taking interest in/ appreciating the traditions of another religion and trying to understand their significance is another way...

having spent a year and a half here in UAE and having witnessed the traditions of the Holy month of Ramzan has made me more aware of Islam, having studied in a convent school has made appreciate the teachings of the bible...
more exposure and interation and keeping an open mind can really enlighten you...
and as Indians I think we are the luckiest nation to have the opportunity of enjoying the best of all religions!...( not to forget so many holidays we get! 😛 )

Wellsaid Dr Ashu!!

I think this is what religious tolerance is all about. Follow your own faith, but accept and admire other faiths too, and respect the fact that all ways lead to only one place - God.

Absolutely agree with above and if everyone even if they don't follow it outwardly, at least if they can agree with these ideals in their mind, I am sure world will be a better place to live in.

I didnt knoe abt this article.. Anyways i feel that religion tolerance is not bearing a community. Its living happily with that community or ppl of different religion and thats what every religion teaches us. We should respect each other beliefs and should not let it lead to conflicts between us. We are all gods creations and we should regard every1 as equal. Religion is important but we should not let religion differences lead to fights. Instead we should celebrate others festives and try to increase our knowledge by knowing more about each others religion but at the same time, practicing our religion also.

Between, great topic!!👏

religious tolerance is respecting other religions

if somebody is a religious person they can also be religiously tolerant
all they have to do is follow their religion, but also respect others and not force them to join their religion

Chandragupta Maurya, Ashoka, Akbar, Chhatrapati Shivaji, and Maharaja Ranjit Singh are religious tolerant

yes i believe in this very good concept

religious tolerance is important because it is being peaceful with other religions and respecting them
this way there will be peace and things for improving the world can be done faster instead of fighting other religions

Religious tolerance has several manifestations,

Tolerance is required where conflict of interpretation occurs which implicitly threatens the weaker of the two and hence needs to be handled with more sensitivity...

Hindu religion is by far quite tolerant.. Earlier somebody mentioned
Gayatri mantra.. i dont think it was supposed to be sung by women or even voiced.. but today we broadcast it on a loud-speakers all over... Priestessess seen in some parts of pune.. which is again another ridiculous unless they are ready to dress up exactly like their male counter-parts... 😆 Islam cant be tweaked and twisted as anyone likes... It has lot more belligerence...

Every time we try to break a religious value, we dont hesitate to call it evolution and rationalizing and if its hurts the larger part we brand them as intolerant...Thats not right..

One of the posts say wearing footwear should be liberalized... Given the sensitivity of the religious people whats the harm in keeping the footwear out..its more hygenic too, arent we the rationally smart, educated and intelligent people...

So, the idea of tolerance looks like telling the sensitive people to change when that exact change seems too implausible to the learned and erudite... 😆

Muslims are conservative.. Sikhs have their beliefs..But for eg, Americans will find it difficult...to allow the sikh to carry the Kirpan aboard flights or allow muslims to do namaz on the 16th Ave in NY by redirecting the traffic to convenience this... The point is religious tolerance manifests in several flavors.. so it has to be looked up on case-by-case basis... 😊 Finally as I have always defined Religion being the "Ego" of the community.. I am totally agnostic so am tolerant of all religions...😊, none of them mean anything to me, it is interesting to see the behavior when any particular religious group becomes a minority. There will always be a presence of dereliction and negligence..

I think religious tolerance simply means appreciating the rituals and customs of other religion while adhering to your own.

I love it when my kids don the Halooween costumes and go trick or treat, I put up all sorts of halloween goofies up at my house.....I buy sparkling figurines during christmas and gift my christian friends gifts.....I sometimes go to churches and sit there, I love the tranquility there, I get a strange kind of peace when I visit any Buddhist temple. I absolutely adore going to Gurudwara langars, and sit thorugh their sermons, I loved visiting Golden Temple; I can't get anough of biryanis when it's Eid and make rounds of my muslim friends to have it. In turn, they know I follow the concept of jhoota ( not eating from the same plate as someone else has eaten) so they always served me separately,in separate dishes.

I think this is what religious tolerance is all about. Follow your own faith, but accept and admire other faiths too, and respect the fact that all ways lead to only one place - God.

WOW!! that is soo true...you said it perfectly. I also believe religous tolerence is just accepting other religions costums but also not forgetting yours and following your own culture. b/c we live in a very diverse world nowadays i mean from ppl who are hindu to muslim to those who dnt beleive in religon we cant be closed minded....we have to be very tolerant people nowadays..

Dear Friends!!!

I Wish to know your divine views on this topic of Religious Tolerance.

What is Religious Tolerance? Religious tolerance is the ability of a person to agree to disagree and respect other person's opinion about their religion, it all starts with tolerance and respect

Can we adore other religions inspite of loving our religion(if at all we beleive in the concept of religion)

You dont have to adore the other religion to have tolerance about it, it is just you cant be judgemental about what the other religion preaches

Is'nt this meaning politisized these days?

A lot, these days the tolerance has been stretched to an extreme, ok I respect your religion, but if you use a term in the religion to kill me then I gotta be able to retailiate that atleast verbally, we are in such a timid PC world these days, even a verbal retailation is not allowed. And minorities take an advantage of the general populace

Whom do you consider to be religious tolerant person?

I used to have a Principal in my elementary school, he taught us how to be respectful of the other religion while being proud of yours(although his method of teaching involved beating by canes😉)

Do you beleive in this concept?

Certainly

What's the beauty of religious tolerance?

You are doing something positive towards the society

Cheers,

Mythili
