What is your take on Ghazals?

I think it is addictive and intoxicating. But younger generation may find it boring and old fashioned.
But still it's beauty is irresistible and alluring.

Ghazals, and qawwalis too, are an acquired taste...something we grow into. I didn't like listening to them when I was in my teens, but have grown to enjoy them recently. I'm more a fan of qawalis though, there is something else about music inspired by past Sufi poets.

Even today when I'm a fan, I have to be in the mood for the music...it's not something I can play at any given time. But indeed, the poetry is great and the music can be soothing.

Yes Mehdi Hassan Sahab the Legend is truly unmatchable. I doubt there can ever be another to match our King of Ghazals.
My late Kathy Bhai was ever so fond of him and explained a great deal about ghazals to me.

I like ghazals.. specially jagjeet singh and old writers.. not only hindi, even Gujarati language has ghazal writers and singers also like osman mir.. they change my mood ...

That is interesting.

The late Jagjeet Singh truly promoted ghazals world-wide.

He will always be remembered.

to be honest - no i am not into ghazals etc. i just like songs and they can be of any type.

Ah Kingji you are truly sentimental I know, and ghazals always pulls the chords of our hearts. But yes music is always special.

Often ghazals means beautiful lyrics too and too much of it could turn us into dreamers perhaps. But then life is like a dream so I guess it does not matter that much ...

These days ghazals are given an extra doze of musical instruments and variations

@Summer Most of your posts sound like mini poems, I can't help but think there is a tune that should be played in the background. And I mean that in the best way possible 😛

I forgot to mention Noor Jehan in my original post. I guess not all of her work can be considered ghazals but it all sounds pretty poetic to me 😆

There is music and then there is this. A song I can never get tired of.

Yes she is a legend and undeniably one of the greatest singers. She used to sing also with our dear Mehdi Hassan Sahab. I guess my writing style has a bit of rhythm incorporated in it, but it is not deliberate.😆
