^^

I'm not too familiar with Latin American economics and politics, my exposure has been recent. From what I figure, Venezuela might eventually tone down their hardliner stance a bit. Venezuela wants to be a part of MERCOSUR. Although Chavez claims it is being stalled due to pro-American reasons, current members are just wary of some of his extreme notions. I think in the long run the Latin American nations will iron their differences to benefit from their combined natural resources and squeeze out American influence. It all depends on how well they manage their corruption and inflation. A lot of times I think the next big thing is not China or India, it's combined Latin America.

Going more off topic, I'm completely enamored by Rio's Elite Squad (BOPE). When I learned about their operations and people described how they came down the hills at night and busted the drug lords and drove tanks through the slums – I was like – wow its just like some movie – and damn there actually is a movie on it (which I want to see). We saw the Elite Squad posted in Rochina – they look scary in their black outfits and the black truck with the skull logo. India could do with an incorruptible army/cop hybrid unit like that.

Ugh as for Santorum – people like him are why I hate the GOP (some of it) so much. They point to Iran and Muslim nations and claim that they are backward extremists but their own views on women and family are from the stone ages. Can you believe Rush Limbaugh is still on air? I get it is his right to free speech, but Don Imus paid the consequences, how can Limbaugh get away with something so disparaging? I would kick him in the nuts if I ever saw him.

Since we discussed Syria, current discussions on Syria

Secretary of defense Leon Panetta and current administration reps are cautious of intervention and don't think we should do it, at least not on our own.

Congressmen like John McCain think US should unilaterally lead a military mission in Syria and we could and should do it.

Westerns (US, France, Germany etc.) either sold WMD to Iraq or setup facilities that were capable of producing WMD in Iraq. Iraq attacked Iran. backed by US (Regan). who was looking for revenge against Iran for overthrowing the US friendly brutal and corrupt regime of the shah in which over a million Iraqis died. After Saddam, an Iran friendly Shi'ite run government was installed which is hated by the Sunnis' so expect more jihadist persecution of Christians and other religious minorities, more Sunni-Shi'ite jihad instead of peace.

So, what is your point? Iran threw away a much balance-minded, wise and pro-liberty Shah for anti-US, fundamentalist, maniac Ayatollah Khomenie? Yes. Did the new government torture the minorities? Yes.
Did they make US diplomats hostages? So much for diplomatic immunity.
So, yes, US stopped their financial supply. Stopped buying anything from Iran other than... well, maybe dates, nuts and carpets? This fumed them as their money dried up. Sorry, baby.

According to Osama Bin Ladin, US forgin policies in Middle East, in particular its support of state of Israel in Palestine and invasion of southern Lebanon in 1982 are the reasons why Al Qaeda is attacking US. jihadists wanted to attack the middle east regimes but Osama was able to convince them the real enemy was America. He modified existing plans for ten planes to crash into targets in Asia and on the east coast of America simultaneously and successfully carried out attacks on selected targets in other parts of US.

According to who? Sorry, as much as I hate shooting the messenger, in this case I just can't get my head around to understanding what Osama's views were about the US.

A middle east scholar Michael Scott Doran wrote, "9/11 was the collateral damage of a clash within Islam". Michael said that Osama and Al Qaeda believed they were the true believers of Islam wanted to install Taliban-style theocracies from Indonesia to Morocco. On the other side there is a silent majority of Muslims who are prepared to deal with the west, who do not see the Taliban as a workable model for modern Islamic states.

Great. So we agree that Osama was a mass-murderer psycho who wanted to spread his psychopathy around the world.

Kuwait did not exist until 1922 when England drew a line in the sand creating Kuwait for the al-Sabah family and cutting of Iraq's access to the Gulf. Iraq tried to reclaim Kuwait many times and finally recognized its independence in 1963. After WWII US power was at its peak and took over control of the Gulf area from Britain in order to protect its oil assets. US maintained the same policies that of Britain and France. Keep these countries strong enough to fight each other but not too strong so that the region would be destabilized or allow them to unit and form a single defense force against...maybe America????
US knew Saddam (their puppet) was getting out control. Iraq was unable to repay the money it had borrow from Kuwait to finance the war against Iran. It had asked asked Kuwait to either forgive the loan or stop selling its oil at lower price but Kuwait refused. Before attacking Kuwait, an American diplomat visited Iraq and Saddam asked her if the US would intervene if Iraq attacked Kuwait and she assured him that US was not concerned about their border issues. I guess the poor guy didn't know he was being setup. US killed two birds with one stone: took him out (financial losses) and got a base in Kuwait at the end of the day.

