This question arises .... a person with wrong acts/deeds will be hated by people of different faith/his own faith...but does that label his religion as intolerant?? 😕

Do we generally distinguish b/w people having religious intolerance within them from the religion they belong? 😕
i guess im making sense 😛 😉 😛 ..want to add a lot.. will be back😛

I think religious tolerance simply means appreciating the rituals and customs of other religion while adhering to your own.

I love it when my kids don the Halooween costumes and go trick or treat, I put up all sorts of halloween goofies up at my house.....I buy sparkling figurines during christmas and gift my christian friends gifts.....I sometimes go to churches and sit there, I love the tranquility there, I get a strange kind of peace when I visit any Buddhist temple. I absolutely adore going to Gurudwara langars, and sit thorugh their sermons, I loved visiting Golden Temple; I can't get anough of biryanis when it's Eid and make rounds of my muslim friends to have it. In turn, they know I follow the concept of jhoota ( not eating from the same plate as someone else has eaten) so they always served me separately,in separate dishes.

I think this is what religious tolerance is all about. Follow your own faith, but accept and admire other faiths too, and respect the fact that all ways lead to only one place - God.

well said ! 😊

I don't tolerate this point on religious tolerance. But its true in most of the cases but it depends on the mental maturity of the people you interact with.

Didn't get a word of what you said. It is very fragmented. Clarify please? Which part you do not tolerate and why?

Well ... wht i meant was that due to "Religious Intolerance" of SOME people may lead others to believe that a particular "Religion/country" is intolerant...

i myself faced this situation as when normally ... people (mostly from America... and hey! im not generalizing... i have closest friends from US too) got to know that i am a Muslim.. and live in ME... they were sort of uncomfortable😕..and this thing surprised me to NO END!!! like... wht i have done so people assume/stereotype me the same from wht they have heard in the news/views🤢 I despise this behaviour a lot🤢

This is a very sad and true state of mind, MNMS.

I am with you.

Religion is a personal thing in my opinion..judging a person by his character and not by his religion is one form of religious tolerance...

taking interest in/ appreciating the traditions of another religion and trying to understand their significance is another way...

having spent a year and a half here in UAE and having witnessed the traditions of the Holy month of Ramzan has made me more aware of Islam, having studied in a convent school has made appreciate the teachings of the bible...
more exposure and interation and keeping an open mind can really enlighten you...
and as Indians I think we are the luckiest nation to have the opportunity of enjoying the best of all religions!...( not to forget so many holidays we get! 😛 )

Yeah !! I agree with you Maryam!!! Somany people behave in this manner.People generalise the behaviour, intelligence ,moral values on the basis of the religion they belong, which is not true. You know!!! Some say "Uf!!! Muslims... they are very harsh!! or "Christians!!! Oh!!They are cultureless".These type of comments really irk me.

Cheers,

Mythili

and such comments are very commonplace... Even Hindus are not spared.... The word Hindus is most of the time misconstrued for "Hindu fundamentalists"..😕
