I think there is a time where parents do really realize that their child is not in their hands anymore, that s/he can go out into the world and make their own decisions, and thus some of them might feel the need of controling or protecting.

After this, it is upto the child, I think to perceive what they say as an order, or words of advice. Everyone is old enough to choose what they want, to choose what they think is right, so they can also distinguish between the wishes of their parents and themselves. You're parents can continue to give you advice/order, or whatever it may be called, but it's you who needs to make it clear to everyone, that you are an adult and will not be influenced by anyone. If you set the limit's of your life yourself, I dont see anyone breaking the barriers.
