Last day I was watching a YouTube video, some thali ceremony, and comments under the video were really rude. Few of them criticising her make up, few were wondering how she got dusky complexion when her mother is fair and the most irritating comments were despite of her dark skin tone she is gorgeous. We don't usually compliment someone saying that despite of your fair complexion you are gorgeous. It indirectly pass the message that despite of the negative factor you are beautiful. She is not a famous personality , there was no need to bring the colour discussion as the video was not about dusky skin makeover . "I have commented that what was the need to bring colour discussion under a random video. The girl is really gorgeous" This girl immediately replied thanking me for the support . I realised that the girl was reading the negative comments and probably the positive comment gave her little relief .

What a well articulated post. One of the first thoughts that came to my mind is that Shahrukh himself has endorsed a product that promotes skin whitening for men! And here is Suhana articulating all that she feels when she comes across comments regarding her skin tone and look. It's a damn shame that there are still celebs out there who promote products that add to this toxic narrative that is embedded in our society. This obsession with fair skin! It's good to see someone as young as her basically calling folks out yet doing so with so much grace.

Suhana is still very young. She hasn't even entered the industry yet. I hope she remains grounded and comfortable in her skin ( literally) and doesn't succumb to pressure as the others did.

I didn't expect her to be this articulate or sporting to be honest😆 maybe someone else drafted it for her? Whatever it is, it's really wise of her to post this.. she has received a lot of hate for her online presence but I am glad she takes it all in stride.. I hope she continues to be this way because honestly of she plans on entering the industry, the criticism is gonna get much worse

That's the worst thing to experience. My sister is light skin coloured,all my cousin's are light skinned. And unfortunately I grew up in a joint family with the absence of my father as he was in army . My relatives used to mock me saying that guests will probably think that you are a servant . One incident which I can never forget is a Tamil lady's comment to my aunt , she was like how come this girl is so black and ugly when her sister is very fair .She thought that I can't understand Tamil. I was just 7 then . My photographs displayed in studios , the compliments I get for my features is a proof that I am not ugly , it is just the colour .

She didn't mention fans.. considering she studied abroad, I am sure a lot of her friends/mutuals don't speak Hindi

I'm glad she mentioned height also. Everyone seems to understand that insulting people for their skin tone is wrong but people think it's great to do it for their height. I'm short myself and I've been made fun of my whole life for it - sorry, I can't do anything about it. Short people can't apply creams or get plastic surgeries to correct their height.

Indians in general are a brown and generally short people compared to Westerners. But they despise everything about themselves and the closer to Caucasian you look, the better. The taller you are, the slimmer your nose, the lighter your eyes, the whiter your skin... the less Indian you look, the better.

We see it here on the forum itself. People make nice comments on a topic like this but go back to their normal insults in other topics. People like Alia get trashed all the time for their height and mocked how her boyfriend could possibly like her after dating Kat and Deepika. It's disgusting.
