With the rapidly increasing influence of social networking sites(Fb etc) do you think that they are responsible for digital addiction N mental exhaustion of the users(mainly youth)?
What is your take on this?

i cant speak for FB or twitter but IF is an addiction. i dont know what drives it. i think in the end addiction of social networking reflects your own life more than anything. if u r social in real life, busy, have many many friends then you will not get addicted to sites and will come here to get information or debate.
in my case by nature i am not a person who is into networking, friendship type stuff. its not that i cant make friends but i just dont make friends. i find it burdensome. even when i can i choose not to get involved.
however human nature needs networking,,,,so i started getting addicted to forum instead. lol..
that is the only reason i can think of. however maybe its not true for others.

I would never call it an addiction. It underrates the term and what people with actual addictions go through.

I will say its another thing that allows people to be less social, take less risks, think less for themselves, and do less as far as internal decision making. So I will say its a crutch that people in tough situations can lean on and can make them avoid actual challenges that make people and society better.

Honestly a very interesting topic but IMO there can never be a take on this as circumstances differ for different individuals and the way it helps or degrades them totally depends on their personal parameters. For example I am going to tell about myself. After slogging for hours at work and living alone ,SNS's are the only respite in my life which I look forward to kill boredom and give vent to my urge to talk and respond. I come ,discuss and feel happy go back to sleep. Its a means of recreation and rejuvenation to kill my boredom. But then again since its my case ,it cannot be generalized again as the term ADDICTION cannot be.There may be some people who cut their REAL life and get so engrossed in their virtual ones that it becomes UNHEALTHY for them.Yes sometimes ,people might go overboard and fade the barricade between their REAL AND VIRTUAL life but IMO at the end of the day SNS's can be viewed both ways -A MEDIUM TO INTERACT AND CREATE AWARENESS AS WELL AS ADDICTION TAKING THE TOLL ON THEIR REAL LIVES FOR SOME...
So again any hasty generalization would be highly PREJUDICED AND FLAWED

Piu

I can relate with each debaters' opinion in bits and pieces that's been posted above. Social networking websites are used for like a variety of objectives by people. I know a lot of people whose Facebook accounts exist simply because everybody else has Facebook. Others use it as a medium to post a picture, sometimes two a day of them in front of their restroom's mirror. Some people share sappy, motivational quotes etc. Then, there's me. I use Facebook as a journal. Like a quote? Post. Like a post in me feed? Share. It reflects who I am and what I am feeling, I don't care about posting my own pictures frequently or posing in front of the mirror and the style statement that Facebook has come to become. I use it not because everybody else uses it but because I like to.

I can stop using Facebook at any given point. I agree, I'd have a difficult time leaving IF like that. But I wouldn't say I am addicted to either. They are just two parts of my whole life. Depends on one's perception, doesn't it? I'd rather debate here or do some Photoshop and listen good music and share its lyrics on Facebook than go out and party. It doesn't make me an addict of social networking or mean that my counterparts are aimless and distracted wasteful teenagers. It simply means everybody has the choice to do what they wish to with their insignificant, petty lives.

I can leave FB, Twitter at any point but I-F, and Tumblr are hard for me to leave because I meet other people who are interested in the same thing as I am on these sites. In real life I don't have a single friend who is going debate tv serial couples with me, or listen to me talk about football for hours. Yes I can bring these topics up but I don't just want to have a small casual conversation on these things, I want to analyze every little thing. I want to talk about it for hours without forcing someone to listen to me.
I do think I am addicted to these sites because I have gotten to a point where my friends would come over and I would still go on these sites. So it;s not because of my lack of a social life. Or even when I am hanging out with my friends at the university I would check in through phone to see if anyone said something interesting about my football team or the tv show characters I like.

Every COIN has 2 sides...
so each and every element on this earth has glimpse of advantages and disadvantages...

so i go for both the things..
addiction word doesnt hamper ones own happiness...
its the human mentality how he/she tyakes ito themselves..
wether they can withstand the stress or just back up it...
social networking sites not only gives good information but also can be a root for the income or even for the success of the life...
we do surf a lot through these sites ...why do you think ..actually not for the fruitnig of the success but actually for the relaxation of ur happiness..
these sites gives us penny which is basic requirement in our life..not only penny, even enhancement knowledge of other elements which u r unaware of..

hold down..not only advantage even disadvantage exist here..because where there is joy there sadness even joins the joy...so it is responsible of our part ..how do we take it..how does these impact on our daily life ..it totally depends on us...
if we need it in a humour way then no harm for our life but if its reverse way then a very bad impact on our life...
so one has to be clear with all the handling procedure of these sites n a saffest mode

Well, I strongly believe that social networking sites are a very bad addiction! If you think for a while they don't give you even a small good thing.
It gives you momentarily pleasure which actually lasts for only that moment!

The one who says that it connects us with people, i wanna ask them.
Is that friendship going to last?
True friends are the ones which we have made playing, with them..talking them face to face!

I am badly addicted to social networking sites and want to get rid soon

It is surely a digital addiction and mental exhaustion for those people who are weak-willed- those who can't control their own mind and get addicted easily. Who can help them?

But as such, social networking sites are quite entertaining.
