0.

I am totally opposite.. on sunday I got friendly with this lady with two kids(1 baby and 1 kid) and later she asked me to watch over her baby while she went around with her older one.. I spent half an hour baby sitting for a total stranger who barely spoke English 😆
another stranger tonight was this old guy from US trying to convince me Detroit is the best place on planet earth and I should visit him😆
it just takes few smiles I guess...😊

Thanks for all the input and specially for sticking to the format. The posts so far are informative.
Let me address one point that few of you have raised.
I asked for an estimate of your trust. The range is 0-100 percent. What I mean by confidence measure is actually the amount of confidence you have in your estimate. For example lets say your estimate is 70% and confidence in your estimate is 20% then what it means is that the range of trust is 50-90% with 70 percent being the best guess. However the true value, in case you are not sure when you gave that estimate, will most probably lie in that range. The confidence can be narrower.
We can write above as
1) 70 +- 20
2) 50, 70, 90

1) On average, how much do you trust online community. Since there are numerous such communities I am asking about non-social sites such as forums like India-Forums

Please rate 0-100 and provide a confidence measure

E.g. 70 +- 20

50/50
2) What are the factors that increase or decrease your trust.
The truthfulness come closer to me , my trust and respect increase...😊
3) Give us an example of something that might shake the trust of those who have trusted you on that particular matter. Point? Give us some gossips. lol.

Santa said to me "For the whole ten years of our married life I always trusted my wife. And then we moved from Calcutta to mumbai-- and I discovered we still had the same milkman!" 😉😛

trust is simply the absence of doubt...😊
4) Has someone shaken your trust (in same context i.e. forums). No need to name names.
^ ...I have very few close friends in IF, they never did or I never did anything to shake my/their trust...they all are lovable n sweet.

I agree with the above statement, because trust does not arise from a decision but from lack of doubt. So what happens if the doubt is cleared up, would trust again with same intensity?

Please rate 0-100 and provide a confidence measure. E.g. 70 +- 20
80 percent +- 10 percent (meaning my trust lies between 70-90 with most likely estimate being 80)
2) What are the factors that increase or decrease your trust.
Decrease: Lies, backbiting, insincerity
Increase: : It's already increased.
3) Give us an example of something that might shake the trust of those who have trusted you on that particular matter. Point? Give us some gossips. lol.
Maybe I am a goody two show. If I am then it is not intentional.
4) Has someone shaken your trust (in same context i.e. forums). No need to name names.
Nope
5) Concluding remarks on how should we see online trust.
I think in general most people are trustworthy and honest. Therefore it helps to start with trusting them and being positive about them. This is logical action in my opinion.

Thanks King Anu for a wonderful topic. I hope I answered in the format as you requested.

Let's start by defining a trust model .. I am assuming you mean that when you tell someone something about you, you don't expect them to
1 share that information with someone else
2 use that information to blackmail you
3 use that information to find you and stalk you .. and harm you?

Is that all of it .. or did I miss something?

With regards to 1, I am with Aarya.. I don't even trust myself.. That said, I am pretty good at keeping secrets about others.. it's just stuff about myself that I can go on and on about! 😊
2 .. no use.. 'coz I have no money .. sorry! 😆
3 .. it's pretty easy to find me on the web if you want to

Varies... ill let you pick a random number between 0 and 100. There are people on IF, who know absolutely everything about me.. including stuff my own family and real friends don't know.. 😛 .. and there are at least a few I hope who know nothing!
2) What are the factors that increase or decrease your trust.

Factors have been wrong in real life with people who I was really close to .. so I would say there are no factors!
As to those people who know everything about me on IF .. well I don't remember how I became so close to them.. well we just clicked (no pun intended) 😛

Someone told me I am awesome ... 😳 Oh wait, that was me...

No.

well they say my heart is like a black hole. what goes in there never comes out. i think those who know me here will agree. lol.

people who i have been close to have trusted me and have shared info with me as well. in return i have not. i feel bad. really really bad. they must be thinking i dont trust them. its not like that. i respect and trust them. one reason is i am not that communicative and shy type. more important reason is i run away from personal interactions. therefore i have build this wall. its not about trust in my case, i can never disrespect freinds by not trusting them.

I don't see what someone would gain by lying to me on an online forum. But sure, whatever makes them happy!

Aww.. 😳
But how can trust them and be so sure that they know you!

time is a good test. with time the decision is mostly right.

Not always!

If they are close to you, they will understand .. and they should respect your decision to not disclose information about yourself. If they want you to change, then they don't deserve to your friends... 'coz good friends are those who accept you the way you are!
Now stop beating yourself up! 😊
