Well a question like this is rationalizing a natural phenomenon. We know what women are but I don't think anyone can define their purpose. In fact, what is anybody's purpose on this Earth? I don't think there is any. You get a life and you have to make the best of it.
You cannot put any label to women, otherwise you will get in stereotyping. We, as a society, have made some specific characteristics of the genders, which I don't think applies to each and every member of each sex. Women can be sweet, caring, sexy, total bitch, temper storm, etc. No one fits all and not all fit one.
In caveman days, one can argue, purpose of women was to attract men and bear children. We have evolved to get attracted to female body and to want to have sex, because this was necessary for survival of human species on Earth. During ovulation, women also get horny and get more attracted to masculine and alpha male so that the child can have the best genes. Those days, we were not smart enough to worry about anything. We just ate, slept, and procreated. Men were the provider, women had to bear children and nurture. Simple biology, men are anatomically strong and fit for outside work and women are made for caring. High estrogen and low testosterone make women more soft by nature and hormone changes during pregnancy and after childbirth make them more attached to their babies, so they are better for nurturing.
But in modern times, there is no need for hunter. Women are smart too and can handle intellectual jobs as well as men. No need to make them metaphoric. And even if you do, you won't be able to fit all women in that same metaphor. There are masculine women and feminine men too. Some men are more caring and some women are cold at heart. Some men are very easily scared and some women may be adrenaline junkie. Women are also humans, just opposite sex. At basic, animal instinct level, yes the purpose is procreation but that is true for both men and women. But our brain has evolved to the level where we have become curious and are trying to find answers about the universe, and in that quest both sexes are working together.
