and lonely as they may feel!

I think they are doing the same mistakes the govt did in 9/11 bomb here bomb there - osama ka pata nahi.. I mean I dont see them analysing the situation in the right perspective.. Event key baad toh uski har harkat suspicious nazar aayegi.... and people will start reading bet' the lines...for no reason...

They need to do better than just painting him black....Lot ot retrospection and analysis is required. Otherwise I dont see any lessening of these things all over the US... they are not trying to find out what enraged him.. His sister is in Princeton... he might have been above average in intelligence...

All I am saying is they are not asking the "RIGHT" questions!! they are just calling him psychotic and kinda pushing the issue under the carpet....

I stiil feel it could be any student in a particular enraged state of mind rather than just a student who is being made out to be lunatic in a post-mortem...So for me its more like a maniacal level crime of passion...

Very good point.

They are addressing his preference in music and movies and his writing style. These are far from accurate representations of his motives and reasoning. We were discussing the same fact in my English class... almost everyone of us raised our hands in assent to the question "Have you ever written a piece of work involving death" ... It just so happens that Cho not only wrote about death, but also planned out and executed a masacre. The two are related, but not to the extent that the media is portraying it to be.

I think there are underlying problems the general public will never know about becaue it won't be sensational enough for the media to actually report.

And frankly, I don't want this news to be dragged out for the next week+. With all due respect to the victims and those affected in any capacity, while this is a tragic event and deserves due attention, it is not something that needs to be aired and discussed over and over again tiill something "more sensational" happens.

Prior to April 16th the news was all about Howard Stern, Anna Nicole Smith, parternity tests, etc. That was dying down when this event occured and so the media leapt on it. The fact that 70+ women, children, men and the elderly were killed in Iraq yesterday was a footnote in the news. Nobody paid attention because death in Iraq has become a daily event.

Another point, brought up by my professor ... does anyone remeber what the headlines were leading upto the week of 9/11? The news had been focussed on ... sharks! Shark sightings and shark threats off the coast of Florida. That had been the big news. Not to belittle the event and date...but 9/11 was far more sensational. The sharks were forgotten and the media moved on to terrorism, Osama Bin Laden, etc.

News has become as commercial as the next business and as dramatic as a daily soap. Short of another incident of mass death within the US or the discovery of Bin Laden, repetitive specualtion and half-true information about Cho, VTech and all that is related to this story will air on for at least another week.

I hope the families aren't too traumatized with this additional exploitation of their condition.

Yep Sim, I saw today 100+ people lost their lives in bombings in Iraq. I can only imagine the kind of fear Iraqis must be living in...its horrible. But then those people have to make a living...they have no other option. I wish this horrible tragedy called Iraq ends soon.

Far too many deaths already in this week.... and it doesn't seem to be ending anytime soon. Just heard of another one a bit more personal in nature... I can't begin to think of anything appropriate to say, I'm just very sad...

I was, however, glad to note that the governments worked together in an efficient manner for once... At least the Indian professor's family won't have to deal with the hassles of government and politics in order to perform his last rites.

It's sad that it takes such events to unite people, yet it's heartening to see so many step forward to support each other.

Let's not talk about that unfortunate piece of work... 😡 The less said about him, the less pissed off I get 😆 ... it feels strange to laugh... 😕 This whole week has me drained yaar.. *sigh*

Though, since you did bring it up... his words were incredibly hollow...the man can't even fake sincerity! 😕 How's he running the country again!? (oh yeah.. POORLY!)

What kind of shops sells that kind of fire power to a student and not think twice about it.....why would anyone even need that kind of fire power....did the shop not think even once about that.... 🤢 And what kind of govt is OK with that!!!

I agree that with weapons available, the US public might not be susceptible to the kind of political butchery that Russia, China and Germany saw.And the citizens sleep with a bit more peace in lonely areas surrounded by wild life. But why so much of fire power is available or even required.....beats me !!!!

America needs to have gun control legislations and stricter implementation. On this matter their politicians are as good as ours in India

They will make gun laws for immigrants not to possess weapons which would be a populist measure, but they wont take on the gun lobby

Bill Clinton learnt it the hard way and with elections so close, no republican or democrat candidate will dare to raise this, who cares if there are more incidents like Virginia Tech

works faster and is less messy 😉 the only problem would be if they all clamour for String control later on😉😊

Unfortunately I feel sad for the gun owners too, if someone lives 100 miles from the nearest police station, and a 6 1/2 footer or 300 lbs walks in and asks for everything you have, that rope is not gonna help you😉

actually in this case, the cops were so close, still could not do anything
