^^ Interpreting dreams can be quite tricky at times. They may be symbolic and appear quite irrational. I seldom remember what I dreamt except for a few.

Dreams can link us with those who have left us too.
A friend of mine always complained about his health and other matters. Financially he was fine and was married and owned shops too. He was older than me and used to drop by my place at times for prayers. As a person I liked him but were not bosom pals or buddies. He seemed troubled by his own mind it seemed. One day he decided to end his life by an overdose of sleeping pills ( or perhaps was natural, I did not ask too much). Strangely he had told his family that he wanted me to throw his ashes in the sea. I obliged of course.
After a couple of months I saw him in my dream wearing the same spotlessly white T shirt. He was in a small crowd of people.
So I said to him in my dream:" Hey you have already passed away! What are you doing here?"
He looked at me and gave the same familiar loud laughter. He seemed happy. He then walked away and left.
Guess all was well with him.
My policy is not to trouble those who have left this world. It's fine if they say hello occasionally.

- Daydreaming - Dreaming while you are actually awake. These are not actual dreams, but at times, when you let your imagination carry you a bit too further away from reality, to the extent that you stop noticing the happenings around you, it can be classified as some form of 'dreaming'. As an aloof and introvert person, I suffer from these more than anything else. I don't think there is much that can be deduced from these dreams - they are, after all, not actual dreams that happen in our unconscious state of mind. We think, and consequently get lost into our world of imagination, about things that have some bearings to our life.

- Lucid dreaming - Dreaming while being conscious that you are, in fact, dreaming. Many have learned the art of lucid dreaming (I once had a prolonged discussion with a member who claims to have learned or have some knowledge over it) and can control their dreams and encounter various fantastical and mythical places and creatures by their own will - all while still dreaming. It's like a fantasy dream come true. There is not much to deduce from lucid dreams either as they are operated and controlled by the person himself, and not something that occurs while we are unconscious.

- Nightmares - I don't think these need any introductions. The most common form of (actually, rather than 'common', I could have as well said 'the only type of') nightmares I have involves lizards. I see them all the time. Sometimes I dream of being stuck in a small, suffocating room with hundreds of lizards walking around the wall like kings, and I/me being crashed to death. Ugh. Don't even remind me. Even the thought makes me nauseous. I don't think one needs a genius to figure out that nightmares show us our fears - and the state of our mind as well. If you are having repeated nightmares about the object you fear, then there must be something wrong with your (mental) health even if you are unaware of it.

These are the most common types of dreams. There are more controversial categories:

- Prophetic dreams - I have no clue if these are real and actually serve any purpose in the world. These are dreams that supposedly foretell the future (and I am reminded of Mr. Weasley's attack now). It is said that there are things that the mind overlooks among others, but when we are asleep, our subconscious mind has the capability to put together all the little data and information out there, and come to a (valid) conclusion about it. In a way it makes sense, but I haven't come across any solid study that can prove these theory without any doubt - and I am not going to believe some ordinary dreams of mine to mean this or that and come to a rushed conclusion that can be harmful.

- Recurring dreams - Same or similar dreams that occur in a recurring (regular) basis. Most of the times, these are just nightmares about things we fear that we have in a regular basis. Recurring dreams, I think, are about things we are (overly) concerned with. Why else would then we have dreams about things that we aren't concerned with at all and that too repeatedly?

- Mutual dreams - Dreams where two or more people share the same (or very similar) dreams. Sometimes these are planned, sometimes not. I have also heard about people meeting and having conversations in dreams. I think most of these are, however interesting and exciting as it may seem, bunked and inaccurate claims that have no evidences in its favor.

Those regular persons that see or talk their inner Gurus claim that they seem to enter a dream within a dream. A friend if mine told me he dreams of flying to a most beautiful place often. It is the same place everytime.
Generally if we do lots of prayers, deep thoughts or meditations, we often see ourselves floating or flying. But having a vision is interesting as it looks more real than the present world. The colors and pictures are very strong and sharp and it is a beautiful feeling.

What is it called when you never have any dreams?

Dreams are just your mind playing tricks on you - don't let dreams obscure reality.

I don't put any high value on dreams, but I wonder if they have deeper meanings. Most dreams are illogical, though. Like there is no sense of rationality or logic or systematic structure involved. It's like a magical, fantastical world - but even fantasies have a more coherent structure than my dreams. Is it because the part of the brain which is important to keep logic and rational thinking in perspective is in an unconscious stage - while the other part that has to do with creativity is more dominant (assuming my understanding of the lateralization of the brain is correct)? Or am I just spouting nonsense?
