They even keep a board at the entrance with a heading learn two words of Hindi today...

Hindi is our national language unless it is declared it was removed as national language which i am not aware...

Can any one correct me please

India doesn't have a national language.. It has only official language....

As per Article 343 of the Constitution of India, India’s official languages shall be Standard Hindi (the dialect known as Khadiboli) written in the Devanagari script and English. These are the official languages of the Union of India, i.e. at the Central Government level. However, each state is allowed to have its own official language based on its own linguistic demographics. So, we end up having a total of 22 official languages today (excluding English)

There is a concerted effort to spread Hindi. People know it but still prefer their own language and/or English.

I can tell you one incident from Kerala. Some central minister addressed a Kerala politician in Hindi, assuming the response would be in English which both could understand. The politician responded in Malayalam, in PUBLIC, saying if the Center couldn't be bothered to use a language the State could understand, the State would also respond in equal manner. Let's just say they all ended up reverting to English.

India never had a national language. There is too much linguistic diversity to tie national identity to a single language. So, India has official languages. That means important transactions and government documents must be in one of these languages.

Being paid extra to learn a particular language or being encouraged to learn a language doesn't mean anything. Many govt officials in the USA are encouraged to learn Spanish and get differentials if they are bilingual. By your logic, Spanish is the national language of the USA.

First of all I will never understand the pride people associate with a medium of communication.....and second......how do celebrities not find out the facts before making a fool of them selves...

like India doesn't have a national language....Hindi is one of the official languages but not the national language..

Like India doesn't allow dual citizenship......like Akki claimed..

Sudhar jao Bhai log...

Seems like a manufactured controversy to fuel the Naarth - South divide. Predictable though. You don't want people to focus on issues like these.