Kuwait became completely independent in 1961 as far as I remember. I do not know anything about 1922. Iraq recognized independent Kuwait in 1963. Yes, Iraq was bankrupt fighting war with Iran and could not repay the money it borrowed (again, borrowed) from Kuwait. In addition, Kuwait was selling its oil for cheaper price due to abundance and skills. Capitalism-101. Iraq got frustrated. Asked Kuwait to forgive the debt (yeah, right). Kuwait refused. Iraq bombed the hell out of a soverign state.
No, US ambassador did not tell Iraq to bomb Kuwait. Gosh, do you really believe that? All US said was that it will not get involved in their (Iraq-Kuwait's) problem which was settlement of debt.
Iraq violated all the international laws. Captured Kuwait and declared it as part of Iraq and continued marching towards Saudi showing middle finger to UN Security council. After like 7 months, Saddam started coming up with weirdest deals that involved Arafat and PLO.. huh?? Saddam was using biological and chemical weapons on his own people. He was an evil.
US had to get involved since Saudi asked repeatedly. Iraq was approaching Saudi's borders.

It always has been about an uninterrupted access to cheap oil and recent events in Iran are proof. Just read few articles on the recent developments in Iran. I knew Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was just posturing to show the west that he was in charge and to take control of Iran from Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. That would never have happened without the military which is under the control of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. This should keep the Zionists quiet for a while.

What oil? We are talking about Iran's nuke program. The one that it hid for 18 years and would not sign non-proliferation treaty. Until like few days back it won't let IAEA in. Just think if that maniac shoots one nuke towards Israel. It will be a world war in a matter of hours. China, Russia, Korea and of course US jumps in to protect their own interests in the region.

Iraq war was wrong? People say that based on the advantage of hindsight? And yes, WMDs were found.
Come on, US did not want to just bomb the hell out of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It was provoked. Same way, it was provoked to take down Taliban and AQ and its intelligence network which very well could have been Iraq.

Just let the sleeping giant sleep.. it will not come and kick you.

Regarding foreign policy, every strong nation, at some point, has to align itself with an evil some times to bring down a bigger evil. US did that during cold war. There was a little guy named Rajiv Gandhi from India... he did something similar. Hint: LTTE, Sri Lanka.

That is politics and complexity of foreign policies. If US alienates itself from the rest of the world, the rest of the world will not return the favor.

I do not comprehend why you feel the absolute need to repeatedly rant on about the 3000 + people who died. Everyone understands and feels remorse for those innocents. However, if you are honestly going to sit there and count the amount of people who have died - let's start off from Afghanistan and Iraq.

What did Afghanistan and Iraq do to deserve hundreds and thousands of innocents dying on a daily basis.

Here is a rough statistic of the death poll in Iraq.

2003 12,087
2004 11,152
2005 15,491
2006 28,225
2007 25,063
2008 9,385
2009 4,713
2010 4,045
2011 4,087

Do you want to take out that lovely calculator of yours and start adding the scores? Mind you, that is not even a definite and reliable amount. 9/11 was a horrid day but shall we count the terror and deaths that occur 24/7 in the Middle east? It is so easy for you to sit behind that computer screen and openly allow the Media to mislead you. When you visit Afghanistan and observe children with missing limbs, hear the screams of thousands of mothers as they search for their child or carry their dead bodies in their arms - you will think twice before 'justifying' the actions of the US as to being 'fair'.

9/11 was not deserved. Violence is never the answer. But that should be applied to the Middle east as well. US troops were reported urinating on the dead bodies of many civilians. Fingers were used and collected as trophies to flaunt out their triumph. Was that deserved?

The United States invaded Iraq using the excuse of 'Weapons of mass destruction'. Mind you, there was none to begin with. Saddam Hussain was executed. Since that 'threat' is long gone then pray tell, what on earth is the US still doing lingering in Iraq? Surely they have not been victim to watching the subtitled version of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu thi and assumed that Saddam Hussain would come back to life with a new face and background score. 😳

It almost seems like you think the US is ... God help me I'm going to say the word .. 'Innocent'. 🤣

I doubt there will ever be a WW3 after so much awareness of racial equality that's around the world now.
